Please be the last Ride. Review by Brandon Wolfe Kevin Hart is a funny man. I don’t think many outside of his most strident detractors would hesitate to concede that point. What might get called into question is whether or not his particular brand of funny warrants headlining entire films. Hart can be a bit much when given center stage, his shrill, hyperkinetic energy perhaps better suited for supporting roles. Put another way, when placing him into the context of an action-comedy, he might perhaps function best as second-banana comic relief. Think Joe Pesci in the Lethal Weapon series. That would be a good fit for him, accentuating rather than saturating. Yet Hart is, of course, the main attraction in Ride Along 2 (the Mel Gibson, if you will), and he does tend to wear one down at length. Hangover alum Ken Jeong has joined the cast of Universal’s Ride Along 2 , joining returning leads Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in the cop comedy sequel to this year’s $153 million hit. Tim Story will direct and Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay are writing the script. Cube and Matt Alvarez will produce for CubeVision alongside Will Packer for Will Packer Productions and Larry Brezner. Think Like a Man Too squanders its many assets and gets too serious at the end. If I could blame two movies for ruining everything, it would be The Lord of the Rings series and The Hangover - each changed their genres instantly and forever, raising expectations for everything that came afterwards. So, when a distributive of these films come out, all we can do is shake our head and wonder what could have been. Such was our experience with Think Like a Man Too , a film that lays no new ground and suffers from a pang of conscience midway through the third act. As the crew gather for a wedding in Las Vegas, we see several relationships started in the original now at key junctions. Couple Lauren (Taraji P. Henson) and Dominic (Michael Ealy) have received enticing job offers far away from LA, while fiancees Michael (Terrance Jenkins) and Kristen (Gabrielle Union) must deal with Michael's overly protective mother (Jennifer Lewis), who doesn't like Kristen in the least.
