Universal  studios has a big fat blockbuster overseas in Fast Five , which releases into North American theaters this Friday as the fifth installment of the very popular street racing franchise. But here's what really gives me reason to think Universal might be back on the right track: what's planned for Fast Six . No studio has ever dared to change the genre of a successful franchise, but it's a bold and provocative move. In summary, It's already known that Universal has started Chris Morgan -- the screenwriter of Fast Five as well as The Fast And The Furious 3: Tokyo Drif t, and Fast & Furious 4 -- on the script for the sixth installment as part of his new production deal at the studio. But Morgan is also a great scripter of the crime-thriller genre, like Wanted . So what Fast Five sets up nicely is a Fast Six whose plot revolves around a major robbery. He's back. Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in a rights package that CAA is shopping today that will revive The Terminator , one of Hollywood's most iconic science fiction franchises. The agency is dropping the package on studios this afternoon. There is no screenwriter attached at this point, and Robert Cort is producing. This is the first real activity on The Terminator project since February 2010, when the property emerged from a bankruptcy auction and into the possession of Pacificor. The Santa Barbara-based hedge fund posted a bid of $29.5 million, with the promise that additional multimillion-dollar payments for each film would go to Halcyon, the company that made the 2009 McG-directed Terminator Salvation . That film starred Sam Worthington as the cyborg and Christian Bale as John Connor, and the storyline launched the battle between Skynet and the human survivors of the apocalypse, the war foreshadowed in James Cameron's visionary 1984 original film

Director George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead) knows a thing or two about zombies. So it’s no surprise that Activision Publishing enlisted the horror director to appear as himself in the new Call of the Dead zombie level that gamers can download on Xbox Live starting May 3 . Actors Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) and Danny Trejo (Machete) have joined Romero in the new undead level, which is part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation expansion pack . Today we got our hands on a T.V spot and a behind the scene featurette for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides . The film stars J ohnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, Stephen Graham, Gemma Ward, and Richard Griffiths . The film is scheduled to be released on May 20, 2011. Watch the clips after the Jump... That metallic sheen could suggest any number of likelihoods. Perhaps Jack Sparrow will find an island of pirate Terminators, or get his skeleton laced with adamantium (either of which we would totally pay to see). Possibly it hints at an encounter with the Silver Surfer, or, at a stretch (because those other suggestions are so plausible) with Chromeskull from Laid to Rest. Universal Pictures has set Vera Farmiga to star with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in Safe House , the Daniel Espinosa-directed drama. Production is already under way, with Reynolds playing a young agent assigned to escort a dangerous criminal to safety after they are attacked at a safe house. Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Robert Patrick and Liam Cunningham will also star in the drama. Scott Stuber is producing and Intrepid Pictures' Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans are exec producers. Farmiga will play a CIA operative supervising Reynolds' character. Farmiga stars in Source Code and made her directorial debut in Higher Ground, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.
