#MarvelCollectorCorps Review: December 2016

Marvel Collector Corps ends 2016 on a high note with their very good X-MEN box. Review by Matt Cummings It's been an interesting first year for Funko's Marvel Collector Corps. Having experienced a terrific opening, the subscription box service descended into chaos with its disastrous Marvel STUPOR BOX and August's less-than-awesome SPIDER-MAN. With October's DOCTOR STRANGE, we witnessed the uneven nature of what these boxes have become, displaying Funko's best and worst faces and making us wonder if our money would be better spent someplace else. As the final box of the year arrives in X-MEN, we see all the splendor of what a great box can deliver, even though we've been able to read between the lines of Funko's message. The Promise Before we begin, let's look at the original deal and MCC's current offering: promising a value of $50, regular boxes would keep the "fluff" (their words) to a minimum with Funko partnering ea...

Channing Tatum Possibly Walking Away from Gambit

Gambit may not pay off for actor. By Brandon Wolfe The Wrap has reported that Channing Tatum is planning to exit 20th Century Fox’s X-Men spin-off Gambit , which was scheduled to begin production this fall for a planned release on October 7, 2016 . No reason has been given for this sudden development, but a source claims that Tatum’s reps are still in discussions with the studio to try and rectify the situation. If Tatum does walk away from Gambit , it will be a major turnaround, as the film was something of a pet project for the actor, one he took to Comic Con earlier this month to promote. Director Rupert Wyatt will have precious little time to find a new leading man or risk the project falling apart. I guess they could always give Taylor Kitsch another spin, in the slim hopes that True Detective has taken some of the tarnish off his star. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Hugh Jackman Says "Wolverine 3" is His Last

You get only two more times to see the iconic actor in the role...maybe. Story by Matt Cummings The X-men film series has seemingly gone through its own version of the classic Phoenix storyline: critics have largely panned its poor plots, with some of the early films failing to hold up under today's Avengers standards. One thing that cannot be denied is its extremely strong casting: Ian McKellan as Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier have been excellent, some say iconic. But standing atop that list is Hugh Jackman, whose portrayal of the mutant Wolverine has made him a household name. Unfortunately, you're only going to get two more chances to see him suit up the Adamantium claws, if recent posts by the actor are to be believed. On Saturday, the 46 year old sent out this message via Instagram: WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME. Patrick Stewart Clawing His Way Into Wolverine

Original Professor X not ready to retire just yet. By Brandon Wolfe While it had initially seemed as though Fox were phasing out the old X-Men cast (save for Hugh Jackman, who will be playing Wolverine until the sun engulfs the Earth) to focus solely upon the younger First Class crew, it turns out our elderly mutants aren’t being put out to pasture just yet. Speaking to Oregon Live about his latest film Match , Patrick Stewart dropped the bombshell that plans are in the works to team his version of Professor X with everyone’s favorite scruffy, claw-handed mutant for the third Wolverine film. “What I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together,” Stewart said. “Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I’ve already done." Stewart, clearly on a face-melting tear, also stated that while he is not expected to appear in the upco...

Fox Pursuing X-Men TV Series

Marvel’s Mutants might be ready for primetime. By Brandon Wolfe It would seem that in addition to dusting off its old properties , Fox has also noticed that synergistic superhero TV shows - optimally those starring Marvel characters - are a big deal these days. So the network has put two and two together and is attempting to create an X-Men television series to work in conjunction with its eternally popular film franchise, according to TVInsider . This plan has a hitch to it, however: 20th Century Fox only holds the film rights to the mutant franchise, meaning that for the studio’s TV division to use the characters in that medium, it would require getting approval from Marvel, who is, of course, owned by Fox’s rival, Disney. But Fox is reaching across the aisle to try to make it happen all the same. "It's in negotiations," Fox Entertainment chairman Gary Newman claims. "We're cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a...

X-Men Apocalypse: Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey Cast

Read on to find out who will be playing the iconic characters. Story by David Clark The X-Men movie franchise is back and some fresh faces have been thrown into the mix. Coming up on the 8th major X-Men film release it seems the time is right to make old things new again for an eager audience. There are a few familiar names returning this time. The roles once filled by Patrick Stewart (Xavier) and Ian McKellen (Magneto) are now being played by their younger on screen counterparts James McKavoy and Erik Lensherr. In fact, recent rumors speculate that long standing stalwarts Patrick Stewart and McKellen may not be appearing in the film at all. The trend in the franchise of moving the series to a younger generation of actors continues with the latest casting decisions. First on the list of recent franchise acquisitions is that of the actress to play young Jean Grey. Those who are fans of the series and comics will remember that Jean Grey is the conflicted and volatile...

