BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Split Stays On Top Of The Box Office

Though horror has had a recent history of performing well in February box office berths, new scare reboot Rings didn't factor in the enduring popularity of M. Night Shyamalan's Split , which stayed nestled at the top of the US charts for the third week in a row, earning $14.15 million across the Super Bowl weekend. The movie has now earned an impressive $98.7 million in the States alone, and passed $142 million worldwide, which is a great result for a movie that cost an estimated $9 million to make (before ads etc). As for Rings , the attempt to breathe new life into the J-horror adaptation was shock-blocked in the final tally, earning $13 million for its first weekend of release. A Dog's Purpose was bumped to third, adding $10.8 million, while Hidden Figures slipped one place to fourth on $10.1 million. Rounding out the top five, and staying in place for another week is Oscar favorite La La Land , enjoying a boosted screen count and plenty of interest. It took home $

Movie Review: Rings

You'll be bored of the Rings. Review by Brandon Wolfe Samara Morgan, the demonic, well-dwelling little girl with a face constantly obscured by wet, black hair, never really got her fair shake as an American horror icon. Introduced in 2002’s The Ring —a remake of the Japanese horror hit Ringu and one of the rare American remakes to vastly surpass the quality of its progenitor—Samara seemed destined to ride that film’s huge success into the big leagues of franchised horror. She had a unique look and a terrific gimmick, and therefore met the basic standards for admission into the genre’s rogues’ gallery. Yet apart from a single sequel (2005’s wholly forgettable The Ring Two ), Samara found herself left behind, stuck down in the dank well of forgotten would-be franchises. The Johnny-come-lately third sequel Rings finally dusts Samara off and puts her back into play, but with the lingering sense that her moment has passed and cannot be reclaimed. After all, vengeful she-wraiths

"The Ring” Sequel “Rings” Gets Pushed Back

Variety is reporting “ The Ring ” sequel “ Rings ” is getting a new release date. Paramount Pictures is pushing back the third film in the horror series from its Nov. 13 debut. It will now launch in 2016, most likely in the first quarter of the year, although a specific release date has yet to be set. The move comes after Paramount moved the start of “The Big Short,” Adam McKay’s adaptation of the Michael Lewis bestseller, into this calendar year and opted to bow Charlie Kaufman’s “Anomalisa” in an Oscar qualifying run at the end of December. In its old date, “Rings” would have faced off against the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt drama “By the Sea,” the Chilean miners drama “The 33” and the comedy “Love the Coopers.” “Rings” is directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez (“Before the Fall”) and stars newcomers Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe , as well as “The Big Bang Theory’s” Johnny Galecki . Previously titled “ The Ring 3D ,” its the first installment in the series about a cursed video tape t

Paramount sets dates for The Ring, Paranormal Activity and Friday the 13th Sequels

Three spooky sequels find new release dates. By Brandon Wolfe Paramount has shuffled its horror-movie deck as it has set new dates for three upcoming sequels, according to Variety . First up is the second sequel to 2002’s The Ring , carrying the Cameron-esque title Rings , which will bow on November 13, more than a decade after the release of the previous installment, 2005’s abysmal The Ring Two . The other two films, both of which are being pushed back significantly, are Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension , which is moving from March 13 to October 23 (the date recently vacated by the Conjuring sequel), and the latest reboot attempt for Friday the 13th , bumped from November 13 to May 13 (which still affords it a release date on a Friday the 13th). This move isn’t surprising for the sixth Paranormal Activity , which seemed unlikely to make that rapidly approaching March date due to the complete lack of any form of promotion thus far. October is the franchise’s home b
