The Hangover Part II Breaks Records

Shattering numerous records, Warner Bros.’ The Hangover Part II grossed $137.4 million in its five-day launch at the domestic box office. The sequel helped fuel the best Memorial Day weekend on record, and grabbed the best opening ever for a comedy, R-rated or otherwise. Overseas, Hangover opened to $60.3 million from 40 countries--thee times higher than the first Hangover and bringing the sequel's global bow to almost $200 million. Hangover grossed $16.7 million in the U.K., the best ever launch for a U.S. comedy, as well as the top opening of 2011, while it earned $11.9 milion in Australia. DreamWorks Animation and Paramount’s 3D toon Kung Fu Panda 2 also contributed to the boom, grossing roughly $67 million in its first five days (like Hangover, Panda opened on Thursday). Can Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Over Come The 4th Curse?

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is crashing into theaters, and already has its work cut out for it: the last three films in the franchise were profitable, although the third got mixed reviews compared to the first two. But if history is any indication, On Stranger Tides has more to overcome: the fourth film in a sci-fi series has a long tradition of bombing, sometimes so hard that it blows up the entire franchise . Here are 7 "fourth films" that brought their franchises to a new low. Batman & Robin Before Christopher Nolan took Batman to lofty heights with his series reboot, Batman was the star of several successful movies in the late 20th century. Batman, Batman Returns, and Batman Forever were received well both critically and at the box office, it was a no-brainer for Warner Bros. to commission a fourth film. Joel Schumacher was selected as director for his excellent work in Batman Forever. So everything looked like it was going smoothly. Warner Bro

Hughes Brothers Turned Down Pirates of the Caribbean & Lone Ranger

Hughes Brothers Turned Down Pirates of the Caribbean & Lone Ranger What a mistake, in my opinion I guess if the shoe doesn't fit don't wear it. The brothers haven't had a hit since Menace To Society and Dead Presidents but I do have my fingers crossed with their up coming film The Book Of Eli. Nearly a decade passed between films for Albert and Allen Hughes—2001's "From Hell" to next week's "Book of Eli"—but don't think for a second the twin brothers weren't busy. They pursued a bunch of different Hollywood projects, and were pursued for many more. Two such films, as MTV News has exclusively learned, were mammoth Disney productions. The Hughes brothers were approached to direct both "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "The Lone Ranger." Once Gore Verbinksi dropped out of the "Pirates" franchise in April after directing the first three films and before Rob Marshall signed on, the Hughes broth

Jerry Bruckheimer Talks Pirates 4

Jerry Bruckheimer Talks Pirates 4 Collider got their hand on Jerry Bruckheimer and asked him three important questions about Pirates of the Caribbean 4. I asked what’s up with the script, when are they going to shoot the film, and did the regime change cause any problems. He told me they’ve gotten the script, the management change will not affect the production, and he believes they’ll be filming next year. Of course things change along the way, but the way he spoke to me about the project, I believe the Black Pearl is going to be looking for the Fountain of Youth quite soon. Details on "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"

Details on "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" This Most have been amazing to see Johnny Depp come out all dressed up as Jack Sparrow. This will be one of those I wish I was there moment. Depp was welcomed with raucous applause as he sailed onstage in a pirate ship dressed as Capt. Jack Sparrow. He staggered about and embraced Cook, who announced that "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" would be released in the summer of 2011. Depp will also play Tonto in a big-screen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," Cook said. Burton showed footage from his 3-D take on "Alice in Wonderland," which stars Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. "I've always loved the imagery" of the Lewis Carroll story, Burton said, and the opportunity to tell it in 3-D seemed "trippy and great." Cook announced another Burton-Disney project: The studio will release a feature-length version of Burton's animat
