BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

New Star Trek TV Series Teaser Trailer

"New villains. New crews. New heroes. New worlds." But not really much news. The first teaser trailer for the new Star Trek TV series has arrived online and, since the show – being run by, among others, Hannibal's Bryan Fuller – is still in its infancy, there were no major announcements. But take a look at the teaser, which flies around the stars, regardless. Fuller and Alex Kurtzman are the executive producers, and the show will also boast the writing (and potentially directing) talents of Nicholas Meyer, the man who helped to bring Star Trek back to life on the big screen with Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan in 1982, wrote 1986's The Voyage Home and then helped send the original crew's movies off with 1991's The Undiscovered Country. No casting details have emerged yet, but those should be following along soon enough. And there has been talk that this will be an anthology series following different ships and crews through their adventures. Which co

But legendary Nicholas Meyer who gave us “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country” and “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” will be involved in consulting-producing and writing capacity. Bryan Fuller is the co-creator and exec-producer and showrunner of CBS’ brand new STAR TREK series which will premiere January 2017. Bryan Fuller To Deliver Star Trek To CBS

Over the past several years, a number of names have been associated with the idea of bringing Star Trek back to television. One of the most bandied about has been Bryan Fuller . Today CBS announced that Fuller will indeed be serving as co-creator and showrunner of the new series set to premiere this January. For executive producer Alex Kurtzman (who produced and co-wrote the first two films in the J.J. Abrams big screen reboot of the franchise) this is exciting news. "Bringing Star Trek back to television means returning it to its roots, and for years those roots flourished under Bryan's devoted care," he says of Fuller, who has previously worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. "His encyclopedic knowledge of Trek canon is surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry's optimistic future; a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds." Fuller, who will remain as co-showrunner of the forthcoming America

USPS STAR TREK 50th Anniversary Stamps Coming Soon

Via Variety The U.S. Postal Service will boldly go where it’s gone only once before. The agency will debut a quartet of “ Star Trek ” stamps honoring the original TV show’s 50th anniversary. The USS Enterprise, the Starship Enterprise inside an outline of a Starfleet insignia, a silhouette of a crew member being beamed up and a Vulcan salute get adhesive as part of the 2016 stamp roster. The classic icons are set against backgrounds mirroring the colors of the characters’ uniforms from the series. The USPS also launched “Star Trek”-themed stamps — worth 33 cents — in 1999 as part of its “Celebrate the Century” initiative. The 2016 counterparts are commemorative “Forever” stamps. “We aren’t Trekkies, but we love the franchise, especially the tone and aesthetic of the original CBS series,” said Jason Kernevich, creative director of The Heads of State, the design team behind the stickies. “As we were working on the art Leonard Nimoy passed, so that created an even stronger conne

#LootCrate Review: July 2015

Can Loot Crate keep up its successful run with July 2015's Heroes2? Read on to find out! Review by Matt Cummings The subscription box Loot Crate has amassed a stellar run recently, having delivered exceptional boxes in March , April , May , and June . But potential problems threaten subscriber support, as the company tries a new upgrade plan that could see their mainstay - the shirt - available only in higher-priced boxes. And while I like July's theme of HEROES 2, the lack of a shirt is a lingering concern. We've noticed that USPS and other carriers are doing a better job delivering the boxes, as this one is missing the usual dents and scratches that plagued earlier deliveries. Upon cracking the case, we see a neat Batman figure but no t-shirt, a real bummer but one almost made up by what looks like a sweet Batman figure. Last month's Tron-inspired Optimus Prime was perhaps one of its best ever, and I was hoping this month for a worthy opponent. Its

Composer James Horner Dies at 61

Busy composer known for Titanic and Star Trek II and III . Story by Matt Cummings Television and film composers don't always get the credit they deserve. Sure, there's a Best Score section at each year's self-congratulatory Oscars; but in many ways music serves as a film's heartbeat, setting the tone that the DP, Cinematographer, or Director establish with their visuals. One of those 'heartbeats' left us tragically on Monday, as we learned of the death of Composer James Horner. The 61 year-old was killed when the single-engine plane he was piloting crashed 60 miles outside of Santa Barbara. Horner composed some of Hollywood's most popular films over the last 30 years - over 100 in all - from Braveheart to Avatar , to Troy and 2012's The Amazing Spider-man . He crafted the memorable score for 1986's Aliens , giving it a militaristic beat which helped elevate that film into every geek's 'Best Ever' list. He took musical

