Simon Kinberg Wants A #FantasticFour Sequel

Of all the movies released this summer, we’re fairly certain the one no one is expecting to generate a sequel is 20th Century Fox’s latest attempt to bring the Fantastic Four to screens. But writer/producer Simon Kinberg is keeping the idea of a new film alive. “I’m really focused on the next one,” Kinberg tells MTV , while conceding that he wasn’t thrilled with the way the first one was received. “I was obviously disappointed. I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.” And, according to him, it wasn’t for want of trying. “Every time you make a movie, you want to make a great movie. It’s a ton of time and effort you put in. We made that movie in the sweltering heat of summer in Baton Rouge and I was there every day of photography. It was an opportunity to do that. I do believe there is a great Fantastic Four movie to be made with th...

Summer 2015 Movie Flops

Here are the movies that got the worst sunburn according to THR . Summer 2015 is expected to go down as one of the biggest in history in terms of overall revenue, but there were a number of high-profile bombs that have left some Hollywood studios smarting. Big stars that got dinged include George Clooney (Tomorrowland), Adam Sandler (Pixels) and Bradley Cooper (Aloha). Directors that took it on the chin were Brad Bird (Tomorrowland), Josh Trank ( Fantastic Four ), Cameron Crowe (Aloha) and Guy Ritchie (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) Here are five big bombs of the season when accounting for budget, marketing spend and revenue the film can expect to earn in ancillary markets. Grosses are through Sept. 4, with several titles still in release worldwide. Tomorrowland (Disney, May 22) Budget: $190 million Global gross: $208.4 million Expected loss: $120 million-$150 million Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion) and Pixar's Inside Out ($703 million), which is s...

Movie Review: American Ultra

Bourne comedy riff lacks identity and supremacy. Review by Brandon Wolfe The line on Jesse Eisenberg at the outset of his career was that he was a clone of Michael Cera, specializing in the sort of sensitive, boy-man roles that Cera had cornered the market on throughout the Aughts. 2009’s Adventureland and Zombieland were the chief catalysts in this conception, and indeed, Eisenberg does channel Cera’s unique blend of sweet-natured anxiousness in those films. But Eisenberg wasted little time casting off that persona, overwriting it entirely with his bravura performance in 2010’s The Social Network . From that point on, Eisenberg came to be defined by his sneering petulance and sense of entitlement. He was the cold, calculating genius who not only wanted to defeat you, but to force you to acknowledge his superiority. He was heralded as a unlikely choice to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman v. Superman , but he’s actually a better fit for the role than many seem willing to con...

Movie Review: #TheFantasticFour

After a promising start, The Fantastic Four descends into the rumored trainwreck. Review by Matt Cummings If the recent history of comic book movies has been one of glory, that success was built upon a myriad of high profile failures, none more so than first two Fantastic Four films, which premiered in 2005 and 2007. For fans hungry to forget those disasters, the newest incarnation will do nothing to fulfill that desire. Not a total embarrassment but far from a success, The Fantastic Four is the trainwreck we all feared. When the brilliant scientist Reed Richards (Miles Teller) and his childhood friend Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell) concoct a rudimentary dimensional transportation device, Reed is recruited by the Baxter Institute to complete their parallel research. Along the way, he enlists the help of the tempestuous engineer Johnny Storm (Michael B Jordan), his adopted genius sister Sue (Kate Mara), and the troubled Victor Von Doom (Tony Kebbell), who harbors a secret des...

Josh Trank: "You'll Never See My Movie"

The embattled director claims Fox altered his film as its release approaches. Story by Matt Cummings Let the Fantastic Four blame game begin. On the eve of its release, Director Josh Trank set the Internet ablaze on Thursday when he Tweeted - and then deleted - the following about his film: And Josh Trank deleted his tweet. Good news, I still have it. The oral history lives: pic.twitter.com/AnZQ6ilM9r — Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) August 7, 2015 The Tweet was soon removed by Trank, but not before Uproxx's Mike Ryan captured it. The event is another indication that things on the FF set were exactly what we reported, as the film has endured all kinds of problems. It started when the cast was announced, featuring a black Johnny Storm, an adopted Sue Storm, and a lead in Miles Teller, who's known mostly for his comedy. Then news arose of Trank's erratic behavior on set and claims that his pets trashed the rental home he was using during the shoot. That claim was ...

#FantasticFour Comic Con Highlights

Ignore all those rumors about Chronicle veteran Josh Trank not getting on with the Fantastic Four team: he was on fine form in the film's Comic-Con panel, sporting a Nintendo controller cap as he sat next to co-writer / producer Simon Kinberg and their cast, Miles Teller (Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm / Human Torch), Kate Mara (Susan Storm / Invisible Woman), Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm / The Thing) and Toby Kebbell (Victor Domashev / Doctor Doom). “I’ve loved The Fantastic Four since I was a kid,” said Trank, who likened the film to a “prequel” to the established Fantastic Four team, best known for their all-blue skintight suits and big "4"s on their chests. “After we made Chronicle, I wanted to tackle the same subject again in a different way. I wanted to explore a side of these characters we haven’t seen before.” And that vision? “A more grounded, dramatic, character-driven story,” writer Simon Kinberg continued. “More science th...

Josh Trank Defends 'Star Wars' Exit

The Chronicle director speaks out on the "toughest decision" of his career. Story by Matt Cummings When news hit on May 1st that Chronicle director Josh Trank was departing the Star Wars universe , it hit fans like a lightsaber through the gut. But speculation about his future emerged earlier at Star Wars Celebration , when he failed to appear, waving flu-like symptoms. His colleague Gareth Edwards did attend, showing off a concept trailer for his film Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One . As news began to swirl about Trank's misfortunes on the set of Fantastic Four - in which his behavior was characterized as "erratic" and Producer Simon Kinberg was brought in to finish the project - fans knew the real story: Trank hadn't merely walked away, he had been fired. Trank was recently interviewed by the LA Times - the first since his departure - shedding a new perspective on the backlash he received from fans and (perhaps) the real reason why he left. ...

