BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Third Planet of the Apes Gets a Title

The ape planet goes to war. By Brandon Wolfe The third installment in Fox’s updated Planet of the Apes series has been given a title : War of the Planet of the Apes . Not anything too surprising, yet still fitting. Still, it's a bit awkward (maybe War FOR the Planet of the Apes might be better?), but this series, while great in every other way, has always contended with clunky titles (overuse of “of the”; “Rise” and “Dawn” meaning the same thing). Why should this one be any different? War of the Planet of the Apes , which will again be directed by Dawn ’s Matt Reeves, is set to open July 14, 2017. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Review: Solid Follow-up, But...

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is good enough, but... WARNING: Major spoilers ahead. In 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes lovingly and powerfully reinvigorated this franchise by focusing on the mistakes humanity would ultimately pay for their arrogance. Unlike many dystopian dramas, it made character development more important than the CGI world around it. And while the follow up makes great beauty in its digital imagining of a world gone mad, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes fails in telling its human story. Set 10 years after the simian outbreak, humans are on the edge of extinction, huddled together in San Francisco with the remaining resources of its once powerful technology. On the other hand, apes are getting along quite nicely thank you, as Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his village are living an idyllic life deep inside the Muir Woods. But soon that peaceful existence is threatened as humans stumble upon their tribe looking to restore power to a generator in the...

July 2014 Movies on Our Radar

Horror and Science Fiction dominate a busy July. From a release perspective, June 2014 was an odd month in terms of releases. What started with exceptional dare (Edge of Tomorrow) became mostly flled with the blah (Jersey Boys) and the boisterously long (Transformers: Age of Extinction). WIll July get us back on track? Fans of Science Fiction and Horror have some promising fare, even if they don't deliver on a strictly monetary value. The schedule features possession, an angry ape, an entire angry murderous people, and a woman who's about to get a huge upgrade. Deliver Us From Evil (July 2nd) Plot: NY police officer Ralph Sarchie investigates a series of crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest, schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the possessions that are terrorizing their city. Director: Scott Derrickson Starring: Eric Bana Why We're Interested: While we're not really impressed with the “based on a true story” subtitle, we...
