Rather than have the suit leak via some awful pap pictures on set, all badly handled lighting and weird details showing up, The Batman's director Matt Reeves has chosen instead to go the arty, camera test route to show off what Robert Pattinson looks like in the gear. The Batman will be Reeves (and co-writer Mattson Tomlin) take on the iconic DC character, though the plot is mostly a mystery for now (if they keep to the idea of Bats as a detective, it should be a mystery anyway but... yeah, we'll stop). The Batman has found its Penguin. Colin Farrell is in talks to play the DC villain, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Filmmaker Matt Reeves is behind The Batman , which stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, with other actors including Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Batman ally Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Danny DeVito previously played The Penguin in Tim Burton's 1992 film, Batman Returns, while Burgess Meredith portrayed him in the 1960s Batman TV series and Robin Lord Taylor played a younger version of the character on Fox's Gotham. The Penguin, also known as Oswald Cobblepot, first debuted in the comics in 1941's Detective Comics No. 58 and was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Gil Kane. Variety is reporting “Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman , the antiheroine and sometime love interest of the Caped Crusader, in Matt Reeves ’ upcoming “ The Batman .” Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman. Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters June 25, 2021. Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, took over “Batman” directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017. Affleck departed his role as Batman following “Justice League,” allowing Reeves to pick his own Bruce Wayne. Reeves’ “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark will produce. By: April Meneghetti Matt Reeves has closed a deal to direct “ The Batman .” Reeves took over the reins as director after Ben Affleck stepped aside to focus on starring as the Caped Crusader. Reeves will also produce the movie. News broke last week that negotiations had collapsed, but that there was a strong possibility that they could resume. WB had offered Reeves the directing gig two weeks ago after Affleck exited the film. Sources stressed last week that it was a priority for the studio to sign a helmer as soon as possible in order to move the pre-production forward. “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child,” Reeves said. “He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.” Reeves, Affleck, and the studio can now focus on moving the film into production and begin casting. "It has begun," says director Matt Reeves . And with that, comes a tweet of the first ever image from War For The Planet Of The Apes. It's a figure riding a horse on a beach. We've seen that before somewhere... The original Apes saw Charlton Heston's Taylor arriving in similarly equestrian fashion on a similar shoreline to make an extraordinary discovery. Chronologically that film took place after the events of Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes and Battle For The Planet Of The Apes , kind of the stories that Dawn and Rise recently reworked. THR is reporting Woody Harrelson has nabbed one of the leading human roles in Fox’s latest Planet of the Apes installment. Matt Reeves , who directed 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes , has returned as helmer for the new project, which is titled War for the Planet of the Apes . Mark Bomback also is back as screenwriter and Chernin Entertainment as the producer. Dylan Clark is also producing. It is unclear who is returning to the new movie, which will continue the story of Caesar, the evolved ape who is brought to life via motion capture by Andy Serkis . Plot details are being kept secret, but Harrelson will play a character called the Colonel. It was recently reported that Gabriel Chavarria would play one of the new characters, but insiders say his part is small. Harrelson is currently shooting LBJ, starring as President Lyndon B. Not anything too surprising, yet still fitting. Still, it's a bit awkward (maybe War FOR the Planet of the Apes might be better?), but this series, while great in every other way, has always contended with clunky titles (overuse of “of the”; “Rise” and “Dawn” meaning the same thing). Why should this one be any different? War of the Planet of the Apes , which will again be directed by Dawn ’s Matt Reeves, is set to open July 14, 2017.
