The Walt Disney Studios has unveiled its upcoming slate following the recent acquisition of the Fox film studios, including changes to previously dated films and a number of major additions. After kicking off with the record-setting success of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame , The Walt Disney Studios’ 2019 summer slate includes Disney’s Aladdin on May 24, Fox’s Dark Phoenix on June 7, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 on June 21, Fox’s Stuber on July 12, and Disney’s The Lion King on July 19. Amid a torrent of announcements at today’s D23 animation panel, we learned that John Lasseter will not be directing 2019's Toy Story 4 , as previously thought, passing the reins to Josh Cooley instead. Following in the footsteps of Lee Unkrich , who took over from Lasseter on Toy Story 3 , Cooley will lead Buzz, Woody and the gang on their fourth outing, having come a long way from his days as a Pixar intern on the first Cars film, before stepping up to become a writer on inside Out . Taking to the stage, Cooley teed up a short teaser film of him wandering the Pixar offices and talking to many of the artists and designers involved in the film. As the film palyed out, we briefly glimpsed a new toy that looked a lot like a Hawaiian doll, called Lulu and early pre-vis of a toy chick. THR is reporting The two Pixar films are swapping release dates. Disney has changed release dates for two high-profile Pixar sequels. The Incredibles 2 will now hit theaters on June 15, 2018, while Toy Story 4 will hit theaters on June 21, 2019. The two films are swapping dates due to an accelerated production schedule for Incredibles 2, according to Disney insiders. Oscar-winning director Brad Bird is helming Incredibles 2, the follow-up to his hit 2004 film that grossed north of $633 million globally following its early November launch, including $70.4 million domestically, the second-biggest opening at the time for an animated title. The mid-June corridor has always been a favorite landing place for Pixar movies. Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter confirmed on Friday what fans have speculated about for the better part of a year: " Toy Story 4 " will revolve around a romance between the blockbuster's main character, a toy cowboy voiced by Tom Hanks, and a nursery rhyme doll. Fans who wanted Toy Story 4 to be a return trip with Woody, Buzz Lightyear , and the gang was dealt a blow on Friday, as Pixar president Jim Morris told Disney Latino (via The Daily Telegraph) that the new film in the franchise will veer from the relationship between the now-college-aged Andy and his beloved toys that drove the first three movies. “In temperament it is, but it will be a love story,” said Morris. “It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children.” Morris also dispelled the idea the new film, coming after what with many thought was a logical, perfect end to the series, was a money grab: “That’s not what it’s about.
