SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski ( James Marsden ). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik ( Jim Carrey ) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. For years we've been told that Sega's iconic Sonic The Hedgehog would be the subject of a big-budget movie, but only now is it seemingly coming together. And the latest twist? Jim Carrey 's making a deal to play the villainous Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. With Jeff Fowler in the director's chair and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter already in the cast, the film will use a blend of live-action and CG to bring Pat Casey and Josh Miller's story to life, one that appears to channel the usual conflict between the speedy Sonic and the evil scientist who is once again bent on world domination.