Stan Lee Receives A Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Creator Gets His Star Stan Lee , considered to have exerted more influence over the comic book industry than anyone else in history, received the 2,428th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. One-time Spider-Man writer and illustrator turned Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and Gill Champion, president and chief operating officer of POW! Entertainment , which Lee founded and serves as chairman and chief creative officer, were among those joining Lee at the ceremony in front of the Live Nation building on Hollywood Boulevard. Lee created or co-created 90 percent of Marvel Comics' characters, including Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, The Avengers, Silver Surfer and Dr. Strange . Wolverine 2 Hugh Jackman Darren Aronofsky

Wolverine 2 Will Not Be Your Regular X-Men Film Hugh Jackman spilled the beans on his Wolverine 2 ,which will begin early next year, he explained, and he’s bulking up: “Expect to see four chicken breasts and a whole pile of steamed broccoli on my plate,” he told us. "I'm starting; I’m having my six meals a day." With Darren Aronofsky directing, he says that Wolverine 2 will not be a "usual" X-Men movie: "This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one, I hope," he said, and then paused. "Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different." Also, Jackman doesn’t think that Aronofsky’s penchant for dark drama is at odds with the big-budget action franchise. "This is Wolverine. This is not Popeye. He’s kind of dark," Jackman said. "But, you know, this is a change of pace. Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, ...

Iron Fist Movie Moving Forward With xXx Writer

Iron Fist Movie Moving Forward With xXx Writer Marvel Studios is moving forward on a live action feature version of Iron Fist , hiring screenwriter Rich Wilkes to draft a movie based on a martial arts expert whose battle with a dragon--ended when he plunged his hands through the beast's molten heart--turned his fists into indestructible weapons. Iron Fist was on the minds of many fanboys when Disney paid $4 billion for Marvel's 5000 superhero library and vowed to turn the less obvious comic book heroes into films and TV properties. Marvel tried to make an Iron Fist movie with Artisan nearly a decade ago, as a vehicle for X-Men villain and martial arts expert Ray Park . The Iron Fist comic book mythology was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in the 1970s, when the popularity of martial arts films was on the rise. Iron Fist was among a bunch of Marvel superhero properties scattered around Hollywood. While tent poles like X-Men, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four and ...

Bryan Singer's Battlestar Galactica Movie In Pre-Production?

Bryan Singer's Battlestar Galactica Movie In Pre-Production The Reboot of Battlestar Galactica the series aired on the Sci-Fi Channel (it's SyFy these days) for 4 seasons (2004-2009), and was re-imagined by Ronald D. Moore and David Erick. The series won several Emmy's over the years , a Peabody Award, and TV Critics Choice award. Now it seems that director/producer Bryan Singer is teaming up with Larson to make a Battlestar Galactica movie for the big screen, ditching and dissing the fan favorite Ronald Moore version. It seems that Larson was not a big fan of the Moore reboot, and wants to develop the original version of Galactica, keeping the original premise and storyline, making it more action oriented, geared for adults. Singer had originally intended to remake the original series for the small screen back in 2000, but the director was distracted by other endeavors and the project stalled. That's when Moore took over. Now that pre-production has started, any rumor...

Bryan Singer In Talks To Return To "X-Men"

Bryan Singer In Talks To Return To "X-Men" This is good news to my ears. I thought that the last X-Men movie was a bomb with Brett Ratner directing the movie,i feel that it almost killed the franchise. Bryan Singer said Sunday he's interested in making another "X-Men" movie and has discussed the possibility with Twentieth Century Fox. The American director made "X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United," but passed on the third installment so he could make "Superman Returns.""Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner ended up shooting that film, "X-Men: The Last Stand." South African filmmaker Gavin Hood made another spin-off, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which was released earlier this year. "I'm still looking to possibly returning to the 'X-Men' franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it," Singer said he enjoyed making science fiction and fantasy movies because they allowed him to discuss seriou...
