Edge Of Tomorrow Sequel In The Works

That a sequel to Edge Of Tomorrow (or as it ended up named for some home entertainment releases, Live Die Repeat: Edge Of Tomorrow ) is in development is hardly news, as we've known that director Doug Liman has been trying to crack the concept for a while. Now, though, Deadline brings word that Warner Bros. is giving someone else a crack at the script, as The Invention Of Lying's Matthew Robinson is on board. The first film found Tom Cruise as combat-allergic public relations officer disgraced and thrown into battle against alien forces by his commanding officers. He finds himself trapped in a time loop, dying in various ways until he meets tough special forces soldier Emily Blun t, and learns how to fight. Putting knowledge from his repetitive deaths into practice, he hatches a plan to defeat the extraterrestrials. Right now, Cruise and Blunt are holding off on signing official deals to return until they and Liman are all happy with the script and we'd be shocked –...

Movie Review: #AmericanMade

Tom Cruise is at his best in American Made . And he never throws a punch. Review by Matt Cummings If many elements behind the biopic American Made feel way too familiar (title cards at the end, news footage, doctored photos showing our hero rubbing elbows), you might also find yourself doing the unthinkable: forgiving Director Doug Liman and Actor Tom Cruise. This is easily one of the best biopic films of the year, fueled by an all-out performance by Cruise, bolstered by a highly stylized feel, and filled with just enough levity to offset what soon becomes a very nasty and gripping affair. Starting in the late 1970's, American Made follows the story of former TWA pilot Barry Seal (Tom Cruise) who decides the drudgery of commercial airlines is less appealing that he imagined, especially when he's courted by the CIA agent Schafer (Domhnall Gleeson) to take low-flying pictures of South American drug lords. Initially very successful, Seal is also recruited by the u...

#AmericanMade Trailer Starring Tom Cruise

In Universal Pictures’ American Made , Tom Cruise reunites with his Edge of Tomorrow director, Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), in this international escapade based on the outrageous (and real) exploits of a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history. Based on a true story, American Made co-stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, E. Roger Mitchell, Jesse Plemons, Lola Kirke, Alejandro Edda, Benito Martinez, Caleb Landry Jones and Jayma Mays . The film is produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Academy Award®-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind), Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver (Black Swan) and Tyler Thompson (Everest), Quadrant Pictures’ Doug Davison (The Departed), and Kim Roth (Inside Man). Gary Spinelli wrote the screenplay. Please Leave A Comment-

Movie Review: #TheWallMovie The Film Is Gripping & Intense

An effective thriller Rama is back. The best way to describe “ The Wall ” is that it reminds us of 2002’s “ Phone Booth ” starring Colin Farrell and 2010’s “ Buried ” starring Ryan Reynolds . All of these movies are essentially stories of a predator toying with their food or prey. Our flawed protagonist pinned down while a highly skilled murderer speaks from the other end of the phone line messing with his head. It’s like a mind game between Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling all over again. “ The Wall ” is gripping and intense. Directed by Doug Liman, “The Wall” stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and WWE star John Cena as two soldiers investigating the deaths of pipeline contractors when all of a sudden they become sitting targets of a lethally accurate sniper. Dwain Worrell wrote the script which made it to the black list (great unproduced screenplays) and I can understand why because Worrell pretty much has come up with a story that’s quite nail-biting. And the fact that the sni...

“ The Wall ” is a deadly psychological thriller that follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. Their fight becomes as much a battle of will and wits as it is of lethally accurate marksmanship. Directed by Doug Liman ("Mr. & Mrs. Smith," “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “Edge of Tomorrow”), “The Wall” stars Aaron Taylor Johnson (“Nocturnal Animals,” “Kick-Ass,” “Savages” “Godzilla,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”) and WWE star John Cena (“Trainwreck,” “Sisters,” “Daddy’s Home”) And is written by first-time screenwriter Dwain Worrell from his Black List script. “The Wall" is produced by Amazon Studios. Tom Holland Joins Daisy Ridley In Chaos Walking

THR is reporting Doug Liman is on board to direct the YA post-apocalyptic thriller. Tom Holland , who is playing Spider-Man in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming , is in negotiations to join Daisy Ridley in Lionsgate’s post-apocalyptic thriller Chaos Walking . Doug Liman is directing the project, an adaptation of the best-selling YA novel by Patrick Ness. The story takes place in a world where all women have been killed by a germ and all living creatures can hear one another's thoughts in a stream of images, words and sounds called Noise. Holland would star as a boy forced to flee his town with his loyal dog and who comes upon a strange sight: a girl (Ridley). Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) worked on the script, as did Jamie Linden (Money Monster). Doug Davison, who produced the Liman-directed Tom Cruise starrer Mena, is producing alongside Allison Shearmur (Rogue One, Cinderella). Holland made his feature debut...

Official Trailer For Justice League Dark

Dark Universe, exploring the supernatural side of DC Comics, is in development as a feature by director Doug Liman , but fans will get their first look at some of its potential team members with the animated film Justice League Dark , being released on Blu-ray and for digital download in early 2017. And which just happens to be the recipient of a new trailer. Over the course of the film, Batman (voiced by Jason O’Mara ) is drawn into the world of the occult by Deadman ( Nicholas Turturro ), which in turn leads him to the likes of Jason Blood/Etrigan ( Ray Chase ), Felix Faust ( Enrico Colantoni ), Zatanna ( Camilla Luddington ), Destiny ( Alfred Molina ) and John Constantine ( Matt Ryan , reprising his role from the live action Constantine series). Director Jay Oliva, who also directed the two-part animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, feels that the strength of Justice League Dark is that they’re dealing with a different kind of team than fans might be used to, part...

