Mark Millar's "Empress" Heading To The Big Screen

THR is reporting Mark Millar 's " Empress" will becoming to the big screen soon. The comic, co-created and drawn by Stuart Immonen, centers on the wife of a galactic dictator (a la Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon) who makes the decision to leave her evil husband and take her three kids with her. With the aid of a bodyguard, she escapes with her brood — Aine, her 15-year-old daughter who wants to be with her father; Adam, her gentle soul of a 10-year-old son who she knows would not survive the trials ahead to be an elite ruler; and Puck, her 18-month-old — to her home world. But the dictator husband, with armies at his disposal, isn’t going to let her go without a fight. F. Scott Frazier, who wrote the script for  xXx: The Return of Xander Cage , the Vin Diesel action vehicle currently in production, has been tapped to pen the script for Empress. The first issue, published by Marvel’s creator-owned Icon imprint, was a sell-out when it debuted in April. Issue

Do You Care For Another Kick-Ass Movie?

Mark Millar , whose comic books were the basis for this franchise is uncertain about the possibility of the third installment.. “With “ Kick-Ass ,” it was a no brainer. It was made for $28 million and made $100 million back and then made another $140 million on DVD. So for the money guys, it was a $28 million investment that made $240 million. That’s a slam dunk. You’re getting your sequel. The second one didn’t make as much. It cost a little less at around $24 million, made $61 million and made about $100 million again on DVD and TV rights. It was still profitable. It was by no means “ The Lone Ranger .” But does that mean we’ll make another one again? I don’t know. It’s definitely up in the air, and we’ll just have to see. Matthew is a guy who I trust to make that decision. If he decides he does want to do it, I know he’ll get it done well. And he’s got the movie rights, so it’s ultimately his decision. I speak to Matthew every day, and we haven’t discussed “Kick-Ass 3″ so who kn

Joe Carnahan All In For Mark Millar's Nemesis

Earlier this week, Mark Millar revealed that work was still ongoing with the big screen adaptation of his and Steve McNiven's Nemesis , and the wriiter has now confirmed (via the Millarworld Forums ) that Joe Carnahan will indeed direct and write the screenplay alongside his brother Matthew. The former was recently in the running to helm a 1970s set Daredevil movie for Fox, but issues with the rights now means that that will not be happening. With any luck, that bad news for fans of the "Man Without Fear" will be good news for fans of Nemesis. As you can see from the comments below, there's currently no word on casting, although it definitely sounds as if we should expect to see Liam Neeson as Det. Blake Morrow if talks end up working out. "Shot straight from a wedding in Manchester last week to the City of Angels and plunged straight into some studio biz on the Nemesis movie. Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew)

Mark Millar To Oversee Marvel Franchise For Fox

20th Century Fox has inked a deal with comics-world guru Mark Millar to serve as a creative consultant on the studio’s projects based on Marvel Comics properties . Millar wrote several lauded Marvel comic books such as The Ultimates, Civil War and Wolverine: Old Man Logan before moving on to found Millarworld (millarworld.tv), where he continues to develop existing film franchise titles Wanted and Kick-Ass as well as newer comic properties Nemesis -- which was being developed at Fox as a Tony Scott directing vehicle -- The Secret Service and Superior . “In addition to his groundbreaking Marvel work, Mark is simply one of the most original voices in comics today and will be an invaluable resource to us and to our filmmakers as we look for fresh opportunities to innovate within our shared Marvel universe," Fox production president Emma Watts said. Millar will work with Fox on developing new avenues for its tentpole X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises. The studio's

Director Bekmambetov Talks Wanted 2

For a while now, the sequel to  Mark Millar  comic adaptation Wanted has been seemingly lost in limbo, unable to find its way as director Timur Bekmambetov concentrated on other projects. But now, according to the director himself, it has stepped up a gear thanks to some new plot ideas. Speaking with The Playlist , Bekmambetov revealed that things are still very much moving forward on the film. "An unbelievable thing happened three weeks ago," Bekmambetov says. "Because we stopped, we didn't know what to do for three or four years. Three weeks ago I came up with a great idea and I pitched this idea and everybody fell in love with it. And now I think we're on track. Right now the writer is working on the script, and it will be shocking." Shocking, eh? Well, that would only be fair for a sequel to a film that deployed crazed action set pieces, had Morgan Freeman swearing like he’s Samuel L Jackson and – spoiler alert! – offed several of the higher profi

Mark Millar Confirms Kick-Ass 2 & American Jesus

The sequel to the critically acclaimed comic book drama Kick-Ass will be shot this summer, writer Mark Millar has revealed. Millar, who penned the comic books from which Kick-Ass and its sequel are adapted, has told the Daily Record that both the second Kick Ass film and his new project American Jesus will be shot this summer, telling the paper: "We shoot Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus this summer". There had been some doubt as to whether a second Kick-Ass film would happen at all after both writer Jane Goldman and director Matthew Vaughn ruled themselves out of the project. However, it appears a new writer and director have been found for the project. Millar also spoke about his new project American Jesus, which he has described as "the reverse of the Omen". That will also be shot this summer. Millar said of this: "It is the reverse of the Omen, which is about a kid who finds out he is the anti-Christ. This is a kid who finds out he is Jesus Chr

