Dark Matter Premieres On SyFy

Creator Joseph Mallozzi Shares A Few Last Minute Thoughts. Story by David Clark For those who do not know, the SyFy channel has made a commitment on going back to the stars. The days of Firefly , Star Trek , Stargate , and Battlestar Galactica seem like a distant memory and SyFy has decided the space epic drought has gone on long enough. Dark Matter, premiering Friday June 12th at 10/9c is the first of many shows SyFy has planned. Written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie as an adaptation of their limited run Dark Matter comic book, Dark Matter is their 10 year vision brought to life. Most well known for their years writing and producing the Stargate universe, Mallozzi and Mullie had no idea how long the wait would be for Dark Matter to finally take a place on television programming. Revealed in an exclusive interview with Blastr, their original plan was to transition straight from Stargate into Dark Matter. Quickly they learned pitching a new and unknown int...

TV Review: Z Nation “Puppies & Kittens” (Pilot)

TV Review: Z Nation “Puppies & Kittens” (Pilot) By: Brandon Wolfe Given ‘ The Walking Dead’s ’ present status as the most popular series in all of television, it was bound to spawn some imitators sooner or later. The only surprise is that it’s taken this long for a true rip-off to emerge. ‘ Z Nation ’ is the SyFy Channel’s spare-every-expense answer to the AMC phenomenon. Spearheaded by The Asylum, the brain-trust behind the ‘Sharknado’ films, ‘Z Nation’ also centers around a world plunged into a zombie apocalypse and the survivors struggling to get by. ‘The Walking Dead’ has a lot of problems as a series, many critical and seemingly in no great hurry to be resolved. After sampling ‘Z Nation,’ these problems maybe don’t seem so bad. The ways in which ‘Z Nation’ is similar to ‘The Walking Dead’ are so myriad that it will be easier to delve into the handful of ways in which the two shows differ. The greatest difference is that ‘Z Nation’ plugs us into the grander schem...

Battlestar Galactica Movie Gets New Life

The project at Universal is apparently moving forward.  By: Matt Cummings If you caught the SyFy run of Battlestar Galactica , you were treated to something special. Complete with graying loyalties and intense action, the series followed a race of humans defeated by the technologically superior Cylons. The series brought a grittiness and unpredictability that kept fans watching right up to the lame series finale in 2007. Apparently, someone took notice. According to multiple sources, Universal is developing a film reboot of the series, and have hired Transcendence writer Jack Paglen to script the screenplay. Paglen is also involved in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel for Fox that starts production this fall.  Transcendence  starring Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall opens on April 18th. Original Galactica creator Glen Larson will produce the reboot. While we're happy to see this happening in concept, we'll wait to hear about a director and cast before we rend...
