#Baywatch Tanks At The Box Office

It was smooth sailing to the top spot at the box office for " Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales ," but the waters were choppier for the Dwayne Johnson comedy " Baywatch ." Studio estimates on Sunday say the fifth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise commandeered $62.2 million in its first three days in theaters. The Johnny Depp-starrer is projected to take in $76.6 million over the four-day holiday weekend. It was the second-lowest domestic opening for the nearly $4 billion franchise, but the latest film, which cost a reported $230 million to produce, has massive international appeal. Its four-day global total is expected to hit $300 million. Having the majority of profits come from international receipts is not worrying Walt Disney Studios. "This is a trend that we've seen play out over the course of these films," said Dave Hollis, executive vice president of distribution for Disney. "...

Movie Review: #AlienCovenant Time to scream in space again!

Time to scream in space again! Rama delivers us another review. Finally, after the incredibly boring “ Prometheus ,” Ridley Scott gave us Alien Covenant which reminds us exactly why we sci-fi horror fans have always loved this franchise. This is not only a return to form, this movie will scare you to your core. Undeniably terrifying. Katherine Waterston ’s character Daniels may not be completely equal to Sigourney Weaver ’s iconic character Ripley but Daniels is badass in her own right. Scripted by John Logan and Dante Harper with story by Jack Paglen and Michael Green and directed by the man who helmed the first original “Alien” film, “Alien: Covenant” is essentially a sequel to “Prometheus.” You get to see what happens to Elizabeth Shaw and David, while at the same time there’s a crew of a colony ship arriving on a remote planet that they think is an uncharted paradise but the reality is far more sinister. They then must fight their way to escape the ever present threat. A c...

Alien: Covenant Poster & New Release Date

The first thing you notice about the Alien: Covenant poster that has just been put online via 20th Century Fox's Twitter feed is the slavering jaws of a xenomorph (or whatever version exists in the film). And then you might also notice that the image indicates a change for the film - it'll arrive in May next year, instead of August. Alien: Covenant finds director Ridley Scott heading back to the Alien universe after Prometheus, and following a colony ship called the Covenant headed for a remote planet, a place that the crew initially thinks is an uncharted paradise but turns out to be dark and full of terrors. And the only inhabitant is synthetic life form David ( Michael Fassbender ), who claims to be the lone survivor of the Prometheus mission. Katherine Waterston, Demián Bichir, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride make up the ship's crew, and it appears we'll catch up with Noomi Rapace 's Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. Plus...

First Image From Alien: Covenant

Though we'd have thought that yesterday's Alien Day social media and marketing blitz might have been the best day to launch a new image from Ridley Scott's next trip into the Alien universe, we suppose it makes sense to steer clear of the chatter. Much as with Star Trek Beyond's initial peek, it's a picture of a ship's patch, in this case the titular craft. And look! The angels from the Ark of the Covenant. Fitting, but as Indiana Jones can tell you, associating with that particular relic might not end well... According to the basic synopsis of the film, the story finds the colony ship Covenant headed for a remote planet, a place that the crew initially thinks is an uncharted paradise but turns out to be dark and full of terrors. And the only inhabitant is synthetic life form David ( Michael Fassbender ), who claims to be the lone survivor of the Prometheus mission. Scott, working this time from a script by Michael Green and Jack Paglen, has Katherine W...

Danny McBride Joins Alien: Covenant

Many people complained about characters in Prometheus behaving stupidly, but it seems we ain't seen nothing yet. Danny McBride , star of Eastbound And Down and an integral part of the Rogen-Franco-Goldberg stoner comedy fraternity, is in early talks for a starring role in Alien: Covenant . If it happens he'll join the returning Michael Fassbender and new lead Katherine Waterston . But not Noomi Rapace . There are no details at all so far about the role McBride would play, but the situation has apparently come about through director Ridley Scott and McBride bonding over their mutual love of film. It's easy to make the obvious cracks about the hapless egocentric drug-addled sweary slacker pratfalling that McBride might bring to the Alien universe. But this could also be his opportunity to display a significant broadening of his range, in something like the way his fellow Rogenite Jonah Hill has done recently in Moneyball and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Whatever the cha...

#KatherineWaterston Scores Lead Role In Alien: Covenant

According to Empire   Alien: Covenant contained the surprising intel that, while Noomi Rapace is set to show up again as plucky scientist Elizabeth Shaw, she'll only get a "minor part" this time, rather than the starring role. That's now backed up by the news that Katherine Waterston has been cast in what sounds like the lead. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation's Rebecca Ferguson had previously been linked to the character - possibly named "Daniels" - but Waterston is now locked in. She'll also be in next year's Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, and this year appeared with Joaquin Pheonix in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice and with Michael Fassbender in Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs. Fassbender will reprise his android David in Covenant. Scott has also recently confirmed that, following the curveball of Prometheus, Convenant will be a full-on Alien movie. "There was always this discussion:"...
