Could we be in for a return trip to the Overlook Hotel? Warner Bros. is quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel to “ The Shining ,” the 1980 Stanley Kubrick chillfest that many fans regard as the scariest movie of all time. The studio has solicited the involvement of Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt to craft a new take as producers, according to a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly. The film would focus on what happened before Jack Torrance (of course played memorably onscreen by Jack Nicholson ), his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness. A WB spokeswoman cautioned that any "Shining" prequel was in a very early stage and not even formally in development. Fox acted too soon in cancelling its pricey sci-fi drama Terra Nova , star Jason O'Mara told reporters Sunday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. In Beverly Hills to promote CBS' period drama Vegas , O'Mara said Fox took "an awful long time to make a premature decision" on the fate of the series, adding after the session that the series was just finding its feet creatively. "We proved that with the season finale -- there was a lot more story to tell," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "Creatively, we probably could have made some slightly better decisions halfway through but I think that's par for the course for such an ambitious series." While Terra Nova averaged 7.5 million total viewers and 2.6 million in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo in its 11-episode first season, it failed to catch on the way Fox had hoped. After scoring huge at the box office with its Avengers movie, Marvel is looking to explore the mythology on the small screen too. I’ve learned that Marvel’s TV division is in conversation with ABC and ABC Studios about doing a drama series in the Avengers world. I hear that the connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel, but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster. I hear the project is in a nascent stage, described as “a kernel of an idea,” with a number of scenarios being explored, including a high-concept cop show. Wrestling superstar and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle tries out for the 2012 Olympic team sixteen years after winning the gold. Angle was involved in amateur wrestling during both high school and college. In college at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, he won numerous accolades, including being a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I champion. After graduating, he won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1995 World Wrestling Championships. Angle then competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, where he won a gold medal in heavyweight freestyle wrestling. Kurt Angle is also one of only four people to complete a Grand Slam in amateur wrestling which is the junior nationals, the NCAAs, the World Championships and the Olympics. Rachel Nichols is in negotiations to join Justin Long in Stephen King's The Ten O'Clock People . The adaptation of King's short story, first published in Nightmares and Dreamscapes in 1993, is being directed by Tom Holland. Holland, a 1980s horror maven who wrote and directed Fright Night and Child's Play , previously tackled King’s Thinner and The Langoliers. The story centers on a man who, when attempting to kick his smoking habit, has his eyes opened to a frightening reality in which many people in authority are monsters. He joins a group of others like him called the Ten O’Clock People. Nichols would play a woman who, like the man, can see a horrible aspect of reality, hidden in plain sight. Nathaniel Kramer and E.J.
