Universal Pictures has announced that F9 will be released on digital starting on September 7, 2021, and it will arrive on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD a couple weeks later on September 21, 2021. On top of the original theatrical cut from earlier this year, the F9 home video release will also have an extended director’s cut. However, it’s not clear how much longer this cut will be than the director’s cut.  The existence of a director’s cut is rather surprising since filmmaker Justin Lin never really mentioned any drastic changes to what ended up in theaters. So maybe it’s just a marketing ploy to help make up for the box office revenues lost due to the coronavirus pandemic. Perhaps there were a handful of deleted scenes that could easily be added back into the movie, but they don’t exactly change the overall cut of the film very much. Knight Rider holds a special place in the heart of those of us who grew up in the 1980s. It may not exactly have dated well, but we still love it. Now director Justin Lin , a man who has apparently not met a car-centric franchise he doesn't want to turbo boost, is on board to produce a digital revival for the Warner Bros. owned Machinma channel. Nothing has been announced about the series yet, so we don't know if it'll be a new live-action take or an animated version that could potentially allow original star David Hasselhoff to return to the role that helped kickstart his career, Michael Knight. But it'll be a new take on the story of a former cop left for dead who is recruited by a wealthy man looking to fight crime on his own terms. Given a new face and a fancy, dry-witted talking car, Knight becomes a smooth-talking do-gooder with a penchant for leather jackets and perms. According to THR Justin Lin is revving up Hot Wheels . The Star Trek Beyond filmmaker has closed a deal to develop, direct and produce, via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, a feature based on popular car toyline from Mattel. Lin and Perfect Storm will also have an option to co-finance the project. A Hot Wheels movie has been made, despite iterations being in development since 2003. McG was at one point attached to direct and produce for Columbia before it landed in the garage of Joel Silver and Warners. Legendary picked up the rights in earlier this decade. Simon Crane came on board to direct it in 2013 but the project has been sitting idle since 2014. Lin’s boarding injects some nitrous oxide into the project; Lin, his partner Troy Craig Poon, and Legendary will begin a search for a writer to take Hot Wheels back to the starting line. Bruce Lee is kicking his way back from the grave. Like many other creative people who pass away before their time, the late Lee left behind a number of unfinished projects. In this case the subject is Warrior, the pilot for a new Cinemax television series that's being developed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, Star Trek Beyond) and Banshee co-creator Jonathan Tropper. The proposed crime drama is based on Lee's handwritten notes discovered by his daughter, Shannon, who will serve as a producer as part of Bruce Lee Entertainment. THR is reporting Justin Lin , Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are ready to shoot some intergalactic hoops with LeBron James . The Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond helmer is co-writing with Dodge and Botello the Warner Bros.' sequel Space Jam 2. Lin is also eyeing to direct and produce via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, and sources say he will be thoroughly involved in the creative development of the project. The third installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise boldly heads into production this week in Vancouver, and its cast is getting a big pay raise. At the same time, the studio behind Star Trek Beyond quietly has locked up two key players for a potential fourth installment. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount and producer-financier Skydance Entertainment recently completed last-minute renegotiations with the Star Trek stars, a move that has added as much as $10 million to $15 million to the budget. After a sharp turn as the sexy blade-legged assassin in the Matthew Vaughn -directed hit Kingsman: The Secret Service , Sofia Boutella has been set for a lead role in Star Trek 3 . Which Justin Lin is directing from a script by cast member Simon Pegg and Doug Jung (creator of the TNT series Dark Blue). Might the Wire star be playing a Klingon? By Brandon Wolfe Variety has reported that Idris Elba has entered into talks to play the primary villain in the third Star Trek film. The nature of Elba’s role has not been revealed, but rumors have persisted that the Klingons will be the villainous focus of the new film. Trek Sequel Beams Up New Writer In the bid to get the next Star Trek sequel out in time for the franchise’s 50th anniversary in 2016 after Robert Orci’s demotion from the project, Paramount has enlisted Simon Pegg, Scotty himself, to co-write a draft at warp speed so that production can proceed at full impulse power. According to a report from Deadline , Pegg will be working with Doug Jung, who created the TNT series Dark Blue and has worked with Bad Robot Productions previously on a film titled Diamond . The storyline has not yet been revealed, but Fast and Furious director Justin Lin recently took over for Orci in the big chair. Pegg is an exciting choice to liven up Star Trek , having previously co-written the Edgar Wright-directed Cornetto Trilogy ( Shaun of the Dead , Hot Fuzz and The World’s End ) with Nick Frost.
