A few years ago, there was a lot of hubbub surrounding “ X-Men Origins: Wolverine ." (No, it wasn’t the way they messed up Deadpool.) About a month prior to the film’s release, an unfinished copy was uploaded to the Internet for crazed fans to download and peruse. Lacking CGI or careful editing, the version was still more or less intact, and fans were able to criticize to their heart’s content. (Again, mostly about Deadpool.) Though the original source of the leak was never found, the U.S. attorney’s office nabbed one scapegoat for the affair: Gilberto Sanchez, who admitted to putting the workprint on Megaupload.com and spreading the link around the Internet. Yesterday, Sanchez was sentenced to a year in federal prison on one count of uploading copyrighted work being prepared for commercial distribution. 20th Century Fox has set VFX expert Tim Miller to direct X-Men Origins: Deadpool . Deadpool will serve as the directorial debut for the man, who has done effects work on the Bryan Singer-directed X-Men movies, Daredevil and Scott Pilgrim vs the World , among others. The Marvel character Deadpool, a.k.a. Wade Wilson , is a talkative mercenary with a host powers, including the ability to heal at a fast rate. Ryan Reynolds played Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, while Scott Adkins played the character of Deadpool after Wilson had transformed. Reynolds is at this stage attached to star in the movie, though script and scheduling could ultimately effect his involvement. WOLVERINE 2 In Theaters in 2012 During the People's Choice Awards this week, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE star Hugh Jackman had a few words about the sequel. On the red carpet, Jackman told reporters, "Wolverine's going to be back. He's going to Japan. We shoot that probably in a year, year-and-a-half, something like that." Hopefully that gives us a summer 2012 release for the second Wolverine film to join the Star Trek Sequel and the Marvel Avengers film both releasing that summer as well.
