BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Boom! Studios’ The Woods Heading To TV

THR is reporting Boom! Studios’ popular comic The Woods is heading to television.

Universal Cable Productions has picked up the rights to the sci-fi-horror ongoing comic book series to be adapted for television.

Boom! CEO Ross Richie will exec produce along with the company’s president of development, Stephen Christy. Josh Levy, senior vp television, will co-exec produce.

Created by Batman writer James Tynion IV and artist Michael Dialynas, Woods tells of 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff from a preparatory high school in suburban Milwaukee who vanish without a trace … only to re-appear light years away in the primordial forest of another planet.

Woods was Boom!’s most successful comic of 2014 and is the company’s second most popular comic behind its best-seller Lumberjanes (which is set up at Fox as a feature film adaptation). The first volume of the critically acclaimed graphic novel, collecting the first four issues, sold out of its first print run of 10,000 copies in a weeks.

Boom!, which was behind the hit Denzel Washington-Mark Wahlberg action movie 2 Guns, has been making inroads into TV of late. It is currently developing Protocol: Orphans with Amanda Segel (Person of Interest) writing and exec producing. Graphic novel series Cow Boy from BOOM! imprint Archaia is in development at Dreamworks TV as an animated series.

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
