SandwichJohnFilms Attends The THE WOLVERINE: Unleashed Extended Edition Screening & Q&A With James Mangold

Previewing THE WOLVERINE: Unleashed Extended Edition (Q&A with Director James Mangold) First I want to thank Tiffany Vogt for covering this event for SandwichJohnFilms. You can follow her on Twitter   and see her handy work over at   TV addict.com . For fans who saw the theatrical release of the film THE WOLVERINE last summer, they may wonder what the extended edition has to offer that they have not already seen. A lot apparently. The extended version offered by director James Mangold (“3:10 to Yuma”) includes two key fight/action scenes with Logan ( Hugh Jackman ), as well as scenes fleshing out Logan’s female companions, Yukio ( Rila Fukusima ) and Mariko ( Tao Okamoto ), both heroines in their own right. For THE WOLVERINE: Unleashed Extended Edition , director James Mangold had a very specific vision of Logan and the type of hero he is as the Wolverine. By adding the two extended fight sequences back into the film, it helped illustrate the tenacity and...

Hugh Jackman Teases A Third Wolverine Film

Remember, remember, November 5? That was the day the news emerged that after the success of The Wolverine - which has the second biggest box office haul of the whole X-franchise, behind X-Men: The Last Stand - director James Mangold, producer Lauren Shuler Donner and star Hugh Jackman were interested in making a third solo Wolverine movie. Now, Jackman has opened up (a little bit) about why he's back on board to Entertainment Weekly . Previously, the 45-year-old Jackman had hinted that his time as Logan wasn't going to last forever. "It’s nearing the end,” he said back in September. “I do feel that. If there are any more movies, there would have to be a really good reason for it.” Fortunately, it seems like a good reason has arrived. It’s nearing the end,” he said. “I do feel that. If there are any more movies, there would have to be a really good reason for it.” “I was on the phone with Jim Mangold last night,” Jackman told EW. “There are some really cool ideas ...

The Wolverine Review. Tries Hard To Get Our Attention, But Fails Utterly In Keeping It

The Wolverine Review By: MattInRC The Wolverine reminds us why 20th Century Fox should stop making Marvel movies. Marvel seems like an invincible studio these days. Fresh off the billion dollar successes of The Avengers and Iron Man 3 , one might assume this was always a sleeping giant just waiting to be awakened. Few will remember the reality, when in the late 90's Marvel was nearly bankrupt and in a fit of economic desperation, sold the distribution rights to several of its top characters. Pawning off X-Men and Fantastic Four to Fox, and Spider-man to Sony seemed like a way to keep the Marvel name out there, even if the comic book side died entirely. Since then, two camps of nerds have emerged to debate its merits: the comic book purists and the movie fans. None has received the backlash of groans and disdain more than 20th Century Fox, who created a great-looking series of X-Men movies, but failed to adhere to the nearly 50 years of established canon. On the way ...

New Featurette From The Wolverine " A Ronin Story"

Ahead of the release of The Wolverine , there's a new featurette explaining the film's storyline and take on the character, with special reference to his resemblance to a Japanese ronin, or masterless samurai. Take a look below for a hint of what we can expect from the movie. This story, set after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand , sees Wolverine ( Hugh Jackman ) "more isolated than you've ever seen" following the death (by Wolverine) of Jean Grey. An old friend, Yashida ( Hal Yamanouchi ) sends an envoy to find him, and offers Wolverine an end to his healing factor and endless life. But there are more dangers in Japan than his own existential angst, so things are never going to be easy for the metal-boned mutant. The Wolverine also stars Will Yun Lee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Hiroyuki Sanada, with James Mangold directing. Please Leave A Comment- Source-Empire

New The Wolverine Trailer. Extra Footage

James Mangold's take on the critically-acclaimed run of Marvel comics known as The Wolverine has been blessed with another trailer. This one's got lots more Jean Grey , a gag involving super sharp katanas, a lady with a snake tongue where her human one should be and a smidge more footage of that Silver Samurai who people keep talking about. Much of what's shown has already seen in the first full-length teaser - for a trailer breakdown, head this way - and the more recent Cinema Con video , but you get to see longer sections of certain scenes here, which allows for a better taste of what to expect from the whole film. Silver Samurai Poster From The Wolverine

If anyone can compete with Bryan Singer in terms of figuring out Twitter as a movie PR tool, it’s The Wolverine’s James Mangold. He’s been offering vids, Vines, pics and hints as to the movie’s theme and this weekend took to the social media site to premiere a rather excellent ink-styled poster for the movie’s big bad, Silver Samurai . Crafted in much the same way as the poster for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine   it’s an image of Kenuichio Harada (Will Yun Lee) who becomes a major problem for Logan in Japan. The Wolverine finds the hirsute hero traveling to the country, where he clashes with the Yashida crime family on behalf of love interest Mariko (Tao Okamoto). It's based on the classic Frank Miller/Chris Claremont comic run, and also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima, Brian Tee and Svetlana Khodchenkova. It’ll stalk into cinemas on July 26. And from the sounds of it, we’ll be seeing more from Silver Samurai soon. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Emp...

