BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Adi Shankar's "In Service of Nothing" Bootleg PreViz

Adi Shankar releases another short film, this time starring James Bond. Story by Matt Cummings With SPECTRE releasing a character poster this week of a turtlenecked Daniel Craig, it actually wasn't the only piece of Bond-related news of note. Dredd producer Adi Shankar premiered another in his 'bootleg' short film series, which includes the ultra-violent (and ultra-awesome) Power/Rangers short . It was notorious booted off the web due to copyright issues, but soon found its way back, making an instant hit with over 13 million views. This time, he's tackled none other than James Bond in a 16-minute PreViz feature titled In Service of Nothing , directed by Tyler Gibb and produced by Shankar. From the way Gibb and Shankar portray Sean Connery (voiced by Christopher Gee), it's definitely reminiscent of a 60's Goldfinger style, that is until we fast-forward to an aged Bond reflected on his "past transgressions." Here, Bond is a man wi...

Can #Therock Save #DREDD? Adi Shankar Breaks Down How A Movie Is Made.

Trying to figure out how to get your movie made? Well, just pull up a chair and watch the above video, in which Adi Shankar — the wunderkind producer behind that recent (and very controversial) Power/Rangers video — provides a gritty explanation of the world of independent film financing. Shankar was just 26 when he had his first breakthrough hit with 2011’s Liam Neeson-versus-wolves movie The Grey . But what gives him even more nerd street-cred is his role as the executive producer of 2012’s Dredd, the big screen reboot of Judge Dredd , the Sylvester Stallone-as-futuristic-cop flick from 1995. Dredd was a major bomb at the box office, making only $35 million worldwide. But it has since become a cult hit amongst the Reddit crowd, who are clamoring for a sequel. Taking advantage of his recent spate of press attention, Shankar — who dresses like he lives inside his own The Crow fan film — recorded a video inside his poorly lit office to explain why a follow-up to the Karl Urban-s...

Judge Dredd Web Series Is On It's Way

The campaign for a sequel to 2012’s Dredd has been long and loud, but has yet to quite crack open studio coffers for a second film featuring Karl Urban as the titular lawman. So producer Adi Shankar has decided to take matters into his own, unofficial hands, and cook up a web series about the Dark Judges . Though it won’t be a direct sequel to the movie, it should help tamp down withdrawal symptoms for a short while. Little is known about exactly what the series will entail, other than it’ll feature Judge Death and his terrifying accomplices from a parallel dimension, who have determined that all life is a crime and the punishment is a variety of torments and murder. According to The Wrap, the web miniseries will hit the web later this month for free. This isn’t the first time Shankar has turned to what is quickly becoming his Bootleg Universe to release more stories featuring characters he likes: he produced the short Punisher: Dirty Laundry in 2012 and another focused on ...

Next DREDD Film Could Be A Prequel According To Karl Urban

2012's Dredd was warmly received, but sadly its vocal audience of supporters wasn't large enough to translate into a box office hit. Online fan campaigns have since been clamouring for a sequel, and Dredd himself, Karl Urban , remains the project's biggest cheerleader. Back in February he reported to a convention audience that "conversations" had been happening. Now he's told Chicago Comic-Con that it's "a definite possibility" but that we're now talking about a prequel. "It's more likely that we'll do the Origins story, with Dredd trekking through the Cursed Earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo," he says. Origins is 23 instalments from the mid-2000s, going into the back-story business of how the Judges came to be in the first place. It's also, as Urban says, about Dredd heading out beyond the walls of Mega City One to retrieve Fargo's stasis pod from the New Mutant Army. And there's some stuff in ther...

Dredd 2 Video Update From Karl Urban

Urban says Filmmakers Working "Very, Very Hard" to Make it Happen.  Story By: Matt Cummings The ultimate in comic book distopia - Dredd 3D - didn't exactly knock it out of the park when it premiered in 2012. It grossed far below its $50 million budget, and fans worried that the franchise would suffer another long sleep before being recast. Fortunately, people still buy DVD's, and the film became an instant hit, achieving a sort of cult status with fans and newcomers (yours truly included). Luckily, its performance in the home market - coupled with a great petition campaign - renewed hope that a sequel might be in the works. And while that progress appears to be slow, Dredd star Karl Urban has released a video that tells a lot about where the project is headed. As you can see above, Urban continues to believe that a sequel will happen. The key phrase to remember here is that screenwriter Alex Garland is working "very, very hard" to m...

DREDD 3D Review. How Does It Compare To Original?

DREDD 3D Review  By: RAMA So how does this film compare to the original? RAMA is here to let us know. We need to thank scribe Alex Garland and director Peter Travis for making a badass DREDD movie that would erase those cheesy Sly Stallone Dredd moments from our memory forever. DREDD 3D is hardcore, visceral, and no-holds barred. With stunning slo-mo sequences and stylish ultra-realistic 3D, the violence becomes something that’s irresistible. The level of fun that DREDD 3D offers is kind of like Punisher: War Zone, and by that I mean, this movie does its job, serves its purposes and satisfied R-rated action fans everywhere… The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Know...

Karl Urban First Look As Judge Dredd

First Look At Judge Dredd Good Friday to everyone. We get our first look at Karl Urban (Star Trek, Red) as Judge Dredd . From what you can see from the picture it stays true to the comic book, from the first look at the costume we are miles ahead of how Stallone looked. The picture was posted on a Twitter account for Jock who is the concept artist working on the film, let's hope he doesn't lose his job for this. "There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously. We’ve cast a guy called Karl Urban to play Dredd. We’ll be shooting in Johannesburg, it’s being directed by Pete Travis, we’re shooting with the people who did District 9 – and if we get it right, Alex has a couple of ideas for other stories as well. It’s not based on any one comic, and John Wagner is involved in every decision."  View the picture after the Jump.. Please Leave A Comment- Source- @jock4twenty

Karl Urban Confirmed For Judge Dredd Reboot

Karl Urban Confirmed For Judge Dredd Reboot Karl Urban has been confirmed for the leading role in Judge Dredd by producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of the new film. Urban had been rumoured for the role already, but in a Movie-Con Q&A this evening the pair confirmed that he has been cast for the film, shooting in South Africa soon. “The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago," said Macdonald. "Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real." "There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously.