Because we have an exclusive sneak peek at "Kick-Ass 2" (the comic), courtesy of Millar's new monthly magazine debuting this week, “ CLiNT .” “ Kick-Ass 2 ” follows immediately after ‘ Kick-Ass ,’”  “You see how Dave has inspired people to become amateur superheroes, Red Mist has inspired people in the sequel to become amateur supervillains. So what we have is two rival gangs of super characters getting together in New York.” And what about the sequel to the mega-successful film adaptation of the comic starring Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz ? Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall Plot Details

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall Plot Details Kick-Ass is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray on August 3rd.  Mark Millar stopped by movieweb for a chat. While discussing the film, he told us in detail where Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is headed. Spoiler Alert: Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall begins with Hit Girl living with her newly adoptive father, who used to be Big Daddy's ex-partner on the police force. She has retired her guns and is no longer killing people. Meanwhile, Red Mist has hired a Russian Assassin to murder Hit Girl, while also assembling a group of super villains on-line who decide to hunt Kick-Ass down in a storyline that is similar to the one seen in The Warriors, which climaxes with a huge rumble in Times Square, where costumed heroes battle costumed villains to the death. Here is our conversation: There has been a lot of talk about Kick-Ass 2 . What is happening with that? And where would you like to see it go? Mark Millar: I am writing the comic book right now

Kick-Ass 2 "Balls To The Wall" In 2012?

Kick-Ass 2 "Balls To The Wall" In 2012? Looks like me might be getting a sequel to Kick-Ass. After a very disappointing performance at the box office so far. ($40 Million so far and the film cost 30 million to make) Has the movie warranted a sequel? I say HELL yes! Mark talked to Forces of Geek in which he was promoting his new UK Geek Magazine CLiNT. Here is a little description he gives on the magazine: I’ve worked on everything from Spider-Man comics to the Iron Man movie for Marvel in New York, but what really excites me is the gap I see in the UK market at the moment. There are absolutely no comic-books aimed at 16-30 year old guys and I think CLiNT has potential to make an enormous impact, bringing a new type of magazine to a new generation. I want this to be edgy and irreverent, the kind of thing guys will be passing around lunch-halls and common rooms, and there’s nobody I’d rather have creating new characters for CLiNT than Jonathan and Frankie. They’re both

Kick-Ass Movie Review By: Sandwichjohn

Kick-Ass Movie Review By: Sandwichjohn Sorry Late but you know the real world doesn't always leave a lot of time for sitting down to write a review. Kick Ass unfortunately didn't kick ass in the box office but we here at Sandwichjohnfilms definitely thought it kicked bottom, as my 4 year old says. We were very excited for this movie every since we show the first clips which were released, then more so after watching the panel at WonderCon and we were not disappointed. Kick Ass stars Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski, an average high school kid that decides to become a super hero. He hits a few road blocks along the way but becomes a You Tube hit as the super hero Kick Ass. Kick Ass also stars Nicholas Cage as Damon Macready, a former cop who was framed by the local crime boss Frank D'Amico and spent time in prison. Upon his release he trains his 11 year daughter Mindy (Chloë Moretz) to help him fight crime in his quest to bring down D'Amico. Together they form the

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon"

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon" As of Sunday night I was pretty nervous that Kick-Ass lost the number one spot to "How to Train Your Dragon".  It looks like it was a close race but Kick-Ass ended up on top.  Not taking anything away from Dragon, which was a great film. If you haven't seen the movie you need to make a trip out to the theaters and spread the word. I am really hoping that word of mouth about this film will give this movie legs with all the new films coming out. Despite preliminary reports, "Kick-Ass" took home the top spot at the domestic box office. Grossing $19.8 million, Lionsgate's superhero action pic edged DreamWorks Animation's 3D kid pic, "How to Train Your Dragon" ($19.6 million) in a closely contested race. Big Daddy Kicks-Ass In This Trailer And Wonder Con Exclusive

Big Daddy Kicks-Ass In This Trailer And Wonder Con Exclusive Man I can not stop watching this trailer, I thought to myself for a minute.  Who in the heck needs Batman when you have Big Daddy. Big Daddy is the center of this clip, showing what a bad ass he is and how he completely destroys the whole warehouse without a blink of an eye. Big Daddy, a former cop who, in his quest to bring down an evil druglord Frank D'Amico played by Mark Strong, has trained his eleven-year-old daughter to be the ruthless vigilante Hit-Girl. But the con-exclusive poster for Big Daddy, with its slogan of "He's Watching You," is pretty creepy, and calls out for a "Ceiling Cat"-style meme. Yeah, that's right, Nicolas Cage is watching you, um, doing whatever you're doing. And he'll be available to sign the poster on Saturday. Another thing if you are making your way out to Wonder Con this weekend make sure to come and join me at 4:30 for the Kick-Ass panel i

Mark Millar Talks Wanted 2 And Replacing Angelina Jolie

Mark Millar Talks Wanted 2 And Replacing Angelina Jolie MTV spoke to "Wanted" co-creator Mark Miller at the South By Southwest Film Festival and got some insight to an "Wanted 2" film. One thing we found out that if the film is made Angelina Jolie will not be in the film and its fraternity of assassins will move forward without her. "They killed off the most recognizable character, but I thought it was great to do that," Millar told MTV News. "It was so ballsy to kill off the one person you didn't expect to die." "What they're talking about is just moving on with the story and doing it properly," he said. "Just bringing in another cool character as this world opens up with all the different fraternities out there all across the world. This could change at any moment, but the last I heard two weeks ago, was that was the plan moving forward." With the first film diverging significantly from Millar's sour
