Luke Cage Not Returning For A Third Season

Netflix has canceled “ Luke Cage. ” News of the cancellation comes four months after the superhero action drama from Marvel Television debuted its second season on the streaming service — and just days after Netflix pulled the plug on another Marvel show, “ Iron Fist" “Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series,” Netflix and Marvel Television said in a joint statement. A source tells Variety that talks for a third season had taken place, but that Netflix ultimately decided that one would not be feasible. With the move, Netflix severs further ties with Marvel as the producer prepares to shift gears toward providing content for parent company Disney’s yet to launch streaming services. Disney has already indicated that it will allow...

MONDO ANNOUNCES " MARVEL'S LUKE CAGE " SOUNDTRACK ON YELLOW VINYL Pre-order Begins on October 7th Mondo is excited to unveil the soundtrack for Marvel's Luke Cage with collectible artwork of the bulletproof hero by Matthew Woodson. Composers Adrian Younge (Something About April) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) have combined forces to produce one of the best scores of 2016 featuring an inspired, genre-bending blend of orchestral score and 90s hip-hop beats, filtered through the sonic lens of the works of Ennio Morricone. It's no surprise that the score hovers in the same terrain of the Spaghetti Western soundtracks of Morricone - the narrative of Luke Cage plays out like a modern Western, only set in Harlem. Younge and Muhammad have meticulously crafted one of the most unique sonic landscapes in the history of television. "We sought to create a score that reflects the world of Luke Cage. We see this world as a place where classic ...

TV Review: Marvel's Jessica Jones

Marvel finally does TV right. Review by Brandon Wolfe Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) doesn’t much resemble a superhero, certainly not of the variety we’re accustomed to within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which she inhabits. She doesn’t have any cool weapons. Rather than a flashy, colorful costume, her day-to-day attire consists of a black leather jacket and a pair of faded jeans. She doesn’t even have a snazzy moniker, going solely by her rather prosaic (if alliterative) name. She’s not a scientist, a billionaire, a war hero, a secret agent nor a god, but a lowly P.I., snapping candids of cheating spouses and living out of a hovel of an office. She’s a hard-drinking, hard-screwing, hard-bitten cynic, about as far from Steve Rogers as any person could get. Yet she’s also “gifted,” as are so many in the Marvel Universe. Jessica possesses superhuman strength and resilience. She can’t fly, exactly, but she can jump very high, which is the next best thing. But Jessica does not think...

Marvel/Netflix's #JessicaJones Official Trailer

After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City. It's time the world knew her name. Ritter stars as Jessica, a woman with super-strength and advanced healing powers who was once a superhero. After a traumatic experience, however, she gave that up and is now making a living as a private eye. Her cases often bring her into contact with those similarly boasting special abilities as well as the usual: cheating spouses, small crimes and missing relatives. Watch the trailer after the Jump... Overseen by Melissa Rosenberg and based on Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias comic book series, the show will also feature Rachael Taylor as Jessica’s closest friend Patricia “Trish” Walker, Mike Colter as friend and sometime love interest Luke “Power Man” Cage (who will be starring in his own series, now shooting), Carrie-Ann Moss as the enigmatic Harper and David Tenn...

Frank Whaley Cast As Detective Rafael Scarfe In Luke Cage

The cast is building quickly now for the Marvel/Netflix Luke Cage series: part of the interlocking Defenders quartet that also includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. Mike Colter is Luke Cage (AKA Power Man), with Alfre Woodward, Theo Rossi and Mahershala Ali signed up for other roles. And now there's also Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction, Under The Dome) who'll be carrying a badge as Detective Rafael Scarfe. Straight from the comics, Scarfe works for the NYPD and is a regular fixture in stories featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist/Danny Rand (his first appearance was in an Iron Fist issue, "The Name Is Warhawk", in 1975). He used to be Misty Knight's partner before she quit the force to form half of The Daughters Of The Dragon (who frequently teamed up with Cage and Rand as the Heroes For Hire). Scarfe went over to the dark side with some other corrupt cops in the Daredevil event series Shadowland. Lots of crossover potential then, with the strong lik...

Alfre Woodard Cast In Netflix's Luke Cage

Deadline is reporting Marvel’s Luke Cage may have found his match. I’ve learned that Alfre Woodard is finalizing a deal to star opposite Mike Colter in Luke Cage, the third series in Marvel’s four-series package at Netflix. Woodard will play a lead character listed on the breakdown as Minetta, a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life. She may actually be playing a version of Marvel villain Black Mariah, a nemesis to Luke Cage as well as Iron Fist. In the comics, she is a professional criminal and a drug dealer. In Luke Cage, Mike Colter, who will be first introduced in the second Marvel series for Netflix, A.K.A. Jessica Jones, plays Cage, a wrongly accused man who, granted superstrength by a sabotaged experiment, escapes prison to become a superhero for hire. Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series, produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. Oscar nominee and Emmy w...

Marvel’s Daredevil Renewed For Second Season

Marvel hero will get Round 2 on Netflix. By Brandon Wolfe After garnering many rave reviews (and some more tepid ones ) in its 11 days thus far of release, Marvel’s Daredevil has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. However, Season 2 will see a new pair of showrunners, as Doug Petrie ( Buffy the Vampire Slayer ) and Marco Ramirez ( Sons of Anarchy ) will take the reins from Steven DeKnight and Drew Goddard. No word on just when we might expect to binge Season 2, as the plan for the Neflix Marvel shows has been for A.K.A. Jessica Jones , Iron Fist and Luke Cage to follow Daredevil , leading to The Defenders , a small-screen, Avengers -style team up of all of the Marvel Netflix heroes. Given the heat on Daredevil right now, it stands to reason that Marvel might not want to wait such a long time to bring back Matt Murdock. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Luke Cage Film Getting Some Buzz

Luke Cage Film Getting Some Buzz Marvel has wanted to develop and make some lower budget movies based on 2nd and 3rd tier Marvel characters. And it looks like Luke Cage's number might get called. A reconiable Hollywood actor is currently having preliminary discussions with Marvel Studios about bringing Luke Cage to the big screen. We reported back in January about hearing some buzz that Tyrese Gibson was interested in the role? The character was created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita Sr. He first appeared in Luke Cage, Hero For Hire #1 in June of 1972. He obtained his powers in a terrible accident leaving him with near impervious skin and superhuman strength. I think Luke Cage would make for a very cool Marvel movie, and his story could be told on a decently low budget, so this is the type of film that would fit perfectly for Marvels movie plans. I would love the story to take place in the 70's instead of modernizing it. What do you all think? Here is a detailed his...

Tyrese Gibson Talks Legion and Luke Cage

Tyrese Gibson Talks Legion and Luke Cage Tyrese Gibson, talks about his latest movie “Legion.” The film, opening in theaters nationwide on Friday, is about an “out-of-the-way diner” where battle ensues for the survival of the entire race. Interested yet? God sends a “legion” of angels to bring on the Apocalypse. Tyrese plays Kyle Williams, an innocent bystander that stops for directions at the wrong time, at the wrong place. He ends up getting sucked into the madness, and ends up fighting for survival. Tyrese credits having great agents to get him the role in LEGION. “I give my team love all the time,” he said. “They keep their radars out there for projects like this. Once Paul Bettany signed on to a Sony Screen Gems project, it was like, okay, this is like the heavyweight actor that’s classically trained in all of this stuff and coming off of the Da Vinci Code, it’s like, what’s this project that Paul Bettany has signed on to. Everybody was buzzing about it and then Charles Dutton and...
