DOLPHIN TALE 2 delivers another heart-warming story that the whole family can enjoy. The story continues with everyone’s favorite prosthetic-wearing dolphin, Winter, as big changes come into her life. With the death of her beloved surrogate mother, Panama, Winter takes a turn for the worse as she goes into mourning. With the threat of being transferred to another aquarium, as dolphins cannot survive without another dolphin companion, her care takers at Clearwater Marine Hospital try to come to terms with the threat of her loss.
With the 30-day countdown until Winter leaves, a young female dolphin is found and taken to the marine hospital. Since she is so young, she will not be able to be released back into the wild and could, potentially, be the perfect match for Winter. With this possibility she is given the name of Hope. DOLPHIN TALE 2’s most suspenseful scenes are with the interaction of Winter and Hope to see if these two will be able to bond and become friends.
Along with Winter and Hope, we are reintroduced the always-interfering pelican, Rufus, and a sea turtle caught in fishing wires, Mavis. Watching Rufus interact with, care for and become the protector of Mavis gives some of the biggest laughs of the movie. The comedic relief of these two helps to lighten the mood and shows us another fun-filled friendship and they are destined to become fan favorites.
All of the original cast are back for this second tale. Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, and Kris Kristofferson all return to reprise their roles. Bethany Hamilton is a delightful addition to the movie as well. In the first DOLPHIN TALE, Sawyer and Hazel were young kids whose friendship formed while Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) learned about sea life alongside her dad, Dr. Clay Haskett (Harry Connick Jr.) while he worked at the Clearwater Marine Hospital. Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) was the boy who helped Winter after she was found with a crab trap found around her tail. After bonding with Winter, Sawyer was allowed to assist with her recovery at the marine hospital. Now, Sawyer and Hazel are teens and their friendship is becoming, awkwardly, more than friends. This budding romance is touched on lightly to the thrill of teenage girls and horror of pre-teen boys.
DOLPHIN TALE 2 is a must-see for anyone wanting to see a heartwarming movie that the whole family can enjoy. You will laugh, cry and cheer as you root for this menagerie of sea animals and humans alike.
