Ra's Al Ghul Has Been Cast For The Dark Knight Rises

Josh Pence , who played opposite Armie Hammer as Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network ( where Hammer's face was superimposed on his ), has been cast as a young Ra's Al Ghul in Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan's new Batman movie. The movie's casting has been ultra-secret, although Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman are returning to lead a caped crusading cast, which includes Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard . The story line has also been kept locked up in the Batcave but Pence's casting throws more than a few crumbs to follow. Ra's Al Ghul was played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, thus paving the way for a possible return of the supposedly dead character. Also, while the studio never confirmed Cotillard's character, it has been rumored to be that of Thalia Al Ghul, the daughter of Batman's mentor-turned-enemy. Sources say Pence will appear in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the pres...

68th Golden Globe Awards Winners

They don't exactly carry the cache of the Oscars, but the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards were handed out last night in America, and there were good results for several films, including The Social Network (which took the drama screenplay, score, director and film awards) and The King’s Speech (a somewhat unsurprising drama actor win for Colin Firth). Ricky Gervais was the host for the evening, his second stint behind the podium for the Globes, and he started as he meant to go on, launching a torrent of gags about Charlie Sheen, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s recent financial scandals and various subjects that had the crowd alternately chuckling and jeering. Not sure if he’ll be invited back next year, but at least he made a stab at getting beyond the usual bland backslapping. And let’s face it – when you hire Gervais for a second time, and allow him to drink again, what do you really expect? But back to the awards themselves - it was a good night for The Kids Are ...

Pictures Of Rooney Mara In The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The first official photos of Rooney Mara ( The Social Network ) as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher‘s take on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has arrived thanks to W photo shoot. If you want to read the entire story head on over to W . “Before I read the book, I didn’t think I could do it,” Mara said. She was calling me from Zurich, where the production moved in early December. “I locked myself in a room for a week and read all three books, and decided I really wanted to be Lisbeth. But I thought I had no shot at it.” See more pictures after the Jump.. The script, which captures the novel’s bleak tone (its original Swedish title was Men Who Hate Women), was written by Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian, who wrote Schindler’s List, and it departs rather dramatically from the book. Blomkvist is less promiscuous, Salander is more aggressive, and, most notably, the ending—the resolution of the drama—has been completely changed. This may be sacrilege to some, but Zaillian h...

Mark Zuckerberg Reacts To The Social Network

'The Social Network' Got His Clothing Exactly Right So what does the founder of Facebook think of the film The Social Network . He has been pretty silent about the film and the accuracy of the film.  But he is finally speaking about about the movie. Zuckerberg admitted to an audience at a start-up conference that he did, in fact, check out the David Fincher film. How did he feel about a movie that will forever paint him as a woman-hating, status-obsessed creep? Kinda charitable, actually! Mark Zuckerberg says 'The Social Network' got his clothing exactly right Read the story after the Jump.. Zuckerberg is asked about the film's accuracy: "I mean, where do you want to start? I don't know. It's interesting what stuff they focused on getting right; like, every single shirt and fleece that I had in that movie is actually a shirt or fleece that I own. So there's all this stuff that they got wrong and a bunch of random details that they got r...

Social Network Still #1 At The Box Office

Social Network Still #1 At The Box Office The enormous drawing power of Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel and a crapping baby couldn’t best the seething cauldron of ambition and computer programming at the core of The Social Network , as David Fincher’s latest edged out a win to top the US box office charts for a second week in a row with $15.5 million across the weekend. The Duhamel/Heigl comedy Life as We Know It still managed to survive some very mixed reviews to take second place, scoring $14.6 million. That meant Disney’s true-life horse drama Secretariat had to make do with third place, though we doubt it’ll be off to the glue factory just yet, with a decent if unspectacular $12.6 million. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole saw its wings clipped very slightly, slipping down from second to fourth, but it still added $7 million to its running total, which now stands at $39.4 million. The top five was rounded out by the week’s worst reviewed film, as Wes Craven’s My ...

"The Social Network" Tops The Box Office

"The Social Network" Tops The Box Office A curious box-office creature, Sony's " The Social Network " appears more tortoise than hare. The David Fincher-helmed drama about the creation of Facebook posted an estimated $23 million to top the domestic box office during the weekend. Yet the "Social" launch fell in the lower end of projections, despite showing broad demographic bandwidth. Prerelease interest in the PG-13 pic was keenest among younger males, even though dramas tend to play older. But as things turned out, opening audiences for "Social" were comprised 53% of females, with 55% of patrons aged 25 or older. The older-skewing profile could be good news for the film's longer-term prospects. Such pics often show sturdy legs, and dramas also tend to stretch grosses over a longer play period. "It's playing very broadly, and this is a terrific start," Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said. "This is a mov...

Justin Timberlake & Jimmy Fallon Give You A History Lesson On Rap

Justin Timberlake &  Jimmy Fallon Give You A History Lesson On Rap Justin Timberlake was plugging his new movie " The Social Network " on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" last night, the singer obliged fans with an all-too-brief return to the microphone -- to run through 15 hip-hop classics in a hilarious duet with Fallon. Watch the video after the Jump.. What was clearly a cleverly planned and carefully rehearsed medley began with a seemingly spontaneous chat about "Late Night" house band the Roots . Fallon asked Timberlake if he'd grown up with hip-hop, and talk turned to legendary late-'70s crew the Sugarhill Gang . Moments later, the two were out of their seats, microphones in hand, rhyming along to the group's sing-songy classic " Rapper's Delight ." With drummer ?uestlove and the Roots providing the backbeat, the pair then ran through brief verses from over a dozen more memorable hits, including the Beastie Boys...

Andrew Garfield Spider-Man Reboot

Andrew Garfield Gives Very Little Information On The Upcoming Spider-Man Reboot With the Spider-Man reboot to begin filming in December of this year. Andrew Garfield has been pretty silent so far about his biggest movie role to date. But now with two films to be released soon " Never Let Me Go " and " The Social Network " I am sure every question at these press junkets will have to do with the Spider-Man reboot. THR got their hands on him first and asked a few interesting questions. Have you been prepping for Spider-Man? I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?" [laughs] “Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks...” So my seven-ye...

Rooney Mara Lands The Lead Role In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

Rooney Mara Lands The Lead Role In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Ending one of the most drawn out and closely watched casting searches for an actress in years, Sony Pictures Entertainment and director David Fincher have chosen Rooney Mara to play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo , the film that begins shooting this fall in Sweden, with Daniel Craig starring. The film will be released December 21, 2011. Rooney was considered Fincher's first choice in the process: the director had just helmed her in The Social Network . Closing a deal will amount to a formality, because Mara essentially agreed to terms when she and other young actresses signed on to tests that Fincher and producer Scott Rudin have conducted over the past several weeks. Her deal includes an option for two sequels that will cover The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest , the second and third books in the Millennium Trilogy by the late author ...