Channing Tatum's Gambit Film Delayed

With so many superhero movies due in the next couple of years, it is inevitable that some release dates will change. Often this is to avoid clashes with rival studios, but occasionally it is simply because the films won't be finished in time. This now seems to be the case with the Channing Tatum -starring Gambit . The X-Men spinoff was originally scheduled for an October 7, 2016 release, which would make it the third of three X-Men movies that Fox were releasing next year. However, producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that Gambit won't even start shooting until next spring, making a 2016 release impossible. In an interview with Collider, Kinberg discussed the search for a new director, who has since been identified as Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman . "We have a director in and I don’t know if I’m allowed to say who it is yet because his deal isn’t done, but it’s somebody we’re excited about, and somebody I adore, and hopefully we can make an announcement soon abou...

#Gambit Dropped From It's Original Release Date

With thudding inevitability, Fox's release-date reshuffle has seen X-Men spin-off Gambit pulled from its original release date of October this year. A new slot for the Channing Tatum -fronted superhero vehicle hasn't yet been announced. This is not necessarily bad news for the film; in fact it's eminently sensible. With original director Rupert Wyatt departing the project last September, and his replacement Doug Liman only coming aboard in November, October 2016 was never looking realistic. It turns out that 11-month turnaround really was too tight. Gambit now has time to come together properly, and with Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse both out this year, we're hardly deprived of X-Men to tide us over. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner remain producers on Gambit, which Tatum has been chasing for some years. Josh Zetumer wrote the screenplay, based on a treatment from comic book stalwart Chris Claremont. It's planned as a stand-alone film which, in Tatum’...

Inside the Bucket Podcast #79

This week's episode of Inside the Bucket is online! Revel in the digital mastery! After a couple of weeks off (due to more crappy movies), Inside the Bucket returns with something to say! Join Matt and Brandon as they bring you this week's juiciest movie and television news and reviews from our website SANDWICHJOHNFILMS.COM . Per the SOP in the SJF Manual, the show begins with all the style of a bull and full of greasy attitude, as they discuss this week's hottest TV and movie news. They also discuss a new director for Gambit , early reviews for SPECTRE , and the upcoming Netflix series Jessica Jones . They also discuss this week's box office, explaining that Matt Damon has become a national imperative, as well as those movies hi...

Should 'Mission: Impossible 6' Get a New Director?

We explain why this might be a good idea, and dole out some possible candidates. Story by Matt Cummings Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is well on its way to box office success, enjoying one of the highest critic reviews of the summer at 93% (via Rotten Tomatoes). The news of its second weekend at number one is perhaps a clearer indication of its staying power over newer competition: moviegoers love Mission: Impossible . Therefore, it was with a feeling of certainty that Paramount last week announced that plans for Part 6 are already underway . Under normal circumstances, it would be likely that everyone associated with a past hit be retained in order to guarantee that another hit happens. However, in the case of this franchise, it might not be necessary. Part of M:I 's continued success lies in seeing a new director each time take the reins to make their own distinction, something current director Christopher McQuarrie acknowledges in recent interviews. Nothi...

Tom Cruise & Doug Liman Re-team For Mena

Universal pounced on Gary Spinelli’s based-on-truth drug pilot spec script Mena last year, throwing down a million dollars to secure the rights. Ron Howard briefly considered making it, but now Edge Of Tomorrow star and his director, Doug Liman , are in talks to take over instead. The title refers to Mena , Arkansas, the site of much of the action in the extraordinary life of Barry Seal, the focus of the film. Seal was a pilot for TWA in the 1970s who lost his job when he was caught flying plastic explosives from Miami to Mexico for an anti-Castro group. He subsequently went solo as an aviation consultant, and began a lucrative second career smuggling cannabis and cocaine between South and North America, eventually getting entangled with the notorious Colombian Medellin Cartel. When he was caught, he made deals with the CIA and DEA to continue his activities as an informant and spy. His adventures saw him encounter infamous names like Pablo Escobar and Jorge Luis Ochoa Vasquez...

Spoiler: Edge Of Tomorrow Alternate Ending Revealed

Doug Liman‘s Edge of Tomorrow is easily one of the most beloved films of the year. It’s a hit with critics and has garnered passionate reactions from its fans. The only problem people seem to have is with its ending. Before we go any further: beware of spoilers if you haven’t seen Edge of Tomorrow yet. If you haven’t, shame on you. The movie is so different, fresh and original that, to some people, ending on a familiar/happy note doesn’t gel with its riskier choices. Would it have been more badass if Major Bill Cage ( Tom Cruise ) had died to save the world? Of course he does sacrifice himself repeatedly, but what if he had stayed dead? The problem is that a downer ending isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time. But crowd-pleasing commerce isn’t why the film ended the way that it did. Genre demand is why. filmschoolrejects spoke with screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie , who explained the original script for Edge of Tomorrow was tonally much darker. Cruise stressed the import...

Edge of Tomorrow Review: Killer Déjà Vu is Great Until the End

Edge of Tomorrow is a great time travel epic that stumbles at the end. Along with cancer survivalists, the newest fad in movies and television these days is the time travel plot. But in their efforts to either ret-con older broken tales or use it as vehicle for the story, they've become way too complex for their own good. Filled with either unresolved plot holes ( X-Men: Days of Future Past ) or offering nothing of value in the larger scheme of the picture ( About Time ), directors are leaving audiences distinctly confused as they emerge from theaters. Such is the case with Edge of Tomorrow , an enjoyable f/x epic that falters in the very final scene. In a war-torn future where an alien invasion has destroyed most of Europe, Army PR Officer Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is swept up into the conflict after his demotion and arrest. With little military training, Cage soon finds himself on a battlefield in which no human will survive. But his early fall in the battle unleashes an...
