The Girl on The Train is a messy but expertly-acted thriller. Review by Matt Cummings In the world of feminist hype, men and women seem strictly divided on opposite sides of the street: men are perceived as evil, while women are silent victims doomed to never right their ship. Universal's The Girl on The Train never gets that smart, wasting a ton of good performances on gratuitous skin scenes that do nothing to further the unsatisfying and messy plot. Despite House Of Cards scoring the bigger initial buzz, Netflix’s other series launched last year, prison comedy drama Orange Is The New Black , won a lot of critical praise for its funny, touching, and progressive characters and plotlines. Orange Is The New Black adapts Piper Kerman’s memoir of her time spent in a women’s prison on drug smuggling charges. Taylor Schilling plays Piper, a character loosely based on Kerman, who reports to Litchfield prison to serve her term, worried about what she’ll encounter. Through the first season, she comes to terms with life inside, meets a variety of fellow inmates and manoeuvres their various, shifting power structures. But even as she learned more about her new world, there were still moments she felt like an outsider. Especially when her ex-girlfriend, Alex ( Laura Prepon ) showed up on the block… Orange’s cast includes
