Dungeons & Dragons Finally Coming To The Big Screen

Nearly a year after a six-day trial was held on the past and future of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, Warner Bros., Hasbro and Sweetpea Entertainment have worked out a deal that will usher in a new film and avoid a judge's intervention. The upcoming Warner Bros motion picture will be based on a script by David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans) and produced by Roy Lee (The Lego Movie, How To Train Your Dragon) with the involvement of Hasbro chief executive Brian Goldner and chief content officer Stephen Davis. It will take place in the popular D&D campaign setting of the Forgotten Realms. "We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen," said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros. Pictures. "This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possi

Why Marvel Might Not Need SDCC Anymore

How will today's confirmation affect the largest geek fest in the world? Story by Matt Cummings Even though the insanity that is San Diego Comic-Con makes enjoying the July event a real hassle, it's still clear that studios love the venue for its ability to release big stories to thousands of adoring fans. Together with social media, it's become the most effective (and cheapest) way to get your new television show or movie casting out there. But in recent years - particularly in 2014 - some studios began to re-think their strategies of waiting until the annual madness to build anticipation. Take Marvel Studios for example, the consistent darling of past conventions and the group particularly responsible for the way the current convention is covered and orchestrated. With their near lack of news last year for either 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy , 2016's Doctor Strange , or even this year's Ant-Man , it was clear that something was either amiss o

Spider-man Reboot: Rumors Abound

Has Matthew McConaughey Found The Right Script? By David Clark The rumor mill is in full swing, first it held news about Krang in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie; the latest rumor surfing the web is McConaughey taking on the roll of Norman Osborn in the new Spiderman reboot . Even the role of Spiderman is not yet solidified though, Asa Butterfield would seem to be one of the top choices to fill the web slinger’s shoes. Will McConaughey be joining Asa Butterfield in the near future? As of yet this is still a an unsubstantiated rumor but it is not as if McConaughey has not given people a reason to believe it might be true. After-all, he did recently broach this very topic in an interview. McConaughey let it slip that both DC and Marvel have approached him regarding roles within their respective universes. McConaughey had this to say on the topic, “It’s very simple for me. I look at the script. Is the opportunity exciting? Is the money that comes with it

Movie Review: The Age of Adaline

Beautifully shot, The Age of Adaline fails as much as it succeeds. Review by Matt Cummings Time travel and love seem to be inexorably intertwined, portrayed with varying levels of success. From Superman's attempt to save Lois Lane by spinning the world backwards to roll back time, to the Christopher Reeve/Jane Seymour drama Somewhere in Time , the subgenre hasn't gotten it quite right. And while beautifully shot and (mostly) well-acted, The Age of Adaline suffers from too many structural issues to recommend beyond a matinee dinner date. When a young woman (Blake Lively) crashes her car during an unexpected snowstorm, she is imbued with immortality, making her a witness to the events of the 20th Century. But immortality has also been a fierce trap: forced to move every decade to escape suspicion, Adaline can never settle down for fear that the government will find her. But a chance meeting on New Years Eve with the wealthy Ellis (Michiel Huissman) leads Adal
