Natalie Portman Is Done With Marvel

Looks like Thor is a single god again. According to Natalie Portman , her time in the MCU is at an end. Jane Foster’s absence from Thor: Ragnarok is likely to be a permanent development. “As far as I know, I’m done,” she revealed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. "I don’t know if maybe one day, they’ll ask for an Avengers 7 or whatever, but as far as I know, I’m done. It was a great thing to be a part of.” Of course, Portman’s astrophysicist has been rather left behind by the evolving state of the MCU. We last saw her in Thor: The Dark World and, although Thor mentioned her at Tony Stark's party in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, she’s inevitably faded into the background since her Norse love interest returned to Asgard. If true, it’s a departure from Marvel’s policy of keeping its players on long contracts, even if she seems to have left the window open for a return down the line. Don’t bet against that Avengers 7 prediction coming true one day, albeit with a dif...

Marvel Collector Corps Review: August 2015

After a smallish June, Marvel returns with a big Secret War theme. Review by Matt Cummings The subscription box war has seen Marvel enter the fray with it Collector Corps boxes, which resulted in a fabulous and memorable April , which was followed up by a somewhat disappointing June . While not a total failure like Fox's The Fantastic Four , it did show just how close Marvel had cozied-up with Funko Pop; whether that bothers you probably depends on a number of factors, including the addition of Pop! figures in every box. And while Ant-Man the movie has grown on me, I still can't say the same about that month's Collector Corp. So it's very satisfying to announce that August's box - SECRET WAR - is back with everything we loved about April, giving fans exactly what they want: quality exclusives, including a shirt. The Promise Before we begin, let's look at the deal again: promising a value of $50, the box would keep the "fluff" (the...

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Opens to $180m

Why did the massively-hyped ultimately 'fail' at the box office? Story by Matt Cummings It goes without saying that Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron has the most hyped (and anticipated) film of the year so far. WIth a marketing campaign hitting every sector, it was an accepted fact that the superhero team-up follow-up would rake in big bucks in its opening weekend. And while it beat out Furious 7's massive opening, it failed to overtake its better brother. According to BoxOfficeMojo, Ultron opened to $187.7 million in 4,276 theaters in North America. That puts it #2 behind the all-time leader, 2012's The Avengers. Worldwide, the film has made a staggering $627 million in only 12 days, surpassing Captain America: The First Avenger ($371m), Thor ($449m), Iron Man ($583m) and Iron Man 2 ($622m). Back in The States, it was hoped that it could beat the $207.4m debut of the first Avengers : instead, it finished more than 9% behind. What Happened? S...

Event Review: Marvel Universe Live!

The high-octane show is exciting for kids and a welcomed activity for dads. Review by Matt Cummings It's not often when dads can get into the event side of the familial outing. That's usually reserved for moms and shows like Disney on Ice. But with this weekend's showing of Marvel Universe Live! in Sacramento, dads can add a new activity that won't bore them to tears and might actually entertain along the way. When Thor destroys the Cosmic Cube, sending the fractals to distant parts of the the planet, Loki returns to re-assemble it in his quest for worldwide domination. To do so, he'll need a cast of Marvel's most fearsome villains: Red Skull, The Sinister Six, and A.I.M. But there's a little group called The Avengers, led by Captain America and Iron Man, who have put together their own team to stop them. Hawkeye, Thor, and Black Widow join Bruce Banner, Wolverine, and Spider-man as they race across the continent to find the fractals before ...

Marvel's Comic Plans to Affect The Movies?

Read on to learn how Marvel's announcements mean bigger changes to the Cinematic Universe. This week's news of major changes within Marvel Comics are potentially bigger than those when the company relauched its comic series under the new banner Marvel Now! nearly two years ago. At that time, the shifting of writers, the introduction of new lines, and the re-positioning of characters like Rocket Raccoon and The Guardians of the Galaxy made their introduction into the Cinematic Universe possible. But as news this week of shake-ups for Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man were slowly rolled out on various television talk shows, two things became very apparent. Before getting into that, let's look at the changes themselves. On Monday, Marvel announced that Thor was losing his ability to wield Mjolnir, and that his power was being transferred to a woman. On Wednesday, The Colbert Report announced that Captain America will soon be replaced by The Falcon, as America...

MARVEL PROUDLY PRESENTS "THOR" God Of Thunder

Marvel is excited to announce an all-new era for the God of Thunder in brand new series, THOR , written by Jason Aaron ( Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin ) complimented with art from Russell Dauterman ( Cyclops ). This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s “big three” – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe? “The inscription on Thor's hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it's time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characte...
