Pixar's latest, a long-awaited sequel to one of its most popular and best movies, is proving to be... what's the word... it's not coming to us... Really amazing at the Stateside box office. Incredibles 2 soared, blasting past expectations for $180 million, according to studio estimates. And elsewhere in the world, it was a similar story. While the movie, which picks up the story the moment the 2004 original ends, hasn't opened in all of its international markets yet, it still earned $51.5 million for a $231.5 million global launch. Records were predictably shattered, with the new movie outselling the previously top animated opening, Finding Dory . We doubt Disney and Pixar are too upset. Ocean's 8 was knocked down to second place on $19.5 million, while the second new arrival of the week, comedy pic Tag couldn't quite reach the heights of the animated hit. Dinosaurs might be roaring across screens elsewhere in the world, but in the United States, the heist crew of Ocean's 8 were the ones making noise at the box office. The Ocean's sequel/spin-off earned a studio-estimated $41.5 million to nab first position this weekend. The movie, which sees Sandra Bullock as Debbie, the sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean executing a heist of her own, has so far made $53.7 million and will be rolling out across the world this month. The new arrival pushed Solo: A Star Wars Story into second place, with Han and co. earning $15.1 million. This latest stand-alone is still struggling to fill seats, and has so far made $176.1 million in the US, way below its studio stablemates. Deadpool 2 slipped to third with $13.6 million. Given the response to most of the recent Star Wars releases, Disney and Lucasfilm could be forgiven for expecting big things for Solo. But a combination of production wobbles, mixed (though usually weighted towards positive) reviews and seeming fatigue for the franchise as a whole meant that the latest anthology offering kicked off its (Kessel) run at the box office with what the studio will view as a disappointing $103 million across the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Of course, opening above $100 million is hardly a flop, but the movie's pricey production cost and the sheer level of expectation mean this represents an underperformance. It didn't help that the movie also couldn't quite take off at the international box office either, with a worldwide total currently standing at an estimated $168 million. Lucasfilm and Star Wars: Force for Change today announced Roar For Change , a global challenge in support of UNICEF. The initiative invites fans and families to share their own version of Chewbacca’s iconic roar. For each public post, like, or share on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that includes #RoarForChange between May 3 - 25, 2018, Star Wars: Force for Change U.S. will donate $1 to UNICEF USA, up to $1 million. Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Favreau is no stranger to the Star Wars galaxy having played roles in both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story . “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.” Favreau is thrilled to be returning to the Star Wars galaxy: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you.

While we were originally supposed to get Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, the usual week after Britain and some other countries, the studio has now decided to bring the global release forward to 27 April. Staged as a Twitter chat between the company and one of the film's stars ( Robert Downey Jr. ), the exchanged served as confirmation that the film will be on the move. Still, the move makes sense for Marvel and corporate bosses Disney, because it means there is more time for Infinity War to grab audience eyes and ticket sales before another Mouse House division, Lucasfilm, releases Solo: A Star Wars Story , due to arrive on 25 May. Infinity War, of course, finds Thanos ( Josh Brolin ) deciding to finally obtain the Infinity Stones for himself, putting him up against the assembled might of the Avengers, the Guardians Of The Galaxy, the Black Panther and a variety of heroes.
