BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

The Kingpin Will Return In Daredevil Season 3

Aside from a memorable cameo in one episode, Vincent D'Onofrio 's cultured crime boss Wilson Fisk, AKA the Kingpin, was largely absent from the last season of Daredevil . It appears he'll be back in force for Season 3. Quite what Fisk will be up to this time has yet to be revealed, and the extent of his appearance will also be a closely guarded secret. But he was such a highlight of the first season that we'll be glad to see him closing car doors on people again, and perhaps appreciating art. In addition to the casting news from Deadline, there is word that the show will have yet another boss behind the scenes, as The Man In The High Castle veteran Erik Oleson will be taking over the showrunner duties for this next season. "Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk,” says Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb, adding, "we're very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our...

Movie Review: #CHiPs

The raunch of CHiPs makes it a great comedic ride down the California highway. Review by Matt Cummings As a young teen, I spent more than enough time in front of the television, absorbed in now-forgettable series like CHiPs . But there are elements of this campy comedy/drama that still resonate: the excellent motorcycle sequences, those awesome Harley Davidsons, the groovy Big Band music from Season 1. Its revival in theaters this week reflects little of the series' original DNA, but it still works as a hilarious raunchy re-imagining and perhaps a blueprint for a potential franchise. As the FBI pursues corruption within the California Highway Patrol, it assigns one of its agents (Michael Pena) to go undercover as Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello, who secretly harbors sexual desires for any woman in yoga pants, masturbating three times or more before lunch. He's teamed up with the oldest recruit in the CHP, the former motorcycle stunt rider Jon Baker (Dax Shepard...

Enter For A Chance To Win Passes To See CHIPS In Albuquerque

Enter for a chance to see CHIPS on March 22 at 7:00 PM in Albuquerque. Jon Baker ( Shepard) and Frank Ponch Poncherello ( Peña ) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP. The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way. See how to enter after the Jump... Movie Review: Rings

You'll be bored of the Rings. Review by Brandon Wolfe Samara Morgan, the demonic, well-dwelling little girl with a face constantly obscured by wet, black hair, never really got her fair shake as an American horror icon. Introduced in 2002’s The Ring —a remake of the Japanese horror hit Ringu and one of the rare American remakes to vastly surpass the quality of its progenitor—Samara seemed destined to ride that film’s huge success into the big leagues of franchised horror. She had a unique look and a terrific gimmick, and therefore met the basic standards for admission into the genre’s rogues’ gallery. Yet apart from a single sequel (2005’s wholly forgettable The Ring Two ), Samara found herself left behind, stuck down in the dank well of forgotten would-be franchises. The Johnny-come-lately third sequel Rings finally dusts Samara off and puts her back into play, but with the lingering sense that her moment has passed and cannot be reclaimed. After all, vengeful she-wraiths ...

Movie Review: #TheMagnificentSeven

The Magnificent Seven is the best film in months. Thank the western movie gods. Review by Matt Cummings Director Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven is perhaps a mirror of its time: a restless, fun, but ultimately pulpy action flick with a tad more substance than most brainless fare. And yet, it's so much fun, so funny, and never boring that any problems I (or it appears every other American critic) have with it are easily erased. After witnessing unimaginable loss by the evil robber baron Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), a hardworking town seeks revenge and righteousness in the form of seven antiheroes, each with their own checkered past. There's the bounty hunter leader Chisolm (Denzel Washington), the card-playing womanizer Faraday (Chris Pratt), Chisolm's sniper buddy Goodnight (Ethan Hawke) and assassin/friend Billy (Byung-hun Lee), a wanted felon (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and the aging hunter Horne (Vincent D'Onofrio). As the widow Emma (Haley Benn...

Movie Review: 'Jurassic World'

The return of dinosaur destruction satisfies but doesn't sustain. Review by Matt Cummings WARNING: Major spoilers ahead. When Jurassic Park premiered in 1993, audiences were amazed at what eventually became the next great leap in CGI: believable prehistorics being chased by humans who effectively argued against man interfering with nature. Two disappointing sequels and two decades later, the sequel/retconned Jurassic World arrives, sparring no expense to return the franchise to respectability. And while it satisfies in the simplest way possible, its story gaps, good (not great) CGI, and decent performances keep it from wiping off the mud of its shunned brethren. After the disastrous events of Isla Nubar in the first film, The Disneyland-like world of Isla Nubar is now replete with happy genetically-spliced dinosaurs of every kind, creating a safe (if homogeneous) experience, with children riding mini-Triceratops and a Sea World-inspired demonstration of a Mosasau...

Movie Review: Run All Night

Run All Night doesn't do much new, but it tells its story in the most effective manner possible. Story by Matt Cummings If there's one thing we recently love about Actor Liam Neeson, it's the one thing we also hate. Having re-established his career with the Taken series, Neeson has become the go-to guy for one-note action vehicles, starring in Non-Stop , A Walk Among the Tombstones , and many others. And therein lies the problem: too many of the same movies for too long has left audiences with Neeson Malaise, as if we have collectively recognized the need for him to move on to something else. Fortunately, Run All Night proves he still works in these vehicles, even if the pieces haven't changed much. The aging assassin Jimmy Conlon (Neeson) has lived a life of deadly confrontations, amassing a body count that's made him a wanted man in New York City. But Detective Harding (Vincent D'Onofrio) can't seem to pin the litany of dead bodies on...

Chris Pratt Hanging With A Raptor In This New Jurassic World Image

But if you’re in the midst of making a film, you can call on some fun imagery. That’s just what Jurassic World ’s Colin Trevorrow has done for a new tweet . Yes, that’s Chris Pratt seemingly hanging with a raptor (whose name is not given, but we’d like to think is called Fiona) and if you've seen the first trailer for the film, you’ll know that in addition to Pratt’s Owen somehow being able to make a leather waistcoat work, he’s also a dino behavioral specialist who studies and works with raptors. “Don’t try this at home,” warns Trevorrow’s tweet. It's sound advice, since, like those who work with big cats or other predators, Owen knows that raptors are not your friends, no matter how closely you work with them. And Jurassic World will naturally provide another cautionary tale for those who think that to make money they can tamper with nature, as its set in a functioning Jurassic Park that looks to drum up business with a brand new dinosaur. Which, of course, means tha...

The Judge Review: Guilty as Charged

The Judge suffers from too much melodramatic schmaltz to earn our respect or trust. Among the questions raised during our October movie preview , one included the ensemble court drama The Judge : could Actor Robert Downey Jr. rise above his Iron Man persona and deliver a great dramatic performance, while giving its deep cast their individual moments in the sun? The answer is not the strong yes we would have hoped, with the unnecessarily long film barely having enough to keep our attention. Hothead defense attorney Hank Palmer (Downey) lives the fast life, routinely getting the charges against his high-priced clients removed. It's not until the sudden death of his mother that Hank must return to his hometown to bury her and deal with the demons from his past. There's his brother Glen (Vincent D'Onofrio) whose high profile accident in their youth ruined his baseball career, and the girl Hank left behind (Vera Farminga), who now has a daughter. But it's the ...
