Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC announced today that four Batman titles will be released on 4K UHD to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the DC Super Hero created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The films include 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns , directed by Tim Burton, and 1995’s Batman Forever and 1997’s Batman & Robin , directed by Joel Schumacher. The four films, which earned more than $1.2 billion in global box office, have been remastered in 4K UHD for the first time. The films will be available as 4K UHD singles on June 4 and will also be available as a four-film collection on September 17. The 4K UHD singles and the four-film collection available in September will also include remastered Blu-ray discs of the films. After months of barely hearing anything about the casting for the Top Gun sequel, here comes another announcement hot on the heels of the most recent additions. Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman are all joining Tom Cruise in the new movie. The sequel, which may still go by the title Top Gun: Maverick after the call sign of Cruise's Peter Mitchell, will explore a world where aerial combat is increasingly shifting from crewed aircraft to drones. But there is still a need for human pilots, so the likes of Mitchell are training the next generation. There's no information yet as to what Hamm, Harris or Pullman – the son of Bill, who was last seen in The Strangers: Prey At Night – are doing in the movie, but they'll be part of a cast that also includes Val Kilmer (back as fellow veteran flyer Tom "Iceman" Kazansky), Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller and more recent recruits Glen Powell, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Mon

Variety is reporting that “ Only the Brave ” star Miles Teller has been tapped to play the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege in Paramount and Skydance’s “ Top Gun: Maverick ,” the sequel to the 1986 Cruise classic. In the original pic, Goose, played by Anthony Edwards , was the co-pilot to Cruise’s Maverick. Last week, it was reported that Cruise tested with Teller, Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult for the role. “Oblivion” helmer Joe Kosinski is directing the film. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first film, will produce with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison. This latest project will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters, and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting. The unusual The Snowman wastes its great cast on a careless and disposable plot. The imprint will generate a series of novels with a stable of writers and the properties will simultaneously be developed for film and television. Mann will look through his own long list of credits for ideas, and a big piece of news here is that high on the priority list is a prequel novel dealing with the principal characters of Heat, Mann’s seminal crime thriller. The prequel novel will cover the formative years of homicide detective Vincent Hanna ( Al Pacino ), Neil McCauley ( Robert De Niro ), Chris Shihirles ( Val Kilmer ), McCauley’s accomplice Nate ( Jon Voight ), and other characters so brilliantly layered in the 1995 film. Earlier this week, IFC spoke to " Trespass " director Joel Schumacher about Christopher Nolan 's record-breaking run with Batman -- a character near and dear to his heart after he made not one but two films featuring the DC Comics icon. While Schumacher's first adventure with Batman was a box-office success -- 1995's " Batman Forever " -- his 1997 " Batman & Robin " sequel didn't fare as well. Along with near-universal negative reviews, the film failed to perform at the box office and eventually became known as the film that "killed" the Batman franchise (until Nolan came along, of course).
