BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Jerry Bruckheimer Updates his Slate of Films

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer gave us a quick update on his slate of upcoming movies as we and a group of other reporters chased him down a hallway following his press conference promoting ABC's The Forgotten at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., on Sunday:

♦Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: The film based on Ubisoft's video game, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is heavy into editing. Bruckheimer said post-production is going well and he should have a trailer ready soon. "I hope in the fall," he said. "Fall or Christmas."

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: Rob Marshall is reportedly in line to take over as director of the lucrative Jack Sparrow franchise from Gore Verbinski. Bruckheimer said that he is confident Marshall can carry the torch, but did not confirm the Chicago director yet. "I think it'll be great," Bruckheimer said. "First we've got to make a deal." Should it be Marshall, Bruckheimer thinks you'll never notice there's a new captain at the helm of Pirates. "No, he's got a great sense of humor," Bruckheimer said. "He's very funny."

♦The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Production on the live-action modern-day update of Disney's Fantasia segment was plagued with two vehicular accidents earlier this year. Bruckheimer's debrief was practical. "It's sad," he said. "We do dangerous things, we try to keep them as safe as possible. One we had nothing to do with. It was just a person who lost control of their car, so nothing we can do about that." As the Sorcerer, Nicolas Cage sports long hair, a look he has also toyed with in films such as Con Air. "I think it's fantastic," Bruckheimer said. "He looks really handsome, sexy. You girls'll love him."

♦The Lone Ranger: It seems totally Johnny Depp for the megastar to prefer the role of sidekick Tonto over the Ranger himself. A producer might prefer the A-lister in the lead role, but Bruckheimer gets Depp's sensibiltiies. "No, we always wanted him as Tonto," he said.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
