FOX SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES TO RELEASE SHORT FILMS ON SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS

Fox Searchlight Pictures’ Chairmen Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula today announced the launch of “Searchlight Shorts” – a collection of short films now available on Fox Searchlight’s YouTube channel and “Searchlight Shorts” Facebook page.

Fox Searchlight plans to release a new short on its YouTube channel once a month and fans are encouraged to subscribe to the channel to access the films as soon as they’re available. Fans can also join the Searchlight Shorts Facebook group as a destination for new digital content with the opportunity discuss and explore the creative process.

“We’re excited to be expanding our presence in the short film world, and building lasting relationships with these talented filmmakers,” said Utley and Gilula. “By featuring these films on our social media channels we’re able to introduce audiences around the world to these unique stories by truly innovative artists who represent the future of our industry.”

The first film to be released on the Fox Searchlight social media channels is the recent Best Live Action Short Oscar® winner “Skin.” Other short films to be featured include “Feathers” and “Birdie,” which were acquired in late 2018; “Lavender,” which made its premiere at Sundance earlier this year; and the recently acquired “Sew Torn.”

In “Skin,” a young boy has an innocent encounter with an African American man at a supermarket and his parents react to the exchange with racial violence. The two families find themselves in a clash with shocking consequences. The film is directed by Guy Nattiv, co-written by Nattiv and Sharon Maymon, and stars Danielle Macdonald, Jonathan Tucker, Jackson Robert Scott, Lonnie Chavis and Ashley Thomas. The film is produced by Jaime Ray Newman, Andrew Carlberg, Tim Harms and Guy Nattiv, and executive produced by Matt Luber, Stephen Mao, Joanna Plafsky, Celine Rattray, Jessica Sherman, Peter Sobiloff and Trudie Styler.

“Feathers” centers around Elizier, an emotionally-dejected new enrollee at The Edward R. Mill School for Lost Boys, who must overcome memories of a tragic past and the present hazing by his peers in order to tackle larger issues dominating his young life. The film is written and directed by A.V. Rockwell and stars Kyngston Alvarez, Nicoye Banks and Shavez Frost. The film is produced by Marttise Hill, Julius Pryor and Marvin Scott, and executive produced by A.V. Rockwell and Rhea Scott.

“Birdie” is a drama following a woman walking alone in a train station, who finds herself part of a sinister game after returning the smallest of gestures to a young man. The film is written and directed by Shelly Lauman and stars Maeve Dermody and Sam Parsonson. The film is produced by Lizzie Cater, and executive produced by Bethany Bruce and Jessica Mitchell.

“Lavender” follows the story of a young gay man as he develops a complicated relationship with an older married couple. It is a tender, poignant look at an unconventional relationship as it blossoms and ultimately unravels. The film is written and directed by Matthew Puccini and stars Michael Urie, Michael Hsu Rosen and Ken Barnett. The film is produced by Casey Bader, Corey Deckler and Tyler Rabinowitz, and executive produced by Sam Abbas, Jason Michael Berman and Natalé Olsen.

“Sew Torn” is a tale of a seamstress, her thread, and a deal gone bad. The film is written and directed by Freddy Macdonald and stars Dagna Litzenberger-Vinet, Cor Boersma, and Thomas Douglas. The film is produced by Fred Macdonald, and executive produced by Peter Spears.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
