BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

#Itmovie Has A Huge Opening Weekend

After the disappointment of The Dark Tower , there must have been concern about the potential performance of It . Turns out, no one needed to worry – the new Stephen King horror adaptation has smashed records with a hugely successful $117 million opening at the US box office, according to studio estimates. It nabbed the largest September opening, largest autumn opening, and the largest opening for a horror movie of any rating. Clearly Pennywise the terrifying clown touched a few nerves while scaring up plenty of business. The follow-up, which will catch up with the Losers' Club kids from the movie as adults, is already in the works and there's clearly some anticipation for it now. And the film also did well overseas, taking in $62 million for a $179.1 million global opening. There was a big gap between the horror and its comrade in new arrival status, but programming a Reese Witherspoon comedy – which itself has enjoyed good reviews – against It has panned out. Annabelle: Creation Takes The Top Spot

While other cinematic universes have been stumbling, the films spun off from The Conjuring are humming along nicely, winning decent reviews and box office success. The latest addition is Annabelle: Creation , which offers more details on the history of the possessed doll. This latest horror opened to $35 million, according to studio estimates. It's another solid scare win for director David F. Sandberg, who made last year's Lights Out and, with more movies coming based on supernatural nasties from the first Conjuring and its sequel, the prospects seem bright. Annabelle's arrival meant Dunkirk was once again second place with $11.4 million, but that's no worry for the movie, which has been out for four weeks already. Christopher Nolan's latest has passed $153 million in the States alone. At third we find the second new arrival of the week, animated sequel The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature , which earned $8.9 million. The Dark Tower started to crumble quickly, ...

Matthew McConaughey & Idris Elba Cast In The Dark Tower

The Dark Tower is one of those unfilmed Stephen King novels that seemed doomed to forever languish in development hell. But the wheels are finally turning on a movie version – with Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba now officially attached in leading roles. The news was confirmed by King himself, via his official Twitter feed. (The initial tweet was posted at 9.19am local time – a sly Dark Tower reference – although he then had to delete and re-post at a somewhat less significant time, after misspelling Elba’s name). The news comes as no major surprise; it was reported at the end of last year that McConaughey had been offered his pick of roles. Elba was then sought for the role of the gunslinger Roland Deschain. McConaughey, it appears, has opted for the darker, more mysterious part of the ‘man in black’. Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) is attached to direct the film, which previously had J.J. Abrams and Ron Howard in the director’s chair. (Howard is now producing.) The adap...

Will both sequels star the original Willennial? By Brandon Wolfe Sony has offered us a glimpse into its crystal ball, revealing its slate of upcoming films for the next few years. This report shows a slight release date shift for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters to July 15, 2016; the Magnificent Seven remake dropping on September 23, 2016; Underworld 5 on October 21, 2016; the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi team-up Passengers on December 21, 2016; a revival of Jumanji on Christmas Day, 2016; Resident Evil 6 on January 27, 2017; and the screen debut of Barbie on June 2, 2017. However, the bigger surprises to be found in this crop are the revelations that the first installment of the eternally delayed adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower has been given a concrete release date of January 13, 2017, and that not one, but TWO sequels to Bad Boys have been dated, for February 17, 2017 and July 3, 2019. Last we heard about a third Bad Boys was that Joe Carnahan wa...
