MGM is developing a remake of the 1988 comedy classic “ Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ” with Rebel Wilson attached to star according to Variety . Steve Martin and Michael Caine teamed up in the original “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” which follows two con men trying to swindle a heiress out of her money. The 1988 film was itself a remake of the script for Marlon Brando and David Niven’s 1964 film “Bedtime Story.” The updated remake brings con artistry to the 21st century — two female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, compete to swindle a naive tech prodigy out of his fortune. Wilson is also attached to star in a remake of the Goldie Hawn movie “Private Benjamin.” Roger Birnbaum and Wilson are producing. The former will produce through his Pin High Productions. THR is reporting that Vin Diesel and Chris Tucker are in negotiations to join the growing cast of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk , the adaptation of the Ben Fountain novel being directed by Ang Lee . Newcomer Joe Alwyn is starring as the title character with Steve Martin, Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund in various stages of negotiations to join the roll call. Simon Beaufoy wrote the screenplay telling the story of a 19-year-old private (Alwyn) who survives a battle in Iraq that is captured by news cameras. He and his company of soldiers are brought back to the U.S. for a promotional tour culminating in a halftime show at a Thanksgiving Day football game. Most of the movie takes place during the day of the game, with flashbacks to the wartime events. Diesel will play a professional soldier while Tucker will play a movie producer who is intent on making a movie about the soldiers. Both Diesel and Tucker represent big gets for the movie. Home is cute and cuddly, sure, it's quirky and very bubbly. It's bathed pastels and has a shiny plastic feel. The quick laughs and familiar story should make it easy for the film to endear itself, but its that familiarity that makes it unmemorable and generic.