8 New Images From The Wolverine

Eight new images from The Wolverine are here thanks to EW . Viper , as you may have guessed, is the lady in green, and she's played by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy's Svetlana Khodchenkova . With a name like that, she's not going to be an all-out good 'un, and so it proves with director James Mangold describing her character as "snakelike". "She likes to play with toxins," he adds. ''Viper views Logan like a great hunter might view hunting a lion in his quarry. There's kind of an admiration, a desire to destroy and a desire to consume and to have and to hold.'' Then there's Yukio , who's altogether friendlier to Wolverine, but by no means less dangerous. Rila Fukushima plays the anime-styled character, who makes friends with The Man Formerly Known As James Howlett and forms what Mangold calls "a unique relationship". As for the plot, that's best explained by X-producer Hutch Parker, who to...

Two New Wolverine Posters

The previous The Wolverine poster that we've seen was absolutely stunning/beautiful/insert your own hyperbole here. It was a ink-based arty number, and very Japanese indeed. Take a look at it below and remind yourself of its brilliance. The latest poster, meanwhile, is less arty, but MUCH MORE ANGRY. Topless and bellowing at the world - perhaps it's cold - it's a clear indication that Logan's trip to Japan isn't going to be all karaoke and intriguing sushi adventures. Then there's yet another poster for The Wolverine , debuted on Coming Soon , which isn't quite so good. Chock-full of ninjas, it's still leaning heavily on the oriental influences, but it's not, it's fair to say, on the same level as the other two. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Empire

THE WOLVERINE Teaser Poster And Q&A With Jackman

We have the first teaser poster for the upcoming film THE WOLVERINE . As an added bonus I have the Q&A that took place today with director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman . "Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all," reveals Mangold. "Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him." Now that's intriguing. We're pretty sure that there are prequel elements to The Wolverine - our picture alone, if you know your Wolverine lore, would suggest it, while on-set pics suggest that some sequences take place in World War II. Also, recent rumours hint at a cameo from Famke Janssen as Logan's unrequited love Jean Grey, last seen being mercy-killed by Logan at the end of X-Men: The Last Stand. Watch the video after the Jump... But, according to Mangold, the bulk of the action - which takes Logan to Tokyo, where he falls for Tao Okamoto's mysterious Mariko...

First Image Of Hugh Jackman As The Wolverine

I can hear all the ladies going crazy right now. Here is the first image of Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine . So far, X-Men fans awaiting James Mangold's upcoming adaptation of The Wolverine , Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's astonishingly good 1982 limited comic series, have had to make do with dodgy pap shots and the occasional tweet from either the star or the director. Now, thanks to this brand new official still, that's all changed. Meet the new old Wolverine: fierce, furious and surprisingly veiny – but in an exceptionally toned and very muscular way, of course. class="fullpost"> Please Leave A Comment- Source- Empire

The Wolverine Is Not A Sequel To X-Men Origins

The Wolverine's got some making up to do. After X-Men Origins was panned by both fans and critics, the clawed hero needs a fresh start. And according to Hugh Jackman , he's going to get one. In a recent interview with TotalFilm , Jackman discussed the tone of next year's The Wolverine . He claims it won't be a flat-out sequel to its 2009 predecessor. Instead, it will have more of a self-contained story. "We've deliberately not called it Wolverine 2 because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture," said Jackman. "With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it's going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic." The actor realizes the property can't thrive on name recognition alone. So they've come up with fresher ideas to get fans to return. That's why they hired screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie. "He's a brilliant writer, and he came up with a concept that was just phenomenal," he exclaimed...

Jessica Biel Cast As Viper In The Wolverine

Jessica Biel has been cast as Viper in 20th Century Fox‘s The Wolverine . The Victoria/Viper character has a long arc in the X-Men mythology and is a juicy role in the film. According to Marvel lore Viper bounces between good and not so good and she holds some sway over Wolverine but is mostly a foe to the X-Men and Avengers. It will be the second Marvel project for Biel, who also starred in 2004′s Blade: Trinity. She’s next up co-starring opposite Colin Farrell in Total Recall , which Sony is releasing August 3, and Pascal Laugier’s The Tall Man, due out August 31. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Deadline
