James Gunn To Write & Possibly Direct Suicide Squad Sequel

Gunn , who was fired from directing the third installment in his Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, has come on board to write Warner Bros. and DC's Suicide Squad sequel, with an eye to helm. Gunn has closed a deal to pen the script and possibly direct the film. Disney fired Gunn from his Marvel franchise in July after old tweets from 2008 and 2009 resurfaced in which he made insensitive and controversial jokes about topics like rape and pedophillia. After his firing, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and other Guardians stars signed an open letter asking Disney to reinstate Gunn, while fans started a Change.org petition asking the studio to do the same. But Disney has remained steadfast in its decision. “The James Gunn decision was brought to me as a unanimous decision of a variety of executives at the studio and I supported it,” Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger recently said to The Hollywood Reporter of Gunn’s firing. He added: “I haven't second-guessed their decision.” Warne...

Miller, who's helmed action thrillers such as Marauders and Extraction, is directing the project, which will now be a China-U.S. co-production via Beijing-based Leomus Pictures and Emmett/Furla/Oasis. In the 2013 movie, Stallone, playing a prison-security specialist who finds himself in a near-impenetrable facility, partnered up with his 1980s action rival Arnold Schwarzenegger. Plot details are being kept in solitary confinement. The $20 million production is tunneling for a spring start in Atlanta. All Superhero Movies to 2020 (UPDATED...AGAIN)

Guess what happens when we say, "We have the final, final, final version of the list." Story by Matt Cummings Marvel shocked the world (again) this week with the announcement that Ant-Man was getting a sequel, and that the studio had added three more films to its release schedule. We knew our original story back in April couldn't hold, but that's our dumb luck assuming we know the inner mind of the Marvel machine. The The Kree Supreme Intelligence has got nothing on Marvel Studios! Anyways, we've had some time to digest everything and thought it was time to re-re-re-update the master list of DC/Marvel films through 2020. The changes ain't pretty, and there's some interesting suggestions embedded within. Read our thoughts after checking out the list: 2016 February 12: Deadpool (Fox) March 25: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice May 6: Captain America: Civil War May 27: X-Men: Apocalypse (Fox) August 5: Suicide Squad October 7: G...

#BoxOffice Report: August 2015 Sets New Highs for Lows

The worst August in 21 years is fortunately put out of its misery. Story by Matt Cummings 2015 might become the biggest box office draw ever, but August will go down as one of the all-time worst. Theater owners saw empty lines for popcorn and even more depressing receipts last month, as the industry experienced a perfect storm of unprecedented flops, poorly-timed releases, and a lackluster set of films that kept audiences away in droves. The problem actually began in July, which included the under-appreciated ( Southpaw and Self/Less ), the dull ( Paper Towns ), and the just plain awful ( Vacation ). This set the stage for three nearly-instant August duds, The Fantastic Four , Ricki and the Flash , and The Man from UNCLE , before delving into two of the worst weekends of the year. In fact, August 2015 has achieved a set of records that theater owners and Hollywood fat cats would just as soon forget. Here are just a few: August 2015 was the worst since August 1994...

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Is Your Title To Guardians Of The Galaxy Sequel

Director James Gunn himself has revealed, via Facebook , that the title of this 2nd installment is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 and he credited Marvel’s head honcho, Kevin Feige for spoiling the surprise.. “Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ,” … “Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I’m really happy about because God knows I’ve let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page. Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ – I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait.” GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 arrives May 5, 2017 Please Leave A Comment-

All Superhero Movies to 2020

We have the final, final, final version of the list. Story by Matt Cummings With the sudden announcement of the Sony/Marvel Spider-man deal back in February , the entire Marvel calendar was upended, pushing titles back and others out of the way. We wrote about this back when the news broke , but it's clear that the situation hadn't exactly settled. The addition of 2016's Gambit hadn't yet been figured out, which caused yet another wave of bloggers to hit the UPDATE button on their old stories. But it doesn't end there. Other news - such as the lackluster performance of The Amazing Spider-man 2 which forced Sony to seek out a co-partner in Marvel in the first place - also changed Sony's plans regarding Drew Goddard's Sinister Six , effectively ending its development for the time being. Not one to be left out, the all-new DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe) is also vying for our hearts (and wallets), and with news on that front happening nearly ev...

Chris Pratt Eyed for Indiana Jones

Star-Lord possibly taking over the whip. By Brandon Wolfe In his continuing bid to take over Hollywood, if not the world, Deadline reports that Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is being groomed by Disney to take over the Indiana Jones franchise in the future. Pratt would inherit the role of the iconic archaeologist from Harrison Ford, though Deadline urges that it’s still very early in the planning stages. Disney has yet to comment on the rumor, but after his starmaking turn in Guardians , Pratt is on fire. Next up for the actor is June’s Jurassic World , another Spielberg franchise he’s taken over, then The Magnificent Seven remake with Denzel Washington and, of course, Guardians 2 . Pratt taking over Harrison Ford’s signature role seems fitting since he’s on track to become this generation’s Harrison Ford anyway. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . 2014 Box Office Wrap Up: Highs and Too Many Lows

We reflect at some of the biggest box office developments from 2014 and theorize how they might affect 2015. Story by Matt Cummings With all the movie highs ( Captain America: The Winter Solider , Guardians of the Galaxy , and Mockingjay, Part 1 ), there were a lot of lows to report, beginning with the bottom line: numbers. According to our friends at BoxOficeMojo.com, the 2014 domestic box office was down 5.3% from 2013, taking in $10.347 billion. It's also the lowest number for the past 5 years, with 2011 being the only competitor at $10.174 billion. But the misery doesn't end there. July totaled a paltry $966 million, which is down 30 percent from last July and marked the first time since 2002 in which a July fell short of selling $1 billion in tickets. But 2014 also failed to boast a $400m film, something that hasn't happened since 2011. Numbers like these can get confusing for films released in November, with their totals seemingly divided between 2...
