BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

#RondaRousey To Play Herself In Upcoming Biopic

Variety is reporting UFC fighter Ronda Rousey is making moves for her film career, and this latest project hits close to home. Paramount Pictures has secured the rights to Rousey’s New York Times bestselling autobiography “ My Fight/Your Fight ,” with Rousey playing herself. Mark Bomback on board to adapt the book, while Mary Parent is producing along with Rousey, with Bomback serving as exec producer. “It’s a real honor to be a part of bringing Ronda’s incredible story to the bigscreen,” Parent said. Written by Rousey with her sister Maria Burns Ortiz, “My Fight/Your Fight” is an inspirational story celebrating the accomplishments of Rousey, who faced extraordinary challenges on her path to glory. The book was published in spring by Regan Arts. No date has been set yet on when the project will go into production as Bomback has just begun adapting the book. Rousey is expected to fight one more time before the end of the year and will then shoot the Pete Berg-directed actio...

Expendables TV Series On It's Way

With three movies of varying quality and box office success out there (and more in development), you would think Sylvester Stallone would be quite happy with the amount of Expendables in the world. Yet he, along with producer Avi Lerner and Lionsgate have made a deal with the US Fox network to craft an “ event ” series (read: along the lines of 24: Live Another Day ) based on the gun-toting franchise to hit small screens. But with the change in venue comes a scaled-down line-up: gone are the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews and Dolph Lundgren and here come… Well, we don’t exactly know, as no actors have been so much as wish listed yet, but Deadline reports that the project will likely be stocked with a Who’s Who of older, iconic telly action types and possibly some of the current crop (the Strike Back team, for example). The plot, in case you were wondering, finds this fresh assemblage heading out on a mission to stop a terrorist. Which tota...

The Expendables 3 Tanks At The Box Office

Lionsgate and Millennium Films' The Expendables 3 opened to a muted $875,000 Thursday night from more than 2,200 locations. While on par with the $870,000 earned by The Expendables and ahead of the $685,000 grossed by the sequel, the threequel rolled out at 7 p.m., compared to midnight for the first two films. To boot, The Weinstein Co. and Walden Media's new YA film adaptation The Giver wasn't far behind, pulling in $750,000. Expendables 3 , featuring a multigenerational lineup of action stars, is expected to take in $20 million to $25 million for the weekend, a series low. In addition to potential franchise fatigue, a pristine copy of the film leaked on the Internet is likely to hurt grosses, much like what happened when X-Men Origins: Wolverine was pirated before its release in 2009. The weekend's other new offerings are the R-rated comedy Let's Be Cops , which got a jump on the competition by opening Wednesday, and The Giver. A trio of specialty films...

The Expendables 3 Review: The Indescribable Expendability of Dumb

Slight improvements keep the brainless The Expendables 3 off life support...barely. These days, 60 is apparently the new 30 and what better what to celebrate such an inappropriate consideration than to see a bunch of old dudes try to remain relevant in an industry that seems ready to show many of them the front door? This is The Expendables 3 , a measurably better experience than previous entries, but still of little value beyond mindless action apathy. With a smaller team, Barney (Sylvester Stallone) and his friends (Jason Staitham, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Dolph Lungren) raid a prison train to liberate the maniac Doc (Wesley Snipes) for what he calls 'tax evasion.' But soon the team is caught in a deadly shootout with Barney's former Expendable buddy Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), whose love of gunpowder and large-scale death is equally only by his love for fine art. When a teammate goes down, Barney decides to protect his friends by hiring a younger c...

August 2014 Movies On Our Radar

Summer 2014 gets one last chance to make an impression. Summer 2014 made a big run in July, featuring releases like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to The Purge: Anarchy , and Lucy. But there was a feeling that somehow Hollywood didn't exactly bring its A game. With films like The Dark Knight , Inception , the original Transformers and Harry Potter released during the same months during the previous 8 years, 2014's schedule felt very underwhelming. As Summer 2014 wraps up, we look to August to deliver a knockout punch, or at least offer better chances for box office glory than July. The schedule features mutated reptiles, washed up action actors, and a little film from Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1st) Plot: In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. Director: James Gunn Starring: Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Coop...
