BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Mark Hamill To Direct "The Black Pearl"

Mark Hamill To Direct "The Black Pearl"

Mark Hamill (Yes, Luke Skywalker)  is directing a bigscreen adaptation of his comicbook miniseries "The Black Pearl" through new production and finance outfit Berkeley Square Films.

Project was originally penned for the big screen 14 years ago but then turned into a comicbook. The $7 million live-action pic is adapted by Hamill and "The Fighter's" Paul Tamasy and writing partner Eric Johnson. Hamill said the comic, which was published by Dark Horse Comics in 1996 and penned by Hamill and Johnson, is a "dark, edgy thriller" that the company hopes will receive an R rating.

Hamill admits he's been "obsessed with comicbooks" his entire life -- his directorial debut was docu "Comic Book: The Movie" and he has provided voiceovers for comic-based programs, including the Joker in "Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker."

"We started getting interest from some pretty big producers a while ago," said Hamill of the "Pearl" material. "But then it started to take on a life of its own where it became this huge megabudget comicbook movie. This was the exact opposite of what we wanted to do."

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
