Brad Peyton , who helmed the global hit Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , has just been set by Warner Bros to rewrite and direct Lobo , the live-action film based on the DC Comics franchise. Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are producing. Lobo is an alien that works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Introduced as a hardened, rarely used hard-boiled villain in the 1980s, the character remained in limbo until his revival as an anti-hero biker in the early 1990s, when he became on of the most popular characters in the DC Comics stable. We all know Dwayne Johnson keeps himself in shape. And that before every movie (yes, even Race To Witch Mountain), he tailors his workout regime to fit his latest gig. Currently he’s busy getting in bodybuilder shape (not much of a struggle, frankly) for Michael Bay’s Pain And Gain , but he may already be looking ahead to playing a Greek hero in Brett Ratner’s Hercules . The iconic muscled one has been something of an obsession of Ratner's for a while now. He considered one take on Hercules for a while (though it was later revealed he only read the script), but last year became attached to the adaptation of Steve Moore’s Radical Publishing comic title Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Moore’s story finds the Thracian king summon Herc and six battle-weary pals of his, and tasking them with getting his army into fighting shape. Vanessa Hudgens To Have A Journey On A Mysterious Island Vanessa Hudgens is in final negotiations to play the female lead in New Line’s “ Journey 2: The Mysterious Island ,” the sequel to “ Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D .” Brad Peyton is on board to direct the film, in which Josh Hutcherson is reprising his role as burgeoning explorer Sean Anderson. Dwayne Johnson is also starring in the pic being produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm. The story sees Hutcherson and Johnson forced to go a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather. The script is loosely based on Jules Verne's "The Mysterious Island." Dwayne Johnson Set To Take A Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Dwayne Johnson is strapping on a backpack for New Line's " Journey 2: The Mysterious Island ," the sequel to " Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D ." Brad Peyton is on board to direct the film, in which Josh Hutcherson will reprise his role as burgeoning explorer Sean Anderson. Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm are producing. Brendan Fraser was the top draw in the 2008 movie but is not returning after hitting an impasse over start dates. That put New Line on track to find a new star, with the studio and Johnson dancing for several weeks before getting into it. Johnson is in negotiations, with a deal expected to close this week.
