The ape planet goes to war. By Brandon Wolfe The third installment in Fox’s updated Planet of the Apes series has been given a title : War of the Planet of the Apes . Not anything too surprising, yet still fitting. Still, it's a bit awkward (maybe War FOR the Planet of the Apes might be better?), but this series, while great in every other way, has always contended with clunky titles (overuse of “of the”; “Rise” and “Dawn” meaning the same thing). Why should this one be any different? War of the Planet of the Apes , which will again be directed by Dawn ’s Matt Reeves, is set to open July 14, 2017. While it has been picking up speed thanks to the casting of Channing Tatum in the lead, 20th Century Fox’s planned new Gambit spin-off film has now locked in a release date – for the States at least – pencilling in an October 7, 2016 slot. And that’s despite the film still lacking a confirmed director – presumably we can expect that announcement any day now. Few details have emerged about the film thus far, though Tatum has described how he sees the character: “Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.” There is still talk he may actually first be seen in X-Men: Apocalypse , though it could just be a brief cameo. It’s just one of a batch of announcements from Fox about their upcoming slate, which also includes word that the third Planet Of The Apes film (to be directed by Dawn’s Matt Reeves) has switched places with the company’s second new Fantastic Four film.

Rise Of The Apes First Look A prequel to the original 1968 Planet of the Apes . The film will be directed by Rupert Wyatt and will be released on June 24, 2011. Unlike previous films in the series, the apes in the film will be created digitally using CGI technology. The photo below shows us James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis filming a scene from the movie. Serkis is playing an ape in the film which is why he's sporting the motion capture suit. This will be the second time he's played a monkey in a movie, the first was for Peter Jackson's King Kong. James Franco is set to play a scientist working on a cure for Alzheimer's by testing on apes. When test subject Caesar suddenly begins to rapidly evolve, the scientist takes him home to remove him from the cruel lab doctors. James Franco To Become An Ape James Franco has his damn dirty paws on the lead role in “ Rise of the Apes ,” Fox’s prequel to its “Planet of the Apes” franchise. Rupert Wyatt is on board to direct the feature project, which focuses on a scientist (Franco) who has been working on a cure for Alzheimer's that is being tested on apes. The test subject named Caesar starts to evolve rapidly, and the scientist takes him home to live with him and protects him from cruel doctors. The story is designed to be show the modern-day event that set in motion the eventual dominance of apes over humans seen the classic 1960s and '70s movies. It is unclear how much of the movie will focus on the ape inciting an ape revolution, but given that effects company WETA is on board, the monkey play could be significant. The apes will not be actors in costumes but rather rendered digitally to be photo-realistic by WETA, employing certain of the groundbreaking technologies developed for “Avatar.”

In fact, insiders familiar with the situation insist the studio is now more determined than ever to make the film, albeit with different DNA: The Apes have been handed to none other than Peter Chernin, who last summer exited his post as top banana of News Corporation to become a producer at Fox. The Internet rumors of the reboot's demise likely germinated when it was discovered that all-star writer Scott Frank had left the project, an origin story showing just how the apes became so smart. Frank was also supposed to direct the film for producer Scott Rudin, and because Frank had crafted the scripts for such Fox hits as Minority Report and Marley & Me, it’s easy to see how his departure might be misconstrued as the studio’s loss of interest in the project.
