Universal Pictures announced today that to celebrate the arrival of F9 , the newest chapter in the Fast and Furious Saga, in theaters June 25, the studio and its theater partners across the U.S. will launch a free nationwide screening series of all eight previous Fast films, beginning April 30, 2021. The eight-week program will invite fans to watch all eight previous Fast films in participating theaters, free of charge, with one film screening each Friday. The films will be screened in chronological order, beginning with 2001’s The Fast and the Furious on April 30 and culminating with 2017’s The Fate of the Furious on June 18.  The screening series will launch in more than 500 theaters across the U.S. and will ultimately expand to more than 900 theaters. Theaters that join the screening series after April 30 will begin their screenings with whichever film is already scheduled to screen in that week.   Participating theaters include AMC Theatres, Regal, Cinemark Theatres, Marcus Theatr

Fate of the Furious delivers more stunts and more action but seemingly less of everything else. Review by Matt Cummings If a film can (or even should) be measured by the amount of stunts, explosions, and cheesy dialogue it contains, Fate of the Furious would be film of the year. Luckily, we don't ascribe to such standards, as we actually like a little story with our beat downs (see John Wick: Chapter 2 . Filled with more than enough stunts, explosions, and one-note dialogue to fill its extended runtime, it also does less of everything else, spinning and careening its way to obsolescence. Variety  is reporting  Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez are starring in a remake of the romantic comedy “Overboard.” Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell , and Edward Herrmann starred in the 1987 original directed by Garry Marshall. Hawn played a selfish heiress who got amnesia when she fell off her yacht and Russell portrayed a carpenter who ultimately fell in love with her. The remake will be co-directed and written by Rob Greenberg (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Bob Fisher (“We’re the Millers”). Ben Odell and Derbez will produce through their 3Pas Studios. MGM partnered with Pantelion Films to co-produce, co-finance, and co-distribute the film, with Lionsgate handling domestic theatrical distribution. Production stars this May in Vancouver. Review by Matt Cummings If Director Peter Berg's survival flick Deepwater Horizon proves anything, it's that good and decent people are usually made to suffer the will of more powerful ones, irregardless of the dangers or the facts. That's at least what Berg wants you to think, and he makes a convincing case between the concerned workers (including Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell) and those at BP (John Malkovich) who are determined to pump at this submersible offshore drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
