BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

SPIRAL from the book of SAW Teaser Trailer & Poster

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL , the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW . Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran ( Samuel L. Jackson ), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks ( Chris Rock ) and his rookie partner ( Max Minghella ) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game. SPIRAL stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson, and is produced by the original SAW team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger. Chris Rock To Reboot The Saw Films

When you think of Chris Rock , you don’t think of horror. You think of his turn in Dogma, or the zebra from Madagascar, or his time on SNL. But bodies ripping apart? Elaborate death traps? Cycling puppets? Not so much. But soon those will be exactly what you associate Rock with – the man is planning a fresh batch of Saw films, which he’ll cook up Lionsgate for an October 2020 release. “I’ve been a fan of ‘Saw’ since the first film in 2004,” Rock said of the horror saga originated by James Wan. “I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.” Joe Drake, Lionsgate chairman, sounds particularly enthused about the direction Rock has in mind. “When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in,” he said. “Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand wit

Saw: Legacy Could Be Coming Soon

After seven installments, the trap-happy Saw franchise finally drew to a close in 2010 with its 3D Final Chapter . Since then there have been regular whispering of what studio Lionsgate might be planning to do with the property: the assumption being that, while it had run its initial course, there was still some sort of life in the series. Pitches have come and gone, but six years on, Saw 8 (or VIII, if you prefer) is now officially in development. It has a title - Saw: Legacy - and a pair of screenwriters in the Piranha films' Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. Saw , of course, began in 2004 with James Wan's now classic, self-contained, low-budget ordeal. Not an obvious candidate to spawn six sequels, it nevertheless managed just that, with writer Leigh Whannell continuing through the next two, and Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan picking up the story for the rest. Darren Lynn Bousman directed parts II, III and IV, production designer David Hackl did V, and Kevin Greu

#Unfriended Arrives On Blu-ray August 11th

Unfriended is a startlingly contemporary nail-biter from two modern masters of mayhem, executive producer Jason Blum (The Purge, Ouija, Sinister) and producer Timur Bekmambetov (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Wanted). What starts as a seemingly innocent online prank produces a sequence of events that spirals out of control. D

Movie Review: Unfriended

Where's my Dislike button? Review by Brandon Wolfe The runaway success of Paranormal Activity was the point where the found-footage format crossed over into the mainstream ( The Blair Witch Project was obviously the subgenre’s first hit, but it spent the decade following its release as a one-off curio rather than a trendsetter), spearheading the opportunity for filmmakers to crank out cost-effective horror films that didn’t require slick production values or expensive equipment. They could be produced with recording devices you could get at Best Buy and were expected, even encouraged, to look like they were shot by shaky-handed amateurs. Given its low-overhead accessibility, the subgenre has become so ubiquitous that filmmakers are now having to figure out ways to make the achingly familiar seem new again. So instead of horror films shot on consumer-based cameras, how about one shot entirely on Skype? That’s something new, yes? Unfriended sure wants you to think it is.

Saw Writers "Recalibrating" Halloween

Michael Myers is in the shop for a recalibration. By Brandon Wolfe The Hollywood Reporter is Hollywood reporting that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, writers of the final four (so far) installments in the Saw series, have been hired to write the script for what is being called a "recalibration" of the Halloween franchise. Malek Akkad, son of longtime Halloween executive producer Moustapha Akkad, will be producing along with Matt Stein. The big question here, obviously, is what in God's holy name does "recalibration" mean? One would think it's simply a sly way to say "reboot" without using that tired old chestnut, but Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that the film will be neither a remake of the original classic nor a sequel to Rob Zombie's reboot films from 2007 and 2009 (it will also not be produced in 3D, as previously rumored). Unless it's a new installment in the previous, pre-Zombie timeline, that doesn't leave mu

Insidious Trailer

If you were creeped out by Paranormal Activity and freaked out by Saw , wait'll you see what the guys behind those two franchises cooked up when they got together. I'm not a huge scary movie type of person but I do love a horror film that make you think. Here's your first look at  Insidious courtesy of SyFy . Insidious, which stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Barbara Hershey , is a new horror film from Saw's director-writer team of James Wan and Leigh Whannell that's produced by Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, the masterminds behind Paranormal Activity. Watch the trailer after the Jump... The movie tells a different kind of haunted-house story, one in which a family trying to escape a haunting and save their son discover—it's their son, and not their house, that's being haunted. Insidious hits theaters April 1, 2011. And after you watch the trailer below, check out the film's Facebook page for more info. Please Leave A Comme

Graphic Novel "Nightfall" Finds It's Director

Graphic Novel "Nightfall" Gets Its Man James Wan , who co-created and directed the original Saw , has been set to direct Nightfall , the film adaptation of the graphic novel. The film is a coproduction between Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s Platinum Studios and William Stuart’s Aurora Productions. The premise: a man is sentenced to time in a prison run by vampires. The graphic novel was published in 2007 and written and created by Scott O. Brown with art by Ferran Xalabarder. Wan will oversee the development of a script. His latest film, Insidious , plays in the Midnight Madness program at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. “The minute I heard the concept, I was in, Wan said. “Reading the graphic novel cemented that. Like Saw, it’s a simple concept that, if executed properly, will be so cool." Said Platinum’s Rosenberg: “James’ experience crafting the contained horror in Saw will be a big help in his informing the visual experience of Nightfall.” Please Leave A

Saw Franchise Coming To An End

Saw Franchise Coming To An End Looks like a franchise is going to becoming to an end. About time I feel that the first 3 films were great and a great concept of horror films and now they just seem repetitive and are just stretching the story. They good guys over at Latino Review talked to Melton: "I think it's going to end with Saw VII. I have a very strong feeling its going to end with Saw VII. That's something we're debating now. You saw in previous interviews or discussions where we thought Saw VIII would be the last one where we had the first trilogy and the second trilogy and then sort of a grand finale wrapped up in two films. But frankly because Saw VI hasn't performed as well as we anticipated, the idea is well why make two movies when we can make one really excellent movie that wraps up as best we can? And it's going to be in 3-D which sort of adds to the spectacle. So if you had to ask me, I don't own the franchise, nor do I run the studio, but

Paranormal Activity 2 Found It's Director

Paranormal Activity 2 Found It's Director Paramount has hired screenwriter Michael R. Perry and director Kevin Greutert to create the sequel to 2009’s biggest surprise hit, “Paranormal Activity,” which scared up $151 million in worldwide grosses in the fall on a shoestring $15,000 budget and a shrewd, opt-in Web marketing campaign. Significantly, Paramount will unleash it in theaters on the pre-Halloween weekend of October 22, which sets it against that date’s reigning champion in previous years, the next installment in Lionsgate’s “Saw” series (this year would be “VII”). In a symbolic twist, Greutert made his directorial debut on the sixth “Saw” film, which grossed just $31 million worldwide, with observers thinking that the franchise may be bleeding dry. Jason Blum and Oren Peli, who masterminded the first “Activity,” are producing the second iteration. Steven Schneider will serve as executive producer. “These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed,” said Peli of Perry
