BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie In The Works

THR is reporting The heroes in a half shell are coming back for more pizza. Paramount is developing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and has hired Andrew Dodge, the writer behind the Jason Bateman comedy Bad Words, to pen the script. Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce the feature via their Platinum Dunes banner. The company was behind the studio’s horror hit A Quiet Place. Paramount has made two Ninja Turtles movies based on the 1980s cult comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird that spawned a pop cultural phenomenon in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The first movie, released in 2014, grossed $493 million worldwide, while 2016’s installment, subtitled Out of the Shadows, showed the limits of the franchise with $245 million. Neither was a hit with critics. However, both were made before the arrival of chairman Jim Gianopulos, who has made it a priority to clean up the studio’s slate and refocus its franchises. Insiders are hoping to bring a patina ...

#GeekFuel Review: June 2016

Does Geek Fuel's June release fulfill your love of geek? Read on to find out! Review by Matt Cummings After May's very good (but not great) Explorers theme - sporting great Nathan Drake and Westeros gear but a lame GF pint glass, we expected June to finally be the month in which the company achieved a rightful place at the sub box subsctiption table. Unfortunately, a hodge-podge of selections pushes GF right out of legitimacy once again. Before diving in, let's review the details: The cost for a Month to Month is $17.90, $16.90/month for a 3-month subscription, $15.90/month for a 6-month tour and just $13.90/month for a one-year subscription. Shipping $6.00 to the US, Canada, and at least a few other countries. We use QUALITY and TIMING to base our reviews, so let's see how this box stands up. As always, we'll end our review with some additional thoughts after the unboxing: Winners As you can see, June offers very little in the way of...

Movie Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

Sequel surprisingly not cowabungled. Review by Brandon Wolfe On average, I see somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-90 movies each year, and in the year of our Lord 2014, I did not see a single movie that I enjoyed less than the reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . Produced by Michael Bay’s IP-graverobbing shingle Platinum Dunes, the film was an ugly, unfunny, soul-dismantling garbage fire. The story was chaotic nonsense, the action was so overly busy as to be numbing and, worst of all, the Turtles, an engaging band of brothers in every prior incarnation, were horrifically redesigned as ghastly monsters with zero charisma. The film wasn’t merely an affront to longtime TMNT fans, it was a cautionary tale for what happens when whiz-bang summer entertainment is produced at its most cynical and calculated. The sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows , could have been a substantial improvement simply by aspiring to the level of being watchable, yet seemed far more ...

Will Krang Make An Appearance In #TMNT2

Sources Says The Villain Lineup Includes Krang Jonathan Liebesman is unapologetic for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie he released upon the world a year ago. Well the original was not a total flop, it is estimated the movie made less than $65 million domestically in gross profit. Despite the mediocre performance a sequel was greenlit almost immediately. Confirmed for appearances in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 are April O’Neil ( Megan Fox ), Casey Jones ( Stephen Amell ) , Baxter Stockman ( Tyler Perry ) , and the Shredder (Brian Tee ). Also confirmed for the movie are the updated Shredder henchmen, and fan favorite bad-guys, Bepop and Rocksteady. In the latest from Cinema Blend - a source involved in production for the movie claims another supervillain known as Krang has been added to the mix. Paramount Pictures has not confirmed or denied the latest information regarding the new villain. Interestingly, Paramount Pictures did request concept art reveali...

Tyler Perry Joins Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

Madea on the half shell. By Brandon Wolfe Last year’s impossibly awful reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made a ton of money, so we are thus condemned to be plunged into the toxic ooze once more in a sequel. That sequel will now add Tyler Perry , of all people, as Baxter Stockman, a scientist well-known to fans of TMNT lore. Stockman was the inventor of the Mousers, robotic exterminators used to deal with rat infestations, and thus a viable weapon for Shredder to wield against Splinter, the Turtles’ rat sensei. In the cartoon series, Stockman also became a human/fly hybrid creature, because Cronenberg’s The Fly was all the rage at the time, but there’s no word yet if that incarnation of Stockman will be on the table in the film. Perry will join Arrow ’s Stephen Amell , recently cast as hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones, as well as returning stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett. It has also been said that Bebop and Rocksteady, mutant fan-favorites from the cartoon, will b...