Dark Matter Premieres On SyFy

Creator Joseph Mallozzi Shares A Few Last Minute Thoughts. Story by David Clark For those who do not know, the SyFy channel has made a commitment on going back to the stars. The days of Firefly , Star Trek , Stargate , and Battlestar Galactica seem like a distant memory and SyFy has decided the space epic drought has gone on long enough. Dark Matter, premiering Friday June 12th at 10/9c is the first of many shows SyFy has planned. Written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie as an adaptation of their limited run Dark Matter comic book, Dark Matter is their 10 year vision brought to life. Most well known for their years writing and producing the Stargate universe, Mallozzi and Mullie had no idea how long the wait would be for Dark Matter to finally take a place on television programming. Revealed in an exclusive interview with Blastr, their original plan was to transition straight from Stargate into Dark Matter. Quickly they learned pitching a new and unknown int

Third Star Trek Will Feature An Original Villain

Enterprise to face The Wrath of New Guy. By Brandon Wolfe With Simon Pegg writing at warp speed to finish the script for the third Star Trek film in time for its impending June start date, the actor/screenwriter has taken a quick breather to inform MTV that Idris Elba’s mystery villain will not be a familiar face from existing Trek lore, dodging the Khan issue that plagued Star Trek Into Darkness . "It will be [an original character], yes,” says Pegg. “This is the five-year mission now, we're out there. We don't always have to keep bumping into the same people…So we're gonna try and reflect that in the movie." Pegg also reiterates that the script, which is being co-written by Doug Jung, will hew much closer to the feel of the original series than the previous J.J. Abrams films have thus far. "We can invest in it the spirit of the show and get back to the essence of what it is, and so what we're hoping to do is make a Star Trek for today t

Custom Fan Box: Review: April 2015

Our subscription box reviews continue with Custom Fan Box. Review by Matt Cummings Subscription boxes - the monthly subscription service - are all the rage these days: you can go with the standard themes behind Loot Crate, choose a clothing line, and even get a little kinky from Unbound . While I haven't partaken of the latter, I have gotten deep into several geek boxes. This time, it's the new service from Pop-Up Tee's Custom Fan Box. Here's the deal: you choose the single month plan - that's all the choices you're given - and then select from a variety of radial boxes broken down into categories like favorite movies, television, etc. You're also asked to choose a shirt size, which doesn't appear to be the case for May's offering. That one asks you for a shoe size. But we're worried about April, and so here's the breakdown of Custom Fan Box's inaugural offering. First, let's be clear about expectations: you're pr

And the Newest Green Lantern Could Be...

Read on to learn who might be donning the Emerald Knight's clothes for Warner Bros. Story by Matt Cummings Actor Ryan Reynolds has had one of those careers that's always been filled with promise but whose resume reads like rollercoaster. Waiting , Safe House ? Yes. Green Lantern , R.I.P.D. , and X-Men Origins: Wolverine ? Not so much. But with Deadpool less than a year away for 20th Century Fox, perhaps he's found that role , the one for which audiences will forever identity him. Therefore, it goes without saying that Warner Bros. Studios would be searching for a new leading man to portray The Emerald Knight. It appears that rumor mill has begun to churn, and it seems like a familiar name might be in play. According to Latino Review's Humberto Gonzalez, it appears that Actor Chris Pine ( Star Trek reboots, Into the Woods ) is in the running to play Hal Jordan. This is the first time that a name and version of the character have been announced as

In Memoriam: Leonard Nimoy

His work influenced millions of Science-Fiction fans. Story by Matt Cummings There's few actors that are tied so closely to just one character: Leonard Nimoy was one such phenomenon, forever linked to his role as Mr. Spock on television's Star Trek: The Original Series . Is there a gesture more remembered and used that Nimoy's "Live Long and Prosper?" Not likely. And how about that cool disposition that so many have tried (and frankly failed) to mimic? Nimoy's death on Friday at age 83 wasn't unexpected, as he had been sick for quite some time. But, the outpouring of support in the wake has been nothing but extraordinary. Everyone from Seth MacFarlane, Patrick Stewart, and even Author JK Rowling chimed in today to pay their respects. But when the President of the United States releases a statement saying, "I loved Spock," you know his effect was widespread. When Twitter explodes with Tweets from dozens of other celebrities w

Stargate Is Back

Read The Latest News Regarding The Beloved Franchise Story by David Clark In 1994 a movie named Stargate was released that was almost immediately considered a success; however, nobody dreamed of how far that movie would go. In the two decades following the release a franchise was born that consisted of cartoons, comics, books, movies, and television shows. Now, 20 years after the release of the original movie, Stargate is being infused with new life in the form of a reboot. The original concept and screenwriting for the 1994 Stargate movie was done by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin . For those that do not know these two individuals they have spent time in the industry as actors, writers, producers, and directors who most recently were in the news for the successful greenlight on the upcoming Independence Day sequel. In an interview with Devlin he expressed excitement at the opportunity for improving the vision of the franchise while adding to the storied legacy that
