BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

One Big Happy S01E03 Recap: Crushing It

Everything’s coming up Lizzy, or is it?

Story by @ErikaAshley

Luke and Prudence give Lizzy great news that Luke was able to get her an appointment with her dream OBGYN doctor, Dr. Levine by lying and letting him win a game of hoops. Lizzy thanks Luke with a graciously long hug and round of high-fives while Prudence stands awkwardly to the side trying to get in on the action. Later the trio head to their gym and Lizzy stumbles upon her gym crush, an inflexible brunette. Luke and Prudence try to push Lizzy to take a chance and talk to her gym crush when Prudence arranges for the girl to use the treadmill next to Lizzy. Lizzy and her crush walk alongside each other making small talk when her crush introduces herself as Kate and accidently falls off the treadmill while attempting to shake Lizzy’s hand. Lizzy jumps off the treadmill and tries to help her up and Kate runs off embarrassed.

Later the gang meets up at the Luke’s Bowling Alley to help Lizzy break the ice and figure out if Kate is lesbian. When Kate arrives they begin a round of “Gay or Nay” each taking guesses as to whether or not Lizzy has a chance with her. They try not to make it awkward but ask random questions that are not so random. Kate reveals she’s gay and Lizzy is relieved to continue on their bowling group date.

The next day Luke and Lizzy go to the OBGYN appointment she’s been long awaiting and in walks Kate, who is a nurse at the doctor’s office, to take Lizzy’s information down. Everyone is surprised to see each other which leads Luke and Lizzy to explain to Kate what’s going on since Lizzy hasn’t yet filled her in on the details of her pregnancy, or her pregnancy in general. Embarrassed at seeing her new love interest that is also forced to take her vitals Lizzy answers Kate’s questions awkwardly and untruthfully while Luke laughs at the entire situation. When Kate has to take Lizzy’s urine sample to get tested Lizzy accidently spikes it off the counter and splashes it onto Kate’s shoes. Mortified Lizzy stands stunned and Kate tries to shrug it off but Luke makes matters worse by recording the uncomfortable encounter.

Back at Lizzy’s place the group discusses the fiasco and Luke tries to rationalize what happened and offers some positive insight. He tries to give Lizzy hope by explaining how Prudence is ok with their arrangement and how it’s going so well with her. Prudence listens to his explanation about how she is completely fine with him having an entirely different family without her and it brings a foul taste to her mouth. Suddenly Lizzy’s phone rings with a call from her new OBGYN’s office and she and Luke leave to the kitchen to answer it while Leisha and Prudence wait in the living room. Prudence starts having a little freak out and has a drink with Leisha. Prudence admits she’s a little upset about the position they’re in but says she can’t do anything about it because of her upbringing. Leisha urges her to tell Luke because it might hurt their relationship in the long run, just when Lizzy and Luke return to the living room. Lizzy is beyond happy that Kate has asked to see her again even after the horrible appointment at the doctor’s office.

The gang reassembles at the bowling alley for their “league bowling night” that Lizzy has made up as a façade for Kate. She jokes with Luke and Prudence gets jealous watching them from afar with Leisha. Leisha tells her that it’s ok to confront her husband because they’re married and she shows Prudence how by picking a fight with her husband Roy. When Prudence tries her hand at confronting Luke he gets confused and begins mindlessly apologizing for random things. She gets made and storms off and he chases her around the bowling alley trying to make amends. Kate breaks the bad news to Lizzy that even though she likes her they won’t be able to date because Dr. Levine has a policy banning their relationship between patients and staff.

Back at Lizzy and Luke’s, Prudence and Luke make up and agree that their fight was good for their relationship. Luke agrees and has Lizzy weigh in that they will work harder to include her in the pregnancy so she doesn’t feel like such an outsider in their new family. Lizzy reluctantly agrees. The threesome then go to Lizzy’s next doctor’s appointment where Dr. Levine performs and ultrasound and shows the family their newest addition. Kate counts the days until Lizzy will no longer be a patient which makes Dr. Levine skeptical but the heartbeat of the baby focuses the group’s attention at the growing bundle of joy that is bringing them all together.

As I mentioned in my last recap I knew it would only be a matter of time before Prudence showed some kind of jealously towards Lizzy and Luke and voila! There it is, three episodes in and Prudence is outright upset at Lizzy and Luke’s connection and by all means the situation is obviously not conventional. From this point forward I’m almost positive that the writers have contributed almost every gay/lesbian joke known to man, but I’m sure they are going to be pulling some from the woodworks because they rely so heavily on stereotypical homosexual humor they’ll need to add a gay man to spice it up a bit. Here’s to next week.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
