Stephen King's The Stand To Become Miniseries and Feature Film

By Brandon Wolfe While the film version of Stephen King’s It may have recently fallen apart, the adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic magnum opus The Stand is still going strong. The Fault in Our Stars ’ Josh Boone is still set to direct the adaptation, which he has said in the past he wanted to make into several films to do proper justice to the unusually lengthy novel. However, the plan has changed, as it has now been reported that The Stand will be adapted into an eight-episode miniseries for Showtime, which will then culminate in a theatrical film. Stephen King fans might feel a sense of déjà vu here, as this was initially the plan for the proposed adaptation of the author’s Dark Tower series before that project fell apart. It is certainly an ambitious plan, since it requires a lot of extracurricular work from moviegoers, many of whom might not even have Showtime (presumably, the film itself will function as a stand-alone so as not to alienat...

It's Showtime for big-screen star Paul Bettany . The film actor, whose credits include Priest, The Tourist and Iron Man 2 , has been tapped to play sex education researcher William Masters in the Showtime drama Masters of Sex . The drama, from Sony Pictures Television, revolves around influential sexual education researchers Masters and Virginia Johnson and is being written by The Pacific's Michelle Ashford. For Bettany, the project marks his first U.S. television commitment following a long feature career that has included roles in Wimbledon and A Beautiful Mind. Masters of Sex was one of three pilots greenlit in August under new entertainment chief David Nevins. Showtime & Antoine Fuqua To Deliver Suge Knight Film

Just weeks after Showtime bowed its Paul McCartney documentary, the premium cable network is delving into another music-themed effort with Suge Knight . Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua will direct and produce the tentatively titled project based on the life and exploits of the Death Row Records co-founder. Black Swan’s Bradley J. Fischer will produce alongside Fuqua. Claire Danes Finds A Home At Showtime Claire Danes has officially signed on in the lead role of Showtime pilot Homeland , the network announced Thursday. The Emmy winner will play a driven CIA officer in the pilot, loosely based on the Israeli television series " Prisoners of War ." The actress, who recently won an Emmy for HBO's Temple Grandin , centers on an American solder taken captive during an invasion in Iraq in 2003, but returns to the U.S. after years in hiding. Danes will play Carrie Anderson, a driven CIA officer fighting psychological demons and is convinced the intelligence that led to a soldier's recapture was a setup. Homeland comes from Howard Gordon (24), who serves as executive producer along with Alex Gansa (24, The X-Files), and is loosely based on the Israeli television series Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff.
