Universal Wants To Get Their Hands On "Oblivion" & Have Tom Cruise Star

Universal Pictures has emerged as the front-runner to finance and distribute Oblivion , the Joseph Kosinski-directed sci-fi project that has Tom Cruise in early talks to star. The studio has entered into exclusive negotiations for a deal that would carry progress to production language, with a goal to begin shooting in October. The deal hinges on Kosinski's ability to bring in the film at around the $100 million mark. Cruise doesn't have a deal at this point, but they are talking. Deadline told you last week that Universal was among three studios chasing the film. The film was scripted by William Monahan, with Karl Gajdusek currently rewriting. Oblivion recently shook loose from Disney, where Kosinski made his feature directorial debut on Tron: Legacy. That film just hit the $400 million worldwide gross mark for Disney, and the studio has a Tron sequel and other projects with Kosinski. Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion Retitled Horizons

Karl Gajdusek , the scribe who wrote the upcoming Nicole Kidman - Nicolas Cage thriller Trespass , has been tapped for rewrite duties on Disney's Joseph Kosinski  (Tron: Legacy) project Horizons , formerly known as Oblivion . Kosinski, the helmer behind Tron Legacy, came up with the concept for Horizons, a sci-fi actionner centering on a soldier assigned to patrol a desolate planet who meets a mysterious traveler, teaming up with Radical Pictures, the movie arm of graphic novel house Radical Publishing. Late last summer, the project was picked up by Disney, who quickly set William Monahan, the Oscar-winning scribe behind The Departed and Kingdom of Heaven, to write a draft. Kosinski, Barry Levine, and Jeffrey Silver are producing the pic, which is a high priority as the studio. Gajdusek, repped by Verve and Benderspink, worked on Warner Bros.' Sam Raimi Attached To A Sci-Fi Wyatt Earp Film Just in time for Comic-Con, Sam Raimi is attached to helm and produce a pic based on graphic novel " Earp: Saints for Sinners " for DreamWorks, Radical Studios, Mandeville and Raimi's Star Road Entertainment. " Earp: Saints for Sinners " is a modern-day re-imagining of Western hero Wyatt Earp fighting outlaws in a ravaged society where the only boomtown left is Las Vegas. " Earp " was created by Matt Cirulnick and Mandeville Films' David Manpearl, and written by Cirulnick and Zachary Sherman. Cirulnick will adapt and exec produce along with Radical exec VP Jesse Berger and Manpearl. Cirulnick will unveil artwork and story details at Radical's panel at Comic-Con on Thursday. Howard And Grazer To Adapt "Legends" Graphic Novel Classic fairy tales are drawing Hollywood heat, with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment and Radical Pictures the latest to work their magic. The two are teaming to develop for the big screen “ Legends ,” a graphic novel from Radical’s publishing arm that brings together such characters as Red Riding Hood, Jack the Giant Killer and Hansel & Gretel in a dark fantasy setting. The story in “Legends ” is set in motion when the remains of Pinocchio are discovered. Red Hood , now a noted wolf hunter, and Jack partner to discover who is murdering the creatures of folklore. Along the way, they are assisted by characters such as Goldilocks , re-imagined as a mercenary, and Hansel & Gretel , now psychic exterminators.