Josh Trank Leaves 'Star Wars' Spinoff

Fan speculation about his 'Celebration' absence proves correct. Story Matt Cummings Just one year after he was announced to direct an as-of-yet Star Wars spinoff movie (the first belonging to Gareth Edwards' Rogue One ), Director Josh Trank ( Chronicle and Fantastic Four reboot) has departed the project. The announcement was made on Friday by Trank, who had this to say: "After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lu...

'Fantastic Four' Trailer #2 & New Poster Debuts

The second trailer from Fox reveals a lighter tone, until... Story by Matt Cummings 20th Century Fox hit box office gold in 2014 with X-Men: Days of Future Past , a film that partially reset that troubled franchise, bringing both a solid story and excellent performances to the time-traveling epic. With Marvel Studios preparing to release Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st and Ant-man in July, it was clear that another superhero film was getting virtually ignored: Fox's Fantastic Four. Maligned for years and seemingly stuck in development Hell for just as long, it had become a joke to many who rgearded any potential as fleeting. That was until 2 months ago, when a dark and brooding teaser showed up in January to good reviews . But, fans weren't entirely sold. Was there an actual story to the imagery, and what about the arrival of Villain #1 Victor von Doom, who was re-imagined by Fox into an angry tech blogger? And while only half of these questions were an...

Fantastic Four Reboot Teaser Debuts

The Four are back and fun-time's over. By Brandon Wolfe The first teaser for the hotly unanticipated reboot of Fantastic Four has debuted. The tone at play here is dark and deadly serious, a stark contrast to the bright-colored and comical tone of the Tim Story film from a decade ago. While that is an understandable course-correction, given how loathed that film is, this tonal shift also runs counter to the playful tone of the comic itself, taking the Nolanesque “dark and gritty” approach that studios still seem to gravitate toward even as Marvel continually proves that audiences are OK with fun in their superhero adventures nowadays. At any rate, there’s not much to see here just yet, other than a declaration that this isn’t your slightly older brother’s Fantastic Four. Fantastic Four (Take 2) opens August 7 and is directed by Chronicle ’s Josh Trank. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE FANTASTIC (?) TEASER Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot In Trouble?

Looks like the trailer for  THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be attached to the upcoming release for   KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE . But it looks like there might be some issues with the film. Rumor has it that Trank has made this film more like ‘ Chronicle 2 ′ rather than ‘ The Fantastic Four ’ reboot which is what the studio wanted. Latinoreview  has heard production might go into reshoots in Louisiana. But THE FANTASTIC FOUR screenwriter/Producer Simon Kinberg came straight to Latinoreview and cleared things up confirming the reshoot but he’s confident about the film. To confirm – Fantastic Four will be doing 3-4 days of additional photography with director Josh Trank and some key cast members. We are very excited about the film and can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to. And you will be able to do that very soon as I can confirm here that the teaser will be on Kingsman in theaters February 13. THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’...

Was George Lucas Working on Episode VII Before the Disney Deal?

We pontificate on how such a plan might have been received by fans. Story by Matt Cummings It's not too often these days that people can agree on something. This happened long ago and too far away when Director George Lucas' Star Wars prequel Episode I: The Phantom Menace and its follow ups. After what was the most successful and perhaps best trilogy to that time, the disappointment at several aspects of Menace was abrupt and severe, leaving fans to ponder a world without Star Wars in it. Then, something magical happened: Disney purchased it in 2012 for $2 billion, while at the same time setting dates for Episode VII: The Force Awakens , as well as a series of origin/spin-offs by directors John Trank ( Chronicle ) and Gareth Edwards ( Godzilla ). In one fell swoop, a beloved franchise had returned and its leader - and perhaps destroyer - was whisked away to seeming retirement. Then came news today that gave the entire Internet a temporary shudder: Lucas was pl...

Fantastic Four Reboot Details On Johnny Storm & Sue Storm

One of the most interesting films set to come out next year is the new Fantastic Four reboot with Josh Trank directing and a main cast filled with some of the better up and coming actors working today. There isn’t really a lot known about the film yet, with only rumors and some set photos leaking online the past few months and Trank making a few statements about the tone the film will have. I’m really excited for it honestly, and with the talent involved, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being one of the best and most interesting superhero films we end up getting. Schmoes Know got our hands on some new interesting plot details for the film from a very reliable source! First, remember all of the controversy that happened when Michael B. Jordan was announced to be cast as Johnny Storm in the film? For those of you that don’t know, in the comic books Johnny Storm and Sue Storm are brother and sister, and since Sue Storm is being played by Kate Mara in the film, people w...

Dr. Doom Leaked Photos From Fantastic Four

Here are two leaked photos from the set ‘ Fantastic Four ’. The photos feature Doctor Doom . Can anyone guess what is in the top right corner of the second picture? Human Torch? Josh Trank is directing the movie, which once again focuses on the Marvel Comics quartet of scientist-adventurers Reed Richards ( Miles Teller ), aka Mr. Fantastic; his best friend Ben Grimm ( Jamie Bell ), aka The Thing; his girlfriend Sue Storm ( Kate Mara ), aka The Invisible Woman; and her brother, Johnny ( Michael B. Jordan ), aka The Human Torch. Please Leave A Comment-
