BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Spielberg and Trevorrow Looking Ahead To Next Project

Collaboration Continues With “Intelligent Life” Story by David Clark Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow , the brains behind Jurassic World, are teaming up again on a new project titled Intelligent Life. At this time details are still limited but it would appear that Spielberg and Trevorrow have developed a solid working relationship and want to carry that into a new intellectual property. What is known about the movie thus far falls within the science-fiction genre and is loosely based upon an incomplete Trevorrow project titled The Ambassador. How true the new movie will be to this earlier project is still unclear. The Ambassador was never made but the plot involved an alien first-contact specialist who falls in love with a unique woman who is not of this world. Originally planned as a sequel to his successful indie movie Safety Not Guaranteed , Intelligent Life will likely be quite a departure from Jurassic World for Spielberg and Trevorrow. Other indivi...

Paddington Sequel in the Works

We share the latest details about a potential followup. Story by Matt Cummings When the Weinstein Company decided to delay the US release of Paddington from December 2014 to January 2015, someone must have been thinking the same thing we were in our December Movie Preview : too many releases would crowd out potential dollars for Paddington. Luckily, the decision seemed to pay off, as the Paul King movie made $57m domestically and over $150m worldwide. We too at SJF loved this movie , making it one of the highest-ranking of the new year. With markets like Japan and China having yet to experience the polite bear from Darkest Peru, the movie's primary backer Studio Canal has decided there's enough interest to move ahead with a sequel. According to Variety, the company has reached out to Producer David Heyman with the intention of pursuing a follow-up. Here's a quote from Studio Canal's Chairman-CEO Oliver Courson: “We have to be selective, work with stro...

Neighbors 2 is Good to Go

The sequel gets a greenlight at Universal. For those of you who thought 2014 was a terrific year for comedies, get in line. From 22 Jump Street , to Ride Along and the underappreciated Sex Tape , last year was one of the most memorable. Of the most successful and well received was Universal's Neighbors , which starred Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne as post-party people having to deal with a fraternity lead by Zac Efron and Dave Franco. The comedy made over $150m domestically and nearly $270m worldwide. And while it was sure to get a sequel, no one knew quite when. Until today. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal has made it official with a May 13. 2016 release date and a promise that both Efforn and Byrne will return with Nicholas Stoller directing once again. The studio was apparently holding that date for another comedy but replaced it with Neighbors 2 . The move makes great financial sense, as the original only cost $18m to make, representing a huge win for...

But, would that mean Pacific Rim would somehow benefit from that fact? Apparently, the answer is Yes. Star Trek 3 Will Take Place on the 5-Year Mission

News that Star Trek 3 will be in 'deep space' gets us excited...ok, not like that. With Director J.J. Abrams far away producing the first Star Wars movie in a decade, his other project - the rebooted Star Trek franchise - has been handed over to Co-writer and Producer Roberto Orci. Simply titled Star Trek 3 at this point, it's aiming for a 2016 release date to coincide with the franchise’s 50th anniversary. With the series a financial success so far, it seems like Trek fans are ready for the actual 5-year mission which made the original so successful. So, where will the next chapter lead the crew of the starship Enterprise? Apparently, the answer came during a taping of the Bad Ass Digest podcast interview for Humans From Earth which Orci is producing along with Writer Geoff Boucher. Here's what he said: In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin ...

Guillermo del Toro Writing Pacific Rim 2

The director is collaborating with Zak Penn on a script. Before Godzilla arrived and smashed up the box office, a little film called Pacific Rim gave us tantalizing clues as just how cool a kaiju movie could be. The movie made about $190 million domestically, $411m worldwide, and enjoyed good DVD sales of just over $47m. Therefore, it seemed logical that a sequel would arrive, and now we have just such a confirmation. According to an interview given at the Austin premiere of the FX television show The Strain , Del Toro spoke about the script, saying the following: "I'm working very, very hard with Zak Penn. We've been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around. Travis Beacham [co-writer of the first film, now working on Fox's 'Hieroglyph'] was involved in the storyline and now I'm writing with Zak because Travis has become a TV mogul." You'll remember that Del Toro collaborated with Travis Beacham on...

Godzilla 2 Already in the Works

The Thunder from Way Down Under is getting a sequel. Story by: Matt Cummings With box office numbers from Friday surpassing everyone's expectations, it was a no-brainer that Godzilla would dominate the weekend box office. Since then, it's done nothing short of breaking worldwide records for 2014 ($196m) and took in an impressive $14.1m in domestic IMAX receipts. As a matter of comparison, Roland Emmerich’s 1998 version grossed $55 million in its Memorial Day opening weekend, $136 million domestically, and $379 million overall. That's not bad numbers, but fans cringed at many elements of the plot and even at Godzilla (her)self. Thankfully, the studio passed on making a sequel, even though it cost only $130m to make. And while we liked it ( read our review ), there hadn't been word from the studio whether we might see a sequel. That got answered on Sunday, when Deadline confirmed that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have approved a sequel. Accor...
