BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Top 5 Stoner Movies Of All-Time

Top 5 Stoner Movies Of All-Time

Since the beginning of its popularity in the United States, marijuana has influenced generations, cultures, as well as blockbuster Hollywood films. Marijuana is so popular, it has been said that more than 18 million people used it in 2009, and that's just the out-of-the-closet potheads. What if you added the behind-the-scenes, no-one knows, users? That number would probably triple. If it wasn't so, Hollywood wouldn't make movies about it, and we wouldn't have these hilariously funny movies to watch. It's time to countdown the Top 5 Stoner Films of All-Time, so sit back and relax, because it's time to get BAKED! (Note: When I say Stoner films, I mean Stoner films. These are all films that are either dedicated to or are influenced by marijuana.)

5. Pineapple Express - Written and directed by team Apatow (the guys who brought us Superbad, The 40-year-old Virgin, and Knocked up), this 2008 film is based on the lives of a pot smoking process server and his burnt-out weed dealer, who get caught up in drug war between two gangs after one of them witnesses a murder. After being witness to a murder, the process server (Dale Denton) runs to his dealers house (Saul Silver), and then the fun begins. While running from one of the gang leaders, who is a marijuana kingpin, the two engage in some ridiculous action sequences with Saul's supplier and two odd charactered henchmen. This over-the-top comedy's formula of constant humor, outrageous and ridiculous action scenes, and the perfect chemistry between actors Seth Rogan and James Franco, makes this one of the best stoner films to ever hit the big screen.

4. Grandma's Boy - This under-rated 2006 movie, is a hilarious film that comes from, Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions. The film is about a 35 year old pothead video game tester named Alex, who is surrounded by a bunch of burnt-out friends, and is forced to move in with his over-bearing grandma and her two room mates. To save face with his co-workers Alex makes up stories about having three sex-crazed room mates, and when the cat comes out of the bag, the real party starts at grandma's house. Filled with hilarious scenes throughout the movie, it very hard to pick a favorite, but I guarantee that this film will having you crying from laughing so much.

3. Friday - Released in 1995, this hilarious film about a typical day of two youths in South Central, depicts the reality of growing up in the hood without all the shoot-em gang banging found in most fils about inner city life. The two main characters of the movie are played by Chris Tucker, who plays "Smokey" a marijuana-worshipping homeboy, and Ice Cube, who plays "Craig", a frustrated teen that is right in the middle of all the drama of the hood. After Craig gets fired on his day off, the two embark on a marijuana filled journey, as Smokey influences him to get high with him. Throughout the movie, the two encounter crackheads, a neighbor hood bully, a drug dealing gang banger with a perm, and a scheming girlfriend, in hilariously funny skits. This is definitely a must see film, regardless if you are a stoner or not.

2. Fast Times at Ridgemont High - This 1982 film, was written by Cameron Crowe, after he spent a year undercover in a California high school researching for a book he was writing. The story line deals with the lives of a few iconic teens, including one of the schools most popular kids, a nerd, a teen queen, and the class stoner, who finds himself in a battle with a strict history teacher. This very entertaining and hilarious film launched the careers of Sean Penn, Judge Reinhold, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Phoebe Cates.

1. Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke - This 1978 film should top all stoners lists and it can be considered the "Holy Grail", of Stoner films. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong make their film debut as acclaimed potheads in this rock-n-roll comedy classic. The film is based on two bumbling potheads that are on a journey looking for "Primo Bud", rock-n-roll, and good times without realizing the van they are driving is completely made up of it. Throughout the film the two are being followed by a group of undercover cops that are trying to bust them, but seem to have a problem doing so, since they are continuously getting a contact high from the smoking van. One great scene in the film, is when the undercover cops pull Cheech and Chong over, and then forget why they did while standing next to the van. This is definitely a must see film if you love love stoner films. Stoners missing out on this film, would be like a person that loves mafia flicks, never watching "The Godfather".

Dude, how isn't Dazed and Confused in the tip 5? When Mathew Mcconaughy comes out with his peach pant, it is an ultimate moment of a tweeker movie. There is no way Grandma's Boy and Fast Times at Ridgement High in top 5. Next your going to tell us the Twilight series is on of the most critically acclaimed series and it should be in the AFI top 50 best films. I'm just glad I'm behind Dave's cabinet and couldn't read the article myself.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
