BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones Team Up Again To Star In "The Aeronauts"

“ The Theory of Everything ” stars Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones are in negotiations to re-team in Amazon Studios’ “ The Aeronauts ,” sources tell Variety . “War & Peace’s” Tom Harper is attached to direct from a script by Jack Thorne. The screenplay is based on the true story of balloon pilot Amelia Wren (who would be played by Jones) and scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) who, in 1862, embarked on an extraordinary journey to discover the secrets of the heavens. In the process, they flew higher in an open balloon than anyone had before or has since. They made breathtaking discoveries, but as they ascended to the highest points of the atmosphere, they were forced into an epic fight for survival. Mandeville Films’ Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are producing the pic. Harper is also producing. Amazon nabbed the spec last winter after a heated bidding war. It’s currently unknown when production will commence. Redmayne, who won an Oscar for playing Stephen Hawking

Birdman Soars at Oscars

Offbeat showbiz satire bests Boyhood. By Brandon Wolfe The 87th Annual Academy Awards initially seemed like a horse race, but it wound up being strictly for the birds, as Birdman took home the prizes for Best Picture, Best Director for Alejandro González Iñárritu and Best Original Screenplay. Up until recently, Richard Linklater’s sublime Boyhood seemed like it had the Best Picture and Best Director categories all sewn up, but Birdman experienced a major resurgence in recent weeks, collecting several other major film awards in the lead-up to the Oscars. It would seem that the more insular showbiz milieu of Iñárritu’s surrealistic film struck a stronger chord with those in the film industry than did Linklater’s more universal film. The one prize that Birdman didn’t take home was the one that it initially seemed to have in the bag: Best Actor for Michael Keaton. The former Batman went home empty-handed as Eddie Redmayne won for his striking performance as Stephen Hawking i

Oscars 2015: Will American Sniper Steal the Show?

Does this weekend's mammoth opening tip the Oscar scales in its direction? Story by Matt Cummings Although the Clint Eastwood war drama American Sniper was poised to make a splash at this year's Oscars, there was no guarantee that it would become a sure-fire financial success. Films like The Imitation Game ($51m) and The Theory of Everything ($27m) featured excellent performances from Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne respectively, but neither has brought in the big bucks, a common feature for most Oscar nominees. But that all changed over the four-day weekend for Sniper , when it took home a stunning $89m in only its first weekend. Add in the Monday numbers and it surpassed $107m - the largest opening ever for a January film in wide release. Who could have saw that coming? Some have claimed its success was willing was based on what few films today will do: show less of itself in the trailers. Look at any film today, and you'll see most of it play

The Theory of Everything Review: Enjoyable But Fails to Take Chances

Unlike the science he studies, the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything doesn't take enough chances. Physicist Stephen Hawking is perhaps the greatest and well-known living scientist, with his extraordinary life struggles serving as inspiration for the new biopic The Theory of Everything . Although it succeeds in many areas, it suffers the same fate as its brethren: vanity. In 1963, the brilliant but odd-looking Brit Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) is attending Cambridge when he meets the driven Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones). Although their love is built on Hawking devoting his life to studying Cosmology and time, Jane is an intelligent soul who dreams of studying language. At roughly the same time, Hawking begins to show symptoms of the motor-neuron disease ALS that will eventually leave him confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak. But this eventuality doesn't phase Hawking, who does nothing short of redefine his field with a theory that combines General
