X-Men spin-off, New Mutants Is Gaining Steam

It may come as a shock to many, but there are still some mutants that have not yet made it to the big screen: Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod’s X-Men spin-off, New Mutants , being one of them. The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone has been on board to helm New Mutants for a while, and has now brought some more Faults alumni into the X-world. Its screenwriting team Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber will be penning 20th Century Fox’s upcoming super-spin-off about the young bunch of ragtag mutants trained by (at different points over the comic's 1983-1991 run) Cable, Magneto and Professor X. Neustadter and Weber are an inspired choice for the material, having connected with many a young cinemagoer thanks to their work on (500) Days Of Summer, Paper Towns and The Spectacular Now . They also have the upcoming James Franco-directed The Masterpiece on their slate: a behind-the-scenes look at Tommy Wiseau’s cult classic, The Room. Simon Kinberg is back on producing duties, b...

Stephen King's The Stand To Become Miniseries and Feature Film

Eight episodes and a movie. By Brandon Wolfe While the film version of Stephen King’s It may have recently fallen apart, the adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic magnum opus The Stand is still going strong. The Fault in Our Stars ’ Josh Boone is still set to direct the adaptation, which he has said in the past he wanted to make into several films to do proper justice to the unusually lengthy novel. However, the plan has changed, as it has now been reported that The Stand will be adapted into an eight-episode miniseries for Showtime, which will then culminate in a theatrical film. Stephen King fans might feel a sense of déjà vu here, as this was initially the plan for the proposed adaptation of the author’s Dark Tower series before that project fell apart. It is certainly an ambitious plan, since it requires a lot of extracurricular work from moviegoers, many of whom might not even have Showtime (presumably, the film itself will function as a stand-alone so as not to alienat...

Josh Boone Will Direct & Write The New Mutants

EW is reporting that The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone will co-write and direct The New Mutants , an expansion of the X-Men universe for Fox. Boone, a longtime comic-book fan, pitched the film along with a new comic-book for the series, and sources familiar with the project say the film will be based on the 1980s run of the Marvel comic, and that tonally it will be—”John Hughes meets Stephen King”—leaning towards horror and the supernatural. Knate Gwaltney will co-write the script. Producer Simon Kinberg told Deadline, which broke the story, “We’re so excited to explore this part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.” Please Leave A Comment-