#StephenAmell Cast In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

Variety is reporting that Stephen Amell has been tapped to play Casey Jones in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2″ for Paramount and Platinum Dunes. Megan Fox is set to return as April O’Neil. Will Arnett is also returning. David Green is directing the pic. Plot details and information on other returning cast members are still unknown. A loner who becomes an ally of the turtles and a love interest for O’Neil, Jones is a fan favorite of the series going back to when Elias Koteas played him in the 1990 New Line pic. Michael Bay is producing along with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are penning the script. Amell tested with a half-dozen actors over the weekend, but it was his chemistry with Fox that led to the studio eventually giving the role to the star of CW’s “Arrow.” Paramount had no comment on the casting. The “Turtles” franchise is one of Paramount’s top properties following its success last summer, when it earned...

Guardians Of The Galaxy Back On Top

Guardians soared once more. Stay seemed to linger reasonably enough, while Sin City suffered a bad time of it, enduring the sort of punishment that feels like you’re being hit in the face by a concrete slab. All in all, an interesting weekend at the US box office. The big winner was Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy , which roared back to the top of the charts after spending a couple of weeks in second place, and that despite being out in theaters for a month now. Clearly audiences were ready for more from Star-Lord and the gang and the space oddities are now enjoying the highest domestic gross for any film at the US box office in 2014 ( Transformers: Age Of Extinction clings to the worldwide top spot like a robot with a locked servo). Guardians took in $17.6 million this weekend, pushing it to $251.8 million in the States and $489.4 million globally. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was pushed down to second place after a couple of weeks at the top, earning $16.8 million this we...

The Expendables 3 Tanks At The Box Office

Lionsgate and Millennium Films' The Expendables 3 opened to a muted $875,000 Thursday night from more than 2,200 locations. While on par with the $870,000 earned by The Expendables and ahead of the $685,000 grossed by the sequel, the threequel rolled out at 7 p.m., compared to midnight for the first two films. To boot, The Weinstein Co. and Walden Media's new YA film adaptation The Giver wasn't far behind, pulling in $750,000. Expendables 3 , featuring a multigenerational lineup of action stars, is expected to take in $20 million to $25 million for the weekend, a series low. In addition to potential franchise fatigue, a pristine copy of the film leaked on the Internet is likely to hurt grosses, much like what happened when X-Men Origins: Wolverine was pirated before its release in 2009. The weekend's other new offerings are the R-rated comedy Let's Be Cops , which got a jump on the competition by opening Wednesday, and The Giver. A trio of specialty films...

Sequel To Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles On It's Way

Paramount is saying "Cowabunga, dude," announcing a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after the movie’s surprising overperformance at the weekend’s box office. The movie is on track to earn $65 million in its opening weekend and $97.3 million worldwide. Screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol , will again brandish nunchuks to write the sequel and will also executive produce. Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will again produce along with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick. It is unclear at this stage whether director Jonathan Liebesman will return to helm the new picture. Paramount has also staked out a release date for the sequel: June 3, 2016. (So far, Sony’s comedy The Sausage Party is on the date.) "Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences ...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Review: Uninspiring Pap Courtesy of Michael Bay

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is uninspiring pap targeted to a much younger people. And that's too bad. WARNING: spoilers ahead For someone who was just a little too old to buy into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when they arrived in the 1990's, I found myself wondering if the newest incarnation would somehow appeal to me. Having never aligned myself with any particular Turtles camp, I could easily see another franchise being added to my 'To-Do List.' Then I read the credits, and three words fill me with dread: Producer. Michael. Bay. Victims of a lab experiment gone wrong (or right?), four box turtles have morphed into six-foot muscle-bound ninjas, aided by their father and lab victim Splinter (voiced by Tony Shalhoub), who keeps them hidden from the public in the sewers under New York City. Michelangelo (Johnny Knoxville), Donatello (Jeremy Howard), Rafael (Alan Ritchson), and Leonardo (Pete Ploszek) are young and impetuous youths whose desire for comba...
