BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Elizabeth Banks Will Direct Pitch Perfect 3

Following the success of helming “ Pitch Perfect 2 ,” Elizabeth Banks is set to return as the director of the next installment in the Universal and Gold Circle Entertainment musical-comedy, sources tell Variety . Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson have already closed deals to return, with Kay Cannon on board to pen the script. The studio recently dated the film to bow on Aug. 4, 2017, but at the time Banks was weighing other projects to direct and hadn’t committed to return. The multi-hyphenate is currently attached to helm Uni’s “Red Queen” adaptation and Sony’s “Charlie’s Angels” reboot, but both films are still in development. The 2012 original grossed $113 million worldwide, while “Pitch Perfect 2″ has more than doubled that, grossing $286 million worldwide to date on a $29 million budget. The original film was adapted from Mickey Rapkin’s book “Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory.” Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Banks and...

Pitch Perfect 3 On It's Way

THR is reporting there will be more, dear pitches, but it won't be cheap. With Pitch Perfect 2 's massive $160.9 million in domestic box office (and counting), Universal and Gold Circle are moving ahead on a third installment. Sources say negotiations have begun with Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies, to return for a third. It remains to be seen whether co-star Elizabeth Banks, a steward of the franchise as one of its producers, will return to the director's chair. How a story would reunite the core Barden Bellas now that (spoiler alert) most have graduated college will be easier than making deals for such stars as Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, who sources say were paid about $2 million each for Pitch 2, which cost $29 million to make. That's a step up from their fees for the original 2012 film, which were in the low-six figures for Kendrick and less than $100,000 for Wilson, whose Fat Amy became the breakout. Deals for a third movie will be costly be...

(UPDATE) 'Tomorrowland' & 'Pitch Perfect 2' in (Not-Really) Dead Heat B.O. Shocker

Age of Ultron to pass $400 million domestically. Note: this is an update to our Saturday story. Story by Matt Cummings No matter how you slice it, this weekend's box office race was more of a dud than an amazing stratospheric accomplishment, with Tomorrowland winning, Pitch Perfect 2 at #2, and Age of Ultron set to cross $400 million domestically. So, why all then negative feelings? First the numbers: with the three-day weekend officially in the books, Tomorrowland took in paltry $32.9m/$41m while owning most of the IMAX screens, which was slightly higher than its projections. It eeked out a win against Pitch Perfect 2 , which crossed the $100m mark on Saturday, all but guaranteeing a sequel (oh, no please don't) with $38.5m. George Miller's dystopian spectacle Mad Max: Fury Road , took in a higher number as well, gassing up to $32.1m for the weekend. Those numbers are impressive, considering the relatively small potential audience; numbers like that m...

This week's episode of Inside the Bucket is online! Revel in the digital mastery! On this Memorial Day weekend edition of I nside the Bucket , Matt is joined by television writers Sue, David, and Brandon who basically don't respect Matt and his rather Machiavellian recording rules. Beginning with news, the trio discusses Simon Pegg's quote about Star Trek being "too Trek-y" as well Cinematographer Roger Deakens joining Blade Runner 2 . They delve into the frankly awful selection of Blu-rays being released this week and then break down an interesting box office weekend. Please check out these and many other stories which we've included below. After several drinks and a quick nap, they go into Rants and Raves, where they bitch and complain about all the things they're ...

'Tomorrowland' & 'Pitch Perfect 2' in Dead Heat B.O. Shocker

Age of Ultron set to pass $400 million domestically. Story by Matt Cummings No matter how you slice it, this weekend's box office race is gearing up to be a close one, with Tomorrowland and Pitch Perfect 2 in a close race for #1. With the three-day weekend officially casting off on Friday, Tomorrowland took in approximately $10.4 million, owning most of the IMAX screens - it should take in an estimated $33-35m for the weekend. However, that might not be enough to win it the top spot: that one might go to Pitch Perfect 2 . On Friday, the comedy-melody mashup took in approximately $10m, which should plpay out to a 3-day tally of $33-34m. It will also pass the $100m mark on Saturday, after only dropping 52% weekend-to-weekend. Coming in at number three is the George Miller dystopian spectacle Mad Max: Fury Road , dropping only 39%, which should see profit between $26-28m for the weekend. Those numbers are impressive, considering the relatively small potential ...

Movie Review: 'Pitch Perfect 2'

Read on to learn if the sequel recaptures the magic of the original. Review by Sue Lukenbaugh The Pitches are back, and while the Bellas prove they've still got swagger, they lack the spark that made us really love them in the first place. The Barden Bellas have been ruling the world of collegiate a cappella since we last saw them, but with that success and the lack of Aubrey's stringent leadership the girls have gotten sloppy. They've lost their identity and can't get through a performance without some sort of catastrophe. Just as in the first one, the Bellas have to come together to after a very embarrassing display. Instead of projectile vomit, its muffgate at the Kennedy Center in front of the POTUS and FLOTUS. The girls not only get their victory tour taken from them after the snafu, but in order for the Bellas to redeem themselves and not be disbanded forever after their current season they have to win the World Championship in Copenhagen. The Chief comp...

'Mad Max,' 'Pitch Perfect' To Unseat 'Ultron' This Weekend

Read on to learn why this weekend isn't all bad for Marvel. Story by Matt Cummings With Avengers: Age of Ultron passing $1 billion internationally this week, the film has been a massive success, and should eclipse Furious 7 as the top domestic film of 2015 by the end of this weekend. Still, the latest superhero team-up hasn't fared nearly as well as its 2012 predecessor: as of this posting (10 days since its North American release), it's off nearly $70 million. That's a lot, and it's soon about to be deposed from its two-week throne as Universal’s sequel Pitch Perfect 2 and Warner Brothers' Mad Max: Fury Road arrive. Each of these releases is looking to take in as much as $50 million each, which should easily overthrow Ultron . Based on early Friday estimates from both Variety and BoxOfficeMojo, the Rebel Wilson/Anna Kendrick musical comedy is drawing solid numbers, with a very good $20-$22m, which could see it finish the weekend between $48...
